April 1[edit]

There is a pornographic photo (red boots) on this page. While i am not offended this page is available to young children without any restrictions and might be a little confusing etc to them. Please remove the picture. (If the woman had a head on her body I might find it less pornographic but since it's basically a crotch shot it appears to be rather for titillation via an objectification/pornographic versus illustrative) 75.100.4.4 (talk) 01:19, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not censored. The subject is sexual by nature. If the image helps illustrate the subject, then it's perfectly valid. If you have a specific reason why it shouldn't be there, you can discuss it at Talk:Shoe fetishism. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 01:28, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm! Considering the credit citation for that photo, it could probably also illustrate the article for candaulism, too! Uporządnicki (talk) 20:44, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Support[edit]

as I see in Meta, there is a specific template for "support" which invokes a green plus sign. I also saw such a sign in Indonesian wiki as well. Can't we have it in this Wikipedia as well, or am I missing an existing template which invokes such a sign? Thanks. zoglophie 06:06, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Are you referring to this?
"The established consensus on the English Wikipedia is that templates used to mark "votes" during XfD discussions—such as a small image and text label, for example, " Keep" — are not to be used. Any template created solely for this purpose may be tagged with speedy deletion criterion G4.
The rationale behind the consensus against these on the English Wikipedia is that they encourage voting rather than a discussion aimed at the generation of consensus. A contributing factor to the recurrence of discussions on this matter is the widespread use of these type of templates on other Wikimedia sites." (Source: Wikipedia:Voting templates).
I assume that this would apply mutatis mutandis to contexts other than WP:XfD as well. Random person no 362478479 (talk) 06:31, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The GA inline template produces – I'm not sure if that's what you were looking for.
To anyone else, while I'm still here, does anyone know if there's a template that shows off both the raw text and the outcome of the template, especially for icons like this? Could've sworn there was one, but I have no idea where to look or if my brain's playing tricks on me. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 11:46, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Skarmory and @Zoglophie: There's a Javascript one can install on their personal common.js page that I use, User:Ais523/votesymbols.js. So long as the words are bolded, you'll see the icons at the beginning of the string. It only affects what you see but not the actual page. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 16:46, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, perhaps this page helps as well: Template:Check mark templates --Maresa63 Talk 19:16, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dennis weaver[edit]

I was reading about actor Dennis Weaver, and in the personal section it has his date of death listed as 2016 and his age as 90. His date of death is 2006 and his age was 81.how can that be changed? 2600:1700:2480:1510:F461:E524:9D60:94D0 (talk) 12:00, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You might be getting confused with his wife, who died in 2016, aged 90. Bretonbanquet (talk) 12:16, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Authoritative source[edit]

My question is: will Everybody Wiki source be an authoritative source? 178.126.200.198 (talk) 16:40, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

User editable websites are generally not considered reliable sources. Wikipedia isn't a reliable source, either. 331dot (talk) 16:41, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Interwiki linking[edit]

My interwiki link isn't rendering:

  • Wikitext: [[zh:徐壽|Shou Xu]]
  • As rendered: Shou Xu

What am I doing wrong? — BillHPike (talk, contribs) 17:01, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@BillHPike: To make an inline link, you need to stick a colon in front of the language code. Confusingly, a bot has done exactly that to your post. Without the colon, it's treated as an Interlanguage link - read that page for more. -- John of Reading (talk) 17:13, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New page[edit]

Hello,

I made a new draft. about a French criminal case (User:Jeanne Angerie/sandbox - Wikipedia) and I'm not sure about my text. Can someone help me, please ?

You're sincerely,

Jeanne Angerie. Jeanne Angerie (talk) 17:22, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Jeanne Angerie: What exactly are you unsure about? I think this could be sent to AFC as-is – it could use some copyediting, it's not perfect English-wise, but it's certainly not awful. (Important note: sources come after punctuation, not before.) The article itself looks fairly solid, if a bit short. I'm not entirely sure it meets crime-related notability guidelines, but I've never been very sure where those start and end. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 23:22, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Skarmory.
I'm not sure about the syntaxe of my sentences. Thank for your help, I will change the place of the sources.
Thank you. Jeanne Angerie (talk) 09:08, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Skarmory,
I have make changes what you tell me.
If you want, can you confirm me that it is really whant you want ?
Thank you,
Jeanne Angerie. Jeanne Angerie (talk) 09:15, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeanne Angerie: I have done some work on the English of the article. The article is about recently deceased people so Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons policy applies. In particular, information in the first two paragraphs should be sourced inline, unless it is sourced in later sections. TSventon (talk) 10:24, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeanne Angerie Murder is, regrettably, a common crime. You have written about two specific victims but I don't see any evidence in the draft that the individuals themselves were notable, so WP:1E applies and the draft is likely to be declined, in my opinion. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:08, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. I will try to find what can I do with this draft. Because, on the French article, this murder takes an importante place in the news.
Thanks for your reply. Jeanne Angerie (talk) 16:12, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeanne Angerie and Michael D. Turnbull:, WP:1E suggests that there should not be articles for the individuals involved, WP:EVENTCRITERIA are criteria for whether there should be an article about the event. I still don't see evidence that the event is notable in the draft. TSventon (talk) 16:27, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This Image Fine To Use For This Sandbox[edit]

I Working On A Sandbox About Web Series Character (The Link Is Here) i not sure i should add a image i found from wikimedia common that under the apache license 2.0 so. NatwonTSG2 (talk) 19:00, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I'm guessing that you are talking about C:File:Skidandpump.png, which (as you note) appears to be licensed under Apache License V2.0. (There is a note that it was transferred from Korean Wikipedia)
I cannot find any discussion in Commons of the significance or effect of this licence, but my impression is that that is specifically a software licence, so I doubt whether it can apply to graphic designs at all, and my guess is that the graphics are copyright and not free-licensed. I may be wrong though. I suggest you ask at C:COM:VPC. ColinFine (talk) 19:47, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I'm talking about that file. NatwonTSG2 (talk) 20:03, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
but this file was non free and the village pump only allowed free content. NatwonTSG2 (talk) 20:06, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The weird licensing seems to be due to the fact that the source is the github repository of the game Friday Night Funkin'. I am not particularly confident that the creators of that game have the necessary rights to use the character much less making it available with a free licence. Caption[edit]

This caption is not comprehensible enough: "Ukrainians, winners of the Ballon d'Or played for Dynamo Kyiv Andriy Shevchenko, Oleh Blokhin and Ihor Belanov". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FC_Dynamo_Kyiv. JackkBrown (talk) 23:20, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
