Discontentment[edit]

I would like to reduce the level of the first TOC in List of television evangelists so that the letter subsections aren't displayed. However, the second (compact) TOC makes this difficult. Can this be done? Clarityfiend (talk) 05:28, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

For one, you have as the publisher "Report of the Council - Volume 72 - Page 25books.google.com.au › books Leeds Philosophical and Literary Society"; simply edit this so that it says what you want it to say. In order to fix "Check date values in: |date=", simply change the shouty "AUTUMN" to civilized "Autumn". Page Previews[edit]

Hi,

for a personal project, I'm using the (dutch) Wikipedia-page of Belgian Beers (https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lijst_van_Belgische_bieren)

With copy-paste I could copy all the beers to an Excel-file. So far so good.

But I also want - in that Excel-file - a column with the URL of the image as seen with PagePreview when hoovering the name of the beer.

Where can I find this information?

It's a worthy objective, which I will gladly help you with. It won't help with contributing to Wikipedia, but this Help Desk is about "how to use or edit" Wikipedia, so I'll answer here.

When I hover (not "hoover") over those beer names, I don't see any images. That's because the articles that those names link to don't contain any images.

If I wanted to do this myself, I would write a Perl script to grab the wikisource of the page, parse it for the name and wikilink of each beer, grab the wikisource of each linked page, and parse that for the first image URL. That is not how Wikipedia itself provides the hover images, but is likely to give the same results. The script would, for each beer, output a line with the beer name, a separator (a tab would do), and a URL – I assume you could input such a file to Excel. Adding Userbox from another Project[edit]

What do I need to do to place this userbox from meta-wikimedia.org on my User Talk page? At the moment, I've simply pasted in the entire code, but would prefer it to be more elegant, with just one line and a properly functioning cross-wiki link. Italic script for species[edit]

RE https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trichomonas_vaginalis On the English version of the article on Trichomonas_vaginalis one is presented with the binomial name in Italic script....which is the correct form! Unfortunately, other language versions don't use this form of script, for example Italian (https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trichomonas_vaginalis) and Irish Gaelic (https://ga.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trichomonas_vaginalis), how can one correct these errors?Ériugena (talk) 10:08, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ériugena: The convention on English Wikipedia is explained at MOS:TAXON, which for species binomial names does mean that italics are used. I can't speak for other language Projects, which may well have their own rules. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:24, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What makes you think that those Wikipedias have conventions to present the name in italic script? Do you have links to the relevant guidance? @Ériugena The binomial looks to be in italics in the Italian infobox, but not the Gallic one. I've not checked, but is this an issue across every taxon there on those wikis? Citation within an explanatory note[edit]

Brooklyn Bushwicks[edit]

As a kid growing up in Woodhaven, Queens (at the Brooklyn-Queens border) I spent many Sundays with my dad going to Bushwick doubleheaders. We lived close enough to walk to Dexter Park. I wish I could remember the date, but we went to a game where NY Yankee pitcher Whitey Ford, who recently died, played for the US Army team against the Bushwicks and hit a triple. In your article, it was noted that several Yankee stars, Joe DiMaggio, Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig had also appeared there and thought you might be able to add Ford to the article. It had to be in the early 50's, probably during the Korean War. I remember the names of two teams I watched play there, The Philly Stars and The House of David. Cite sketch[edit]

In 1825 the Revd John Skinner made a sketch of the Skerne Bridge, included it in his 'Record of a Journey through the North of England', and left it (with 145 other volumes) to - eventually - the British Library. It is the earliest picture of the bridge, and the only one showing it in its original form. A black-and-white photo/scan of it can be seen here but I have obtained a colour version from the BL and I am requesting permission to upload it to Commons. Whether I get permission or not, I want to record the existence and location of the picture, so that those who are interested can locate it (it took me a nearly three months just to confirm who actually held the original).--Verbarson (talk) 20:21, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Verbarson: The Additional manuscripts collection of the British Library is so well known that a citation of the form 'Add MS 33684, f. 89' would be considered sufficient in most relevant scholarly journals. I do not know what our policy is. As a minimum, you might try just linking the "Add Ms" part, like this: Add MS 33684, f. 89. Since we don't have a space constraint, you can just expand that as "catalogue number 33684 in the Additional manuscripts collection of the British Library, folio 89." -Arch dude (talk) 00:26, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Verbarson: I do not think the WMF's lawyers believe that the BL, or anyone else, has the authority to grant or deny your right to copy and upload that material. @Arch dude: I am aware of the 'Coetzee case', and I have just looked up the UK IPO guidance on the matter, from which it looks as if a straightforward photo of an out-of-copyright work gains no additional copyright (with usual IANAL disclaimer). However, since I have requested permission, I will wait and see what happens, and if they say 'no' I'll suggest that they do not have a leg to stand on. Hi, I am Ram Dhaneesh Here are some troubles by user MT731, Troubles are,

Bokaro Steel City is a Urban Agglomeration in Jharkhand state of India, actually the article is about the city, I moved the page to Bokaro Steel City to Bokaro, Jharkhand for the article name should be proper and easy to identify the city, but User:MT731 is reverted again. So please do any action.
2 nd trouble is he is continuously reverting or undoing sourced edits in List of million-plus urban agglomerations in India, without citing any sources.

With my basic Italian and DeepL at hand, it is still quite hard to understand the above complaint. The best I can understand is that they think the ancient city of Sinuessa is not located near current-day Mondragone but rather near Sessa Aurunca. Due to the absence of sources either here or in the article, and my entire ignorance of the history and geography at hand, I cannot say whether that is correct or not. Need help fixing table[edit]

Need someone to help edit this list article I made. The dates in the column of "Date of rank" are all misaligned despite being set to align="right". I want to get that alignment fixed so that it looks like the other lists I created and those I have tried to emulate in style. I've tried for a while but can't seem to find the issue. Is there anyone who knows enough about this kind of thing that can fix the issue without changing the table format to look different from those on the aforementioned list articles, at least visually? I suggest that putting the same amount of data in each cell would help. Some have 2-digit dates, some 1-digit, and some only have a month. In any case, when I view the table (default Vector skin) the dates get wrapped to fit in small columns, so the benefits of 'lining up' are largely lost.--Verbarson (talk) 19:32, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
