"sus" is showing on a description of an article[edit]

I clicked the further information link on the article Ranil_Wickremesinghe#Presidency_(2022–present), but it's only showing "sus" when I hover it, I checked both the {{shortdesc}} and the wikidata description are normal, so could someone fix that possible vandalism? --QiuLiming1 (talk) 04:10, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This vandalism to the article 2022 Sri Lankan presidential election seems to have been corrected by our resident anti-vandalism bot. – RoxySaunders 🏳️‍⚧️ (💬 • 📝) 04:13, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There was vandalism at 2022_Sri_Lankan_presidential_election but it is now fixed RudolfRed (talk) 04:14, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
it's still showing "sus" when I hoover it, even when I open a new private window. QiuLiming1 (talk) 04:49, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@QiuLiming1, please consider clearing your browser cache. The account that used to destroy has been banned. Q𝟤𝟪 12:18, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
mw:Page Previews#FAQ says it may show the cached version of a page. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:45, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've found that purging the page or making a dummy edit normally clears that up. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 14:50, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There is a gadget in preferences that adds a UTC clock to the upper-right hand corner which also contains a purge link to the page you're on; that might help for situations like this. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v a little blue Bori 19:40, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Template positioning[edit]

Is there a guideline? I generally find them at the bottom of the page, but I came upon List of United Kingdom locations: Upper I-Upper W, which has it at the top. Clarityfiend (talk) 05:53, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Normally, yes, navigation boxes go at the bottom of the article. However, that is not the only use for templates, and in this case the template is for subpage navigation, because the list is so long that it had to be broken down into many pages alphabetically. The top position is appropriate here. 2406:3003:2077:1E60:C998:20C6:8CCF:5730 (talk) 06:23, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's highly unusual to have a template using {{Navbox}} at the top but I agree with the use here. When a long list is split, the top usually provides navigation to the other parts. It's nearly always done with other methods but {{Navbox}} seems suitable here due to the large number of lists (159). PrimeHunter (talk) 13:34, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Making a template[edit]

The instructions for creating a template are very confusing... I've used the visual template editor (I think) so this is what I have so far:

This is what I have so far
this guy editing a template

And this guy on YouTube is editing a template. how do I get to that page? is it the same one?

Thanks in advance Oriiiiii (talk) 09:40, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Oriiiiii: The only content of Template:Simplecast is TemplateData. TemplateData is a method to document the template for users of VisualEditor. Most templates don't have TemplateData. It's not required and doesn't do anything when the template is used. I suggest ignoring it when you are new to templates. I still ignore it and I have thousands of template edits. See Help:Template for how to make the actual template code that does something. Click in the text area to edit the template code. You have apparently enabled "New wikitext mode" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures. The YouTube video doesn't use it. I'm not so familiar with it but I don't think it's well suited to template edits. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:05, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Validity of closure request[edit]

Is Wikipedia:Closure_requests#Wikipedia:Proposed_article_mergers#Merge_requests a valid request for WP:CR? Someone once told me that people are probably aware that there is a backlog. Something like this could stay there indefinitely. Please {{ping}} me when you respond. -- Jax 0677 (talk) 11:12, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Phoney[edit]

I used to give to Wikipedia, however after reading many pages such as Stew Peters (I believe has harmfully incorrect information); I believe this is another Government controlled fake platform. I will no longer support this institution. 172.221.78.106 (talk) 13:06, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

IP, if you're posting this in good faith, you might be interested to know that anyone can edit and sometimes the best thing to do is try fixing it! TheresNoTime (talk • she/her) 13:08, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever can be said about Wikipedia, it definitely isn't government controlled. Volunteer editors from around the World can edit most articles including Stew Peters so how is a government supposed to control it? The content can be discussed at Talk:Stew Peters. See Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:Fringe theories for some relevant policies. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:19, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Guys, do not respond to inflammatory posts like this. They're not here to talk to us, but rather at us (note the article in question is under sanctions). —Jéské Couriano v^_^v a little blue Bori 19:42, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Maintenance template removal[edit]

I fixed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canary_Burton - Following https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Maintenance_template_removal instructions but after clicking on EDIT I am unable to remove template. Ganellia (talk) 15:20, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It shouldn't be removed because none of what you added was an improvement in sourcing. Notes like Résumé at her website, accessed 24 November 2015, now deleted and Driller was her married name, which she abandoned in the 1970s are inappropriate and useless. PRAXIDICAE🌈 15:26, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ganellia To elaborate on what Praxidicae says, the phrase "Driller was her married name...' is not a published source. How do you know this information? If you can cite this to a reliable, independent, published source, then include that source as a reference. 71.228.112.175 (talk) 06:02, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Removing a username from View History[edit]

On the [a] page, is there a way to remove [some identifying information] from the View history section? This is [information] we thought had been removed []. Blast the sub (talk) 16:37, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Blast the sub: I'm not sure if it will be done, but you can go to WP:OVERSIGHT to contact the team that can help with this. RudolfRed (talk) 17:02, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback wanted[edit]

Not an issue for Help desk/Archives. Referred elsewhere.

See Talk:Ana Đurić Sb008 (talk) 19:05, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This isn't a request for help with editing Wikipedia, which is all this page is for. This looks like an issue for WP:RFD. --Beeblebrox (talk) 19:07, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Pending changes expiry[edit]

[1]

I just made a couple of edits to a pending-changes-protected page, which will happen to have its pending changes expire in less than 24 hours. If nobody reviews my changes by the time protection ends, will the changes automatically be accepted by the system, or will they be automatically rejected? (I know it's likely that someone would review them before that happens, even if I hadn't come here to ask.) I wondered if protection would be extended until someone got around to reviewing them, but that didn't seem plausible. 49.198.51.54 (talk) 21:04, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting question. What should happen is that your edits would go live the protection expired, since there is no longer anything preventing that. Beeblebrox (talk) 23:49, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Beeblebrox I think you missed a word in that explanation. 71.228.112.175 (talk) 06:04, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
