June 11[edit]

Use of VPN[edit]

So I created an account while using VPN. Not a big deal. I provided my U.S. university email Later I am informed a proxy IP address is forbidden. OK, I'll redo this later, when

my VPN is off.

So now my chosen username is blacklisted and am blocked from using it. Feels like I am being punished. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2606:6000:FD09:6400:7545:16D7:157F:8C6F (talk) 00:06, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Have you figured out a new username to use instead? Orville1974 (talk) 02:15, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
What is the username you want? PrimeHunter (talk) 08:18, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I would prefer to use the original name "Borg Master". Is that possible?

Possible misquotation[edit]

Fixed On the page "Spanish conquest of Peru", in the "In fiction" section, a quotation from Matthew Reilly's novel Temple is given, but Amazon.com's Look Inside feature indicates that no such quote exists. I posted this on the talk page in February, but no one has yet responded to it there, so could somebody here please tell me what to do about it?--Thylacine24 (talk) 01:25, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Thylacine24: You've found some really old vandalism. It's fixed now. Orville1974 (talk) 01:47, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding to see a request.[edit]

 Done
Dear editors,

I posted a request on Shamsheer vayalil's talk page but 8 hours passed and there is no response.
Note: Editors interested in that request may see that, it is on Shamsheer vayalil's talk page.

Thankyou to all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 223.230.128.125 (talk) 02:36, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The infobox tweak has been done. Orville1974 (talk) 02:44, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

To restore the information.[edit]

 Done
On Shamsheer vayalil's wikipedia infobox there is an alma mater column. In that name of two medical colleges are given. The name of the city where these colleges were situated were indicated(in the form of appropriate link).

A editor by mistake removed the name of the cities(in the form of link) where these colleges were situated.

Note: Editors urgently restore these information.

Thankyou to all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 223.230.128.125 (talk) 03:00, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Friend, if you don't wish to make the edit yourself, you should use the article talk page instead of posting every change you want to see here. You will also need to be patient, as we are all volunteers here. 331dot (talk) 03:07, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Each college is notable and has its own Wikipedia article. Clicking on the college in the infobox brings up the Wikipedia page on the school (we call them Wikilinks). I just double-checked, and both links are functioning. The city name is usually not included when the institution is clear. Orville1974 (talk) 03:27, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK, done. Orville1974 (talk) 03:57, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why Email address is optional?[edit]

Hello everyone, Why Email address is optional when we create an account? Please explain. Thanks! --ئارام بکر (talk) 08:12, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ئارام بکر Wikipedia:Emailing users covers this to an extent. It's not mandatory, but recommended. You can however, add an email at any time in preferences. I will leave a link on your talk page regarding your username, which is against policy. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 08:19, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I replied on the user talk page, because the username is (probably not) against policy. TigraanClick here to contact me 09:55, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
We also want editors who don't want to give their email address for privacy or spam-fear reasons, or don't have an email address. We have talk pages to communicate so email is not important. PrimeHunter (talk) 08:50, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Lee Vilenski, Thank you and i replied you on my talk page. PrimeHunter and when those users who don't want to give their email address forgot them passwords, What are them doing? --ئارام بکر (talk) 09:44, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
They are out of luck. Technically, they could have used a scheme such as Template:Committed identity, but that means (1) they will need to provide information that is much more personal than an email address, (2) they will need to annoy whoever has to unlock their account (whereas the email way is automated), and (3) they need to have some technical understanding far above "provide an email address"; so it looks very unlikely. TigraanClick here to contact me 10:00, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
They have to create a new account. This is allowed by Wikipedia:Sock puppetry#Legitimate uses. It can also happen when people lose access to an old email account. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:29, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Technical issue[edit]

Hello everyone. I need some help regarding a technical issue. It is not urgent but I would be grateful if someone helps. I'd like to e-mail if one is available. Thanks in advance. Puduḫepa (talk) 10:57, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If the issue is about an article, a page or wikitext it's better to ask here or at WP:VPT and link to the problem directly. That's the easiest and recommended way for requesting help about technical issues. You should also be more specific about the kind of issue and make it clear whether this is about Wikipedia, a tool or MediaWiki itself. – Ammarpad (talk) 11:57, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Converting Redirect into Disambiguation[edit]

Can anyone help with doing this? The Arunda redirect page needs to be a disambiguation page, as it is a common spelling of Arrernte in its various forms. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 11:06, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Laterthanyouthink: You can follow this link and edit it. – Ammarpad (talk) 11:59, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, @Ammarpad:. I got there, but wasn't sure if I was able to just edit without any other complications. I'll do it tomorrow. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 12:18, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Laterthanyouthink:From a technical perspective, it's just an edit. But you should really then check each incoming link to your new dab and change each of them to point at the correct target. -Arch dude (talk) 16:30, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, @Arch dude:. Will do. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 23:52, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

updated heading title[edit]

Hi i.m trying to update a title change but it is not allowing me to. The Gaelic Grounds stadium is now called the LIT Gaelic Grounds — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aztier (talkcontribs) 11:43, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Aztier: Page titles are changed by moving the page to a new location. This is done via the 'more' tab at the top of the page. However, this will not be available to you until your account is at least 4 days old and you've made 10 or more valid edits.
The 'word' LIT you wish to add... is this a sponsor name? If so it may not be appropriate for it to be added. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Or, you can use the [ reply ] button, which automatically signs posts.) Eagleash (talk) 11:59, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It appears to be the commercial arm of the Limerick Institute of Technology. They've signed a 10 year deal with Limerick GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) who own the ground. See [1] and you'll know as much as I do. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 13:40, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It might be best to leave the article as it is (WP:COMMONNAME) and add to the lead, something along the lines of: "Also known as LIT Gaelic Grounds due to sponsorship by the Limerick Institute of Technology". (With a ref). Eagleash (talk) 15:26, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

My notifications do not work.[edit]

Helped

  • I just opened Wikipedia and my notifications are lit. I opened the first one. It was the previous one. My notifications were lit, but the notification is not there. This is not a new issue. There is a notification. I have been pinged or reverted or something.
  • Also, when I click a notification it disappears. I do not need a notification to disappear on its own judgement ever!!!!
  • Any advice? ~ R.T.G 13:00, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi RTG! It sounds buggy. You can find more information or report issues here: Help talk:Notifications. Orville1974 (talk) 14:37, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Thank you o/ ~ R.T.G 16:07, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Heterocyclic Adamantane Analogues[edit]

I was looking through wikipedia for articles about examples of adamantane-like chemical structures, trying to discover what are the structures, which ones have actually been synthesized or are commercially available, what is known about their physical properties, etc. To be a little more specific, imagine two nitrogen atoms that are sp3-hybridized with the non-bonding electron pair on each nitrogen facing away from the other nitrogen. Now take three sp3-hybridized -CH2- groups and, in each case, link one end of a given sp3-hybridized -CH2- group to one of the nitrogen atoms and the other end of that same sp3-hybridized -CH2- group to the other nitrogen. Having done this three times, the resulting molecule has the formula C3H6N2. The described structure has no double bonds in it. It is non-planar and fully three-dimensional. It is an analogue to an adamantane-like C5H8 <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adamantane>. Unfortunately, adamantane, C10H16, has a more complex chemical structure and contains five extra sp3-hybridized -CH2- groups, in comparison with C5H8. But C5H8 is clearly one of the simplest of the "diamondoid hydrocarbons" <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamondoid>. And C2H2O3 is another heterocyclic adamantane-like analogue to C5H8, C4H6O, C4H7N, C3H4O2, and C3H6N2. These heterocyclic structures are all members of a more complex family of compounds - these all have five centers of sp3-hybridization - but there also must be C9H14O, C8H12O2, C7H10O3, C6H8O3, . . ., which are a little more closely analogous to adamantane, C10H16. And adamantane is only one of a huge family of "diamondoid hydrocarbons", each one of which must have a number of heterocyclic analogues. So, what specifically are they, which ones have actually been synthesized or are commercially available, what is known about their physical properties, etc. ColgatorBob (talk) 14:36, 11 June 2019 (UTC)ColgatorBob[reply]

Hi @ColgatorBob: You may have more success asking this question on Talk:Diamondoid and/or Talk:Adamantane, (you can also find the talk pages by clicking the talk tab near the top of any article) as the question is highly specific to those topics. Orville1974 (talk) 14:42, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@ColgatorBob: You appear to be knowledgable in the field, and you seem to say that the information in these articles is incomplete and/or incorrect. I'm guessing that you have reliable sources (e.g., textbooks) that support you. Please edit the articles to make them more correct or complete, citing your sources. If you are not comfortable with editing the articles directly, then suggest and/or discuss improvements to the articles on their respective talk pages. And thanks! we need all the expert help we can get -Arch dude (talk) 16:24, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Image not updating[edit]

Helped
I have tried uploading a new version of File:BKash Limited logo.png, but the image is not showing on PCs, though it is fine on phones. Aditya(talkcontribs) 18:16, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Aditya Kabir, it works for me (using Firefox 60.7.0esr on Debian 9). What browser/OS are you using, and what specifically do you see (nothing, or some error)? Eman235/talk 19:09, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It also appears to work in Firefox 67, Chrome 74, and IE11 on Windows 7. Eman235/talk 19:27, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Aditya Kabir: Have you tried purging the cache WP:REFRESH? Orville1974 (talk) 20:57, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Refresh worked like a charm. :D Aditya(talkcontribs) 02:49, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad it worked for you. Orville1974 (talk) 03:00, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
