Disabling Wikimedia shortcut keys[edit]

Is it possible to disable the Wikimedia shortcut keys in general, or specific access key combinations?— Ineuw talk 01:42, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Go to your preferences, select the Gadgets tab and check the disable access keys checkbox, this should disable them. StarryNightSky11  01:55, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Much thanks. When was this option added?— Ineuw talk 02:07, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly, I really don't know but it has been there for quite a while as far as I'm aware. StarryNightSky11  03:00, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Twinkle "follow site preferences" option for watchlist time[edit]

I recently started using WP:TW for features that aren't in WP:RW. When changing the settings, I noticed the titular option. What does this mean? How do I change this site preference? Aaron Liu (talk) 02:14, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You can visit [1] to adjust your preferences for Twinkle which apply to your account only. StarryNightSky11  03:03, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I know that, that’s where I saw the option Aaron Liu (talk) 13:54, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Aaron Liu: I think "follow site preferences" tells Twinkle to look at the Watchlist section of your preferences, where there are some checkboxes starting with "Add pages and files I edit to my watchlist" -- John of Reading (talk) 07:59, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There aren’t any options related to duration though.Aaron Liu (talk) 13:54, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I understand it to mean that Twinkle will use whatever preference the wiki has allowed you to set or if the wiki doesn't offer you such an option in its preferences, whatever default the wiki has. In the case of watchlist durations, I think en.wiki defaults to perpetual. NebY (talk) 20:36, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Adarsh rai[edit]

Adarsh rai was borned in (1923) he was the biggest businessman in INDIA in the British rule. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adarsh rai bhumihar (talkcontribs) 04:20, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

hi @Adarsh rai bhumihar and welcome to Wikipedia! do you have a question regarding it? if you are trying to make an article for yourself, we heavily do not recommend it, more information about this can be found at Autobiography but the short of that is we don't recommend it as it's hard to make one that is also neutral and verifiable by independent sources, which are required here. happy editing! 💜  melecie  talk - 04:31, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I doubt that Adarsh rai bhumihar is claiming to be 99 years old. He is claiming that the biggest businessman in India in 1947 was aged only 24, which I find hard to believe. Maproom (talk) 08:13, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong age. Under Kurt Miller (baseball)[edit]

Wrong age. Under Kurt Miller (baseball) the age listed is 15. Should be 50. Can someone fix it? Foxygagnon (talk) 13:33, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. That was some vandalism which I have reverted. Shantavira|feed me 14:00, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Posr articles[edit]

Hi I am zaidi and I want to know how can I post my articles in this site? Zaidi7600 (talk) 16:37, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Zaidi7600: you may create an article on any notable subject, as we define notability: see WP:N. If your subject is not notable, your article cannot remain on Wikipedia and you will have wasted your effort and ours, so establishing notability is the very first thing you must do. We delete about 200 non-notable articles every day. After that, please see WP:YFA. -Arch dude (talk) 16:49, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Zaidi7600, if your purpose is promoting (= "telling people about") soundtheropy.com, please choose a different site, as promotion is forbidden on Wikipedia. An article on soundtheropy is possible only if it meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability, which basically means that several people unconnected with the site have published significant coverage about it in reliable sources. If that is the case, then the article will be based on what those sources say about it (good or bad) not on what the proprietors say or want to say. Guideline on self-referencing links' section[edit]

I cannot find any guideline explicitly saying where to put related links to non-article pages (for articles that relate to a Wikipedia page itself, like United States congressional staff edits to Wikipedia and WP:Congressional staffer edits). WP:WAWI suggests that "if you link from an article to a specific Wikipedia page, use external link style, so the link will make sense in any context" in relation to link styling. Does this include the See also section, so it would go into External links/Further reading? If so, where is the guideline for this? I can't find it and I wanted to check before I added it into WP:WAWI and moved a link in the aforementioned article. Thanks. – Mullafacation {◌͜◌ talk} 17:16, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WP:WAWI covers discussions of Wikipedia articles within the prose of other Wikipedia articles. If I read you correctly, you're looking for the sort of guidance given in MOS:APPENDIX instead. XAM2175 (T) 02:08, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that's it! It doesn't have anything about what I'm looking for, but that seems to be where the guidance should be, yes. – Mullafacation {◌͜◌ talk} 16:24, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

My page Sulumbek of Sagopshi and Akhmed Khuchbarov[edit]

Hello, I don't really know how to explain but I would like to know how can I connect my pages "Sulumbek of Sagopshi" and "Akhmed Khuchbarov" with already existing russian pages "Сулумбек Сагопшинский" and "Хучбаров, Ахмед"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiEditor1234567123 (talkcontribs) 17:21, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have merged the two Wikidata identities in each case. --David Biddulph (talk) 17:32, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks alot David Biddulph. By the way if I have similar situation in future, do I always have to ask admin or is there a way that I can do it myself? — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiEditor1234567123 (talkcontribs) 17:44, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not an admin, & see answer to your question below. - David Biddulph (talk) 18:09, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oh I also forgot, there's french page "Sulumbek Sagopshinsky", I would be glad if you could connect that one too with the "Sulumbek of Sagopshi" and "Сулумбек Сагопшинский". — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiEditor1234567123 (talkcontribs) 17:47, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Go to the Russian article, click on Wikidata item on the left hand menu to find the Wikidata ident (Q number), then go to the frwiki article, click on Wikidata item there, & from top "More" dropdown select "Merge with". - David Biddulph (talk) 18:13, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks alot David Biddulph. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiEditor1234567123 (talkcontribs) 18:26, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

David Biddulph I'm sorry to bother you again but I'm not able to connect them so could you please connect for me "Sulumbek Sagopshinsky" with "Сулумбек Сагопшинский" and "Sulumbek of Sagopshi"? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiEditor1234567123 (talkcontribs) 18:49, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

 Done - David Biddulph (talk) 18:54, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Once again thank you David Biddulph. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiEditor1234567123 (talkcontribs) 20:07, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"This template has no documented parameters and may be intended for use without them."[edit]

Working on this infobox. This is my first time making an infobox, and when implementing it into an article, received this message when adding in parameters. CROIX (talk) 19:17, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It is because you did not define any parameters. Ruslik_Zero 20:12, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
How do I define parameters? I did some looking around and could not find an answer. I'm assuming this is how you do it: {{Parameter names example|coordinates|population|established|area|timezone|location|
island|parish|dependency|majordivision|town|ed|
ethnicities|zone|districtcouncil|villagecouncil|localgovernment|
airport|heliport|elevation}}
CROIX (talk) 20:25, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You broke this Help page, by using that {{Parameter names example| template on it, so I fixed. If you want to refer to a template, either use the Template:parameter names example syntax, or wrap it in <nowiki> and </nowiki>, or (easiest in my view) use the template {{tl}} or {{tlx}}.
But if you look at {{Parameter names example}}, you'll see that that is about presenting parameter names in the documentation, not about programming the template. I've never done this, and I may be wrong, but my impression is that you need to go into editing the template, and then pick "Edit Template Data" and specify them there.
Alternatively, you could read WP:TDOC. ColinFine (talk) 20:43, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ColinFine, This page was still broken for me (the line did not wrap, so everything was tiny) so I added "br" tags. I hope that's OK. David10244 (talk) 06:33, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ColinFine While I was able to add the parameters, when I insert it into my sandbox page, the template now does not show up. For example, when I type in information into the "elevation" parameter, the elevation section does not show up on the infobox. CROIX (talk) 18:39, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, CROIX, I'm really beyond my limited knowledge of template programming. But I would have thought that the code
| header19 =
| label19 = Elevation
| data19 =
sets up a field labelled "Elevation", but does not tell the template where to get the data from. I would guess that data19 has to be set to get the information from the parameter, perhaps by something like
| data19 = {{{elevation}}}
but I am only guessing. I suggest you read about template programming in the link I gave. ColinFine (talk) 23:03, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

About submit for draft[edit]

{{AfC submission|||ts=20230107195221|u=100.2.114.167|ns=4}} What does it do? How do you do it? How do use like submit about that draft before I have it transferred into a new person as Retired Lieutenant General Georgios Dritsakos of the Hellenic Air Force? Could you help me out in the details and I will create biography as a Greek Military person? 100.2.114.167 (talk) 19:52, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you are asking how to create an article, you may do that via Articles for Creation. 331dot (talk) 20:00, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Do not copy that template. It was generated for you when you added {{subst:submit}} to your original draft. You should therefore add {{subst:submit}} to your new draft. The "subst" operation does a lot of stuff like adding your submittal to the queue. -Arch dude (talk) 20:55, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Editing[edit]

I attempted to edit the entry on my late brother John Kastner (film-maker, Toronto)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Kastner_(filmmaker) - but the edits were refused, possibly because I didn't enter the citations correctly. However, one edit was to try to remove a false link to an "official website" that actually links to a foreign porn site. Advice, please and thanks.Susiep00p00 (talk) 21:37, 7 January 2023 (UTC)susankastner:[reply]

Hello, Susiep00p00. I removed the porn spam external link. When you remove junk like that, please leave a clear edit summary.
For the other content, please read Referencing for beginners. The vast majority of YouTube videos are not considered reliable sources. Cullen328 (talk) 23:09, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Template Assistance (Copy/Paste isn't working)[edit]

I'm having some difficulties getting Template:Infobox storm IF to work properly. I created it as a duplicate to Template:Infobox storm, except all the "EF" or "enhanced" (for the Enhanced Fujita scale) was replaced with "IF" or "international" for the International Fujita scale. Straight duplicate on every other factor. I then tried to use the template on 2021 South Moravia tornado, since that specific tornado was rated on the International Fujita scale (rather than the Fujita scale). I need assistance trying to make this work, because apparently, duplicating the original template and replacing the necessary links don't work. In the end, the infobox on 2021 South Moravia tornado should say IF4 at the top instead of F4 and it should wikilink to International Fujita scale, rather than the Fujita scale. Thanks in advance.
