Chrome editing problems[edit]

Perhaps it is just me, but I thought I should ask - since the last Chrome update (Version 100.0.4896.75 (Official Build) (64-bit)) about a week ago, the "Edit source" screen no longer recognizes mouse selection. This happens on both a Windows 8.1 desktop and a Windows 10 laptop. Everything else seems to work, but I cannot move the cursor nor make a selection inside the edit window using the mouse. Changing to Microsoft Edge has a reduced version of the problem - the mouse works mostly but may be a line off. But I would prefer to use Chrome. Has anybody experienced something similar?--Gronk Oz (talk) 02:22, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Gronk Oz Yeah, sometimes I have to try a few times to get the cursor where I want. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 05:51, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Gronk Oz, @Gråbergs Gråa Sång, not sure if this is related... but lots of Web code is failing when checking Chrome version numbers, now that checking 2 digits is not enough. I think Firefox just went above 99 also. 73.127.147.187 (talk) 06:11, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Probably worth us taking it to wp:VPT if we think this is more than a one-off Nosebagbear (talk) 18:51, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
For what it's worth, I'm seeing the same problem in Firefox 98 (under Windows 7, using the Source Editor). Essentially, when I click in the edit area with the mouse, the insertion point appears some distance from where I clicked (typically, a couple of lines before or after). But moving the cursor with the arrow keys appears to work as expected. I noticed this for the first time about 24 hours ago. Mike Marchmont (talk) 12:13, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Similar. In the past few days, using both Chrome on Linux (Lubuntu), and Edge on Windows 10 (both up-to-date), the cursor will not reliably appear where I click in the source code editor - it's usually about 3-5 rows higher up. -- Verbarson  talkedits 13:34, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad I'm not the only one. When I click in the edit box the cursor generally appears about 2-3 lines up and some distance to the left of where I clicked. This has been happening for about a week for me. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 13:45, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The same is happening here, so it's definitely a generalized issue. Isabelle 🏳‍🌈 13:48, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yay - what prize do I win for reporting it first? BTW, it has been reported at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)#Possible_Thursday_weirdness.--Gronk Oz (talk) 14:10, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I could give you a Brilliant Idea Barnstar. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 13:25, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I started seeing this a few days ago too. It's very annoying. --Srleffler (talk) 18:07, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Question about user scripts[edit]

So, I was thinking about getting AutoEd (a user script), but I need to know first: do user scripts work on mobile? Ididntknowausername (talk) 02:41, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

JS to get currently logged in user's name[edit]

For example, I can use document.querySelector('[title="Your user page"]').textContent, but it can be manipulated by other scripts. Is there a better way to get the current user's name? I.hate.spam.mail.here (talk | contributions) 03:03, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

mw.config.get('wgUserName'). Null for ips. —Cryptic 03:40, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to make a show/hide table[edit]

I'm trying to make a show/hide table at Pawnless_chess_endgame#Tables. You can see that my attempt doesn't work. There must be something about the format or syntax. How should this be done? Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 08:19, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bubba73. Have you tried looking at Help:Collapsing? It looks like you're trying to collapse a quasi sub-section instead of a table. Maybe each table header should be converted to a level-3 subsection and then collapsing only the tables would work better. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:33, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I think I've got it. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 00:27, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Done. An admin, such as myself, needs to delete it. I deleted it using WP:G7 as a rationale. Is there anything else you need help with today? --Jayron32 13:12, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Request Procedure[edit]

Hi there,

I have been editing on the page Marvin Berglas, but I know seem to have my editing privileges taken away from me on this page. I was told to use the 'Edit Request Procedure' but I can't see the Marvin Berglas page on there?

Please can you help me understand how I can go about to editing this page again and fixing the issues that I made beforehand with accidental violation of Wikipedia polices.

I am new to Wikipedia and am trying my best to follow all guidelines.

Many Thanks Showtime87 (talk) 14:35, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Showtime87: Please see Template:Request edit for how to make a request. That page also has a link to the edit request wizard, which may be a better option for you. Eagleash (talk) 14:51, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Showtime87 The edit request procedure is described here. In short:
  1. Visit the talk page of the page you want to edit (so if you want to edit Marvin's Magic, you would go to Talk:Marvin's Magic).
  2. Copy and the following and paste it on the talk page: {{request edit}}
  3. Spell out what changes you want to make in a "Change X to Y because Z" format. Make sure you cite some reliable sources that support each change you wish to make. Make sure the sources you cite are independent from Mr. Berglas and Marvin's Magic.
That's basically the edit request procedure. Now, I see what you are wanting is probably to replace the redirect from Marvin Berglas to Marvin's Magic with an article about Marvin himself. Currently there is a draft (which you have worked on) awaiting review. At this point, what you should do is wait for a response from articles for creation. You should not try to use the edit request to replace the redirect with the contents of the draft at this time. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 14:54, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a standard chapter order in pages on specific medical conditions?[edit]

I have been working on the Fibromyalgia page, and I am wondering about the logic of the chapter order (Classification, signs and symptoms, risk factors etc.). I tried looking at the cancer page for comparison, and the order there is somewhat different (Etymology, signs and symptoms, causes). Is there a standard order for chapters in medical topics such as this? Tx SigTif (talk) 14:53, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Try asking Wikipedia:WikiProject_Medicine. Or looking at the manual of style for medicine-related artiacles. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:20, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Status of a page on Gregg Rapp[edit]

 Courtesy link: Draft:Gregg Rapp
Hello,

I've written a page on Gregg Rapp, and I wonder at what point it is at in the review process. I believe I wrote it about 6 weeks ago, and I haven't got any word if it needs changing before it goes live.
   All my best,
       Brian

@Wansink: Welcome to the Teahouse. The draft has been reviewed and declined on grounds of inappropriate tone approaching promotional advertisement. I will note that it's strange that you haven't received a message on your talk page about the draft, as one is usually given regardless of the decision given. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 17:09, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) @Wansink: The item is at Draft:Gregg Rapp and it has been declined (as at the end of February). I cannot immediately see why, but the automatic notification does not seem to have arrived at your talk page. The draft looks to have submitted correctly but there are no messages in your talk page history. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Or, you can use the [ reply ] button, which automatically signs posts.) Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 17:11, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Jean-Paul Clébert clean up[edit]

Jean-Paul Clébert (60 pageviews in 30 days) needs clean up. Hatnotes & categories? .... 0mtwb9gd5wx (talk) 19:09, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, 0mtwb9gd5wx, it needs a clean-up. Notably, it shouldn't have ASINs: there's no need for Wikipedia to drive readers towards a particular retailer. (If a book lacks an ISBN, perhaps just because it predates their wide use, then a good idea is to provide an OCLC number. Commonly, several are available, and the editor should look at the alternatives and choose among them carefully.) What are you suggesting about hatnotes and categories? -- Hoary (talk) 01:18, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
add useful templates to facilitate crowd-sourced clean-up. .... 0mtwb9gd5wx (talk) 01:22, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you can think of useful templates that would encourage clean-up, 0mtwb9gd5wx, you are free to add them. Better of course is to start the work of cleaning up yourself. -- Hoary (talk) 01:47, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How to start a Wikipedia page for someone if there is a conflict of interest[edit]

Francesco Petruccione is listed in the below article in Reference 1 and 2. I would like to furnish more detail and create a page for Francesco Petruccione in order for public interest and other contributors to please add to that article.

Here is a page where Francesco Petruccione is referenced Quantum machine learning in References number 1 and 2.

How does one go about creating such a page? Please advise. Many thanks. Warm regards, Rene Kotze National Institute for Theoretical and Computational Sciences. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NITheCS (talkcontribs) 20:00, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

NITheCS First, you will need to change your username so that it reflects a specific individual is exclusively operating your account and giving no one else access. I will post instructions on how to do that on your user talk page. Regarding your question, please understand that Wikipedia has articles, not "pages". This is a subtle but important distinction. Typically, articles are written by independent editors wholly unconnected with the topic, but it is not forbidden to write about a subject for which you have a conflict of interest. If you can demonstrate with significant coverage in independent reliable sources that this person meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable person, you may use Articles for Creation to create and submit a draft article for review by independent editors. You will need to be familiar with the conflict of interest policy. If you are editing as part of your job duties or are otherwise compensated for editing, you must make a formal paid editing declaration, a Terms of Use requirement. Please read Your First Article. 331dot (talk) 20:10, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Can I edit articules only in English? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LupusAtram (talkcontribs) 20:12, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How to deal with a conflict like this?[edit]

I reverted an unconstructive edit and was reverted back. Help me. 1Ak-eater06 (talk) 22:43, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like you're having a disagreement over wording with another editor. Try following WP:DR and discussing things with them on the article talk page. There doesn't seem (at least to me) to be a clear policy or guideline based reason for preferring one version of the other, which means it most likely depends on personal preference. If you both continue reverting the other to try and get your version into the article, you both are running the risk of ending up blocked for edit warring. Better to discuss this on the talk page and see if you can sort things out. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:57, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Ak-eater06, for the pictures, the ones you linked to do not seem to be free of copyright, so we probably can't use them. And the second link does not work. 73.127.147.187 (talk) 07:19, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
