Closing peer review importScript[edit]

Hello Help Desk hosts. Please review my edit to add importScript when closing a peer review. I've never closed a peer review, and I followed the directions, and this referenced page looks unusual to me. I hope I have not committed a grievous error, and apologize if that is so. Please check my edit and make any necessary corrections. Kind regards to all,Hu Nhu (talk) 02:24, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Try using double quotes around the file name, instead of single quotes. --David Biddulph (talk) 07:19, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The page you linked looks OK to me. The documentation of the script is linked from the top of the script page, and is at User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/peerReviewCloser. Does the script do the right thing when following the steps under "Usage" there? Enterprisey (talk!) 09:04, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Enterprisey. I have not seen anything particularly wrong, but then I do not quite know what is supposed to happen. I suppose it is the red lettering that confused me; that is so often a bad sign on Wikipedia. I will trust that all is well enough and if there is required correction, then perhaps that editor can contact me so that I know how to properly edit this again. Most kind regards, and thank you for your attention.Hu Nhu (talk) 03:54, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Additional discussion for Template:Tweet (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)[edit]

I opened a topic for discussion on the tweet template's talk page, but as it addresses a broader policy point, which page should I bring it up to in order to get some broader viewpoints? I don't feel its appropriate to bring it to MfD, and I don't know if it's appropriate to bring it up at wp:TFD as it's not a fully baked proposal yet. 142.157.234.234 (talk) 03:18, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

intake-analytics.wikimedia.org[edit]

Today every time I save or preview an article I get the message "Microsoft Edge not responding - waiting for intake-analytics,wikimedia.org. The resulting delay ranges from a few seconds to two or more minutes, making even a simple edit a time-wasting process. What is going on, and when will it be fixed? Downsize43 (talk) 07:11, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Downsize43 If you don't get a good answer here, you could try Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:18, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Downsize43: Do you get a similar error message when using other browsers? GoingBatty (talk) 14:27, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No noticable delay on Safari. Have not tried anything else yet. Downsize43 (talk) 07:16, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Override default infobox image to no image[edit]

See WaveRunner#Video game, where the {{Infobox video game}}'s default Wikidata image is the same as the image in the {{Infobox brand}} at the top of the article. The video game section shouldn't have that image because it is a picture of the actual watercraft.

How can the default parameter of the Infobox video game be overridden to be empty? Also, feel free to do it directly at WaveRunner (or ping me and I may get around to doing it). — MarkH21talk 10:26, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@MarkH21: I've made an edit, though there may be a better way. -- John of Reading (talk) 11:15, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@MarkH21:  Done: I have fixed this issue by filling the image parameter in the video game infobox with the Nowiki template. Redtree21 (talk) 11:17, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't make an edit; I hit an edit conflict. Redtree21's method is fine! -- John of Reading (talk) 11:18, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

When and how to flag a page to be watched for malicious/controversial edits?[edit]

Hi, I have been a contributor to the Metaverse page for some years. With Facebook's recent repositioning itself as a metaverse company, there are lots of edits happening on the page and I wondered when it was appropriate and how to request that the page be watched for malicious/controversial edits? Mostly I just want to make sure that the article is informative and helpful for people looking to understand what the concept means. Thank you so much! Fleep (talk) 12:12, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Fleep:, if you are concerned about bad edits occurring on this page, I would suggest you request that it be protected at WP:RFP. Redtree21 (talk) 12:14, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I will try to figure out how to do that. Fleep (talk) 12:15, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Fleep: No problems at all! To start a request, click on the button titled 'Request protection' near the top of the page and it will take you to a form where you can submit your request. Hope that helps! Redtree21 (talk) 12:18, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Activating WP:TWINKLE fro your account will semi-automate such requests, so you don't have to know all the arcane templates and formatting used on the various request boards. Beeblebrox (talk) 22:41, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Change content model[edit]

Where can I request that an administrator or template editor change the content model of page in my user space. I don't have permission to permission to edit the content model of a page at Special:ChangeContentModel. I'd like it to be JSON instead of wikitext. Thanks, Vexations (talk) 14:07, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Vexations:  Done ~TheresNoTime (to explain!) 14:12, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Adding article[edit]

How do I add a celebrity profile? So that when his name is googled people can read about his Wikipedia page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thecontentshark (talkcontribs) 15:13, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Thecontentshark: Welcome to Wikipedia! Creating a new encyclopedia article is one of the hardest things to do on Wikipedia. To learn the basics of editing, you can visit Help:Introduction and take The Wikipedia Adventure. After you've invested a significant amount of time editing existing articles, you would then gather multiple independent WP:reliable sources about the person to determine if they meet Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, called "notability". If so, then you could follow the guidance at Help:Your first article. If you have any personal or professional relationship with the person, that would be a conflict of interest, which you would have to declare on your user page. Hope this helps, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 15:26, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, we don't do "celebrity profiles" or search engine optimisation. If that's your intent, then use a social network. We write articles on notable people and things in a non-promotional way. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:28, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Definition of "winning season"[edit]

The term "winning season" is used 2,956 times on Wikipedia. I now understand it to mean a season in which a sport team won more than half of their games. However, this is not obvious, and I previously thought it might have meant something like making it to the playoffs, or being the best in a league. Other people may have this question too.

Now the problem is, I cannot find a definition for "winning season" from any reliable source on the internet. If you can find a source for defining this term, please add it to winning percentage with the definition given. —Lights and freedom (talk ~ contribs) 18:22, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Now that's odd. Winning season does mean winning more games than you lose, but I can find no formal definition. Maybe because it should be obvious? You can only get that by inference, e.g. Washington Football Team: "from 1946 to 1970, Washington posted just four winning seasons and never reached the postseason", which shows it has nothing to do with reaching the playoffs. Clarityfiend (talk) 22:44, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, but there are some contexts where it could have meant something else. Given the number of times the term is used on Wikipedia, I think it should be defined on Wikipedia. —Lights and freedom (talk ~ contribs) 00:57, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Lights and freedom: Hi there! Since Wikipedia is not a dictionary, maybe you'd like to add it to Wiktionary instead. GoingBatty (talk) 01:12, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Somebody could add it to Wiktionary too. But Wikipedia should explain any possibly confusing terms that it uses. Like I said, I can't find any reliable sources that define "winning season". —Lights and freedom (talk ~ contribs) 01:40, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Lights and freedom: I think I have found a definition, but I don't want to edit the article as I know very little about US sport: "20 consecutive winning seasons ... For 20 straight years, the Dallas Cowboys finished above .500."[1] TSventon (talk) 02:44, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In sports, I have never heard of any other meaning for "winning season". Can you provide a counterexample? Clarityfiend (talk) 03:33, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Clarityfiend: Oh no, I wasn't saying it had any other meaning, I was saying that in certain contexts, a reader who didn't know the term might be not understand it. Wikipedia articles should be made as easy to understand as possible without sacrificing tone or correctness. —Lights and freedom (talk ~ contribs) 05:40, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Clarityfiend: some of the Wikipedia mentions of "winning season" are part of a longer phrase such as "championship winning season". Google books describes "My Winning Season", as "John Terry's own account of Chelsea's 2004/05 season, culminating in the championship". TSventon (talk) 10:47, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How can i propose an good article to become a featured article?[edit]

I couldn't find the answer anywhere, so I apologize if I missed it.

@Contribiter423: Hi there! The nomination procedure is located at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates - click the "show" link in the green bar labeled "How to nominate an article". Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 00:02, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

UW template for misrepresenting sources[edit]

Is there a user-warning template (single or multi-level) for misrepresenting sources? I looked through Category:Standardised user warning templates and didn't find any, but there are hundreds and not all are intuitively named. Schazjmd (talk) 23:43, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Schazjmd: See WP:WARN - {{uw-unsourced1}} through to {{uw-unsourced4}} are available. Don't forget to substitute them when warning editors. Mjroots (talk) 06:54, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I was hoping there was one more specific, Mjroots, but thanks for the answer. Schazjmd (talk) 13:20, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
