How to show language when using lang template?[edit]

I'm trying to show the name of the language when using the lang template. How can I do it? The text is Grupo de Apoyo Mutuo and I'm using for it the following wikitext: {{lang|es|italic=no|[[Grupo de Apoyo Mutuo]]}}. Cheers! Thinker78 (talk) 00:22, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Thinker78 if you intend to write "Spanish: Grupo de Apoyo Mutuo", then you should remove "italic=no" to conform with MOS:FOREIGNITALIC; so Spanish: Grupo de Apoyo Mutuo. Bazza (talk) 09:50, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Thinker78 The full text of that guideline states "Names of organizations and institutions should not be in italics, unless the context would otherwise require it, as upon first usage in an article about the organization.", which is what I was referring to. @Thinker78 I don't know why you want to precede the foreign language phrase with the language's name. Most articles which contain this construct have it at the start of the article when a term is being defined in a language other than English, so meeting MOS:FOREIGNITALIC's requirement to use italics; see English Channel for an example. As I suggested before, I can't think of why else you require the Spanish text in "Spanish: Grupo de Apoyo Mutuo" to not be in italics, although you may have a requirement I'm unaware of. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bazza 7 (talk • contribs) 18:56, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Bazza 7 sorry, but I got lost a little bit. I didn't get your answer about why do you think in this case Grupo de Apoyo Mutuo requires italics. You did mention the guideline before and we had an interaction. Can you provide a more specific and elaborate rationale why you think it needs to be in italics? @Lettherebedarklight: I think you've misunderstood. I took this to mean this person is Matt Van Buren, an MMA fiughter who hasn't fought since 2017.

To answer the IPs question, all Wikipedia content is meant to be based on coverage in reliable sources. If a reliable source has reported on your retirement, any user can add that information to the article. Beeblebrox (talk) 03:59, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Matt, thanks for asking first, WP prefers that you don't edit the article directly yourself. We need something acceptable to source "retired" to (per our WP:BLP rules). In this particular case, a WP:ABOUTSELF source like your Facebook (it has the blue checkmark) would work, so if you add something like "Retired from mma in 2018" at say [2], that should be usable. Help with Template:navseasoncats in two categories[edit]

The two most recent college basketball seasons with independent teams are Category:2014–15 NCAA Division I men's basketball independents season and Category:2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball independents season. But since they're 7 seasons apart, when you go to those two categories, it's not possible to easily navigate between them via {{navseasoncats}} at the top. Is there a way to modify {{navseasoncats}} in each of those cats to make the succeeding / preceding NCAA independents season category appear?

Can't create a redirect[edit]

I am trying to add a redirect for MK5056. Following the pattern I saw yesterday, I am not allowed to do so, and there is no offer to make a draft.

1) what is special about this page that a draft is not being offered? There is no entry in the deletion log and no other reason I can see. 2) as this is a redirect, a draft is not appropriate. What can I do?

Explanation why my topic was not accepted[edit]

I have edited some topics and tried to propose a page. The page was denied and I don't know why. The person who denied it is no longer available to explain why it was denied or what else I can do to establish a page.

I believe they're talking about their now-deleted sandbox page. @LGOWA, Wikipedia is not a place for chronicling processes - it is not meant to be a "How to" guide, but a collection of encyclopedia articles which summarize what reliable sources have said about notable subjects. Inserting thumbnail in infobox[edit]

Hi..trying to insert a thumbnail photo in an infobox and in preview it displays: File:BarryforWikipedia.jpg in red rather than the image. The article is "Colleen Barry" What am I doing wrong? Thank you. Brooksjim (talk) 15:43, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi..I tried to declare the evident COI but saw no means for doing it. I previously declared a COI when I attempted to post a page for the school here at Cornell so I understand the concept, not the execution. I restored the wording because I didn't realize the scope of the edits, that another person was involved, and because it had, I believe, previously been approved. Again, operator error (me). My updates only concerned adding detail regarding years, and a thumbnail photo. The edits were minor and left the wording untouched. I'm happy to backtrack and take whatever steps are necessary. Please consider using {{edit request}}s (or the Edit Request Wizard if you find that easier) to suggest edits via the talk page in the future, as our COI policy strongly suggests. Hi Brooksjim. I just have three comments. Number one is that infobox images generally should not be formatted as thumbnails as explained in WP:IBI. Since most infoboxes have set up to automatically size the main image so that it can be seen accessed by most devices, there's no need to use a thumbnail-type markup for size purposes. In addition, since most infoboxes have a |caption= parameter for images, there's no need to use a thumbnail-type markup for caption purposes. Number two is that you should carefully read through WP:COI and WP:PSCOI if you're personally or professional connected to Barry and do your utmost to follow guidance given on those pages. Lastly, number three is that you should read c:COM:Own work and make sure any files you upload to Commons are really your "own work". Generally, the copyright of a photo is "owned" by the person who takes it, and only the copyright holder of a photo can claim it as their "own work" and give their c:COM:CONSENT. The subject of a photo doesn't typically own it's copyright unless it has been transferred to them. So, if you didn't take the Barry photo and you want to use it on Wikipedia, you will need to find out who took it and get their consent. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:23, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

recapture not working[edit]
