I Can't Find 4 Hours of Edits On My Draft :( Please Help[edit]

Please help, I was doing a second draft edit of an article and was ready to submit it for review and after 4 hours of researching and writing I added a photo onto the page and because the photo was already in the wiki database it took me to a new page and when I returned to my draft all my edits from today none of them were in my history! Please help Sica23! (talk) 03:50, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@sica23!: sorry, that edit is very likely completely lost. lettherebedarklight晚安 03:56, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
ugh you're definitely right i'm gonna cry Sica23! (talk) 04:00, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I can't publish an article. Please help.[edit]

What is this drop box?

⧼No stashed content found for 0/39d3a441-1587-11ee-a0ed-4cd98faf5af0⧽

This thing kept popping on my screen when I tried to publish an article. Is it because my account is new and haven't met the required amount of article editing? Erik Thant (talk) 04:19, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Jmcgnh: You commented at the Teahouse you were helping another editor with this problem on IRC. Do you have any help you can offer here? RudolfRed (talk) 04:48, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am new to Wikipedia. I thought I created my own post. Sorry about that. How can I delete it? Erik Thant (talk) 04:50, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Erik Thant: Your question is fine here. I simply asked another editor who may be familiar with the problem to offer any advice. If they don't respond, someone else will come along and help. RudolfRed (talk) 05:04, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Erik Thant and RudolfRed: The user wasn't able to stick with me on IRC long enough to actually resolve the issue.
Here is my advice: If you keep an editing window open for a very long time, some tokens associated with the connection get timed out, resulting in this error. To get around this problem, you will have to transfer the source text from the edit window to a new edit window and save it there. Note that this is somewhat guesswork, since this is an error message I had not encountered before and the descriptions of the situations where it occurred are somewhat incomplete. How long had you had the edit window open without publishing? Days? Let us know if you need more detailed instructions. And also let us know if this solves your issue.
Rest assured that the message has nothing to do with the newness of your account. The same permissions that let you post here are sufficient to publish a draft. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 08:01, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for your elaboration. Erik Thant (talk) 08:40, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New article[edit]

I did a new article about a newspaper. Import from german wiki. But it seams I cant publish it. So maybe you can help. If you like it you can publish it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Farang_(Newspaper)

orignial https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Der_Farang 2A02:1210:16F3:8E00:E532:807A:AF34:B117 (talk) 05:18, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure why you say you can't publish it- you have submitted it for review and it is pending. IP users and new accounts cannot directly create articles(perhaps that's what you refer to). 331dot (talk) 08:09, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Farang (Newspaper) could do with some more sources, as it may be declined in its current form. There is a waiting list for review, and since the draft was created today (30 June) it isn't unusual that it hasn't been reviewed yet.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 08:23, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

its just an import. 3 sources in 5-10 lines? where is the problem? also they dont write 100 articles about other newspapers :) you can find many others where it has been quoted but this dont make the article better. send draft just worked after i wrote this. 2A02:1210:16F3:8E00:E532:807A:AF34:B117 (talk) 09:01, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Different Wikipedias have different editors and policies, what is acceptable on one version is not necessarily acceptable on another. It is true that some topic areas are not extensively covered in reliable sources, but this does not mean exceptions can be made; verification and sourcing are important principles. 331dot (talk) 09:52, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
An obvious problem, as far as en:Wikipedia is concerned, is the absence of any references to independent sources. All three current sources are based on what Rüegsegger, an owner of the newspaper, has said. Maproom (talk) 09:56, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Its not what he said on his fb page. its what he said to 3 other mayor newspapers and they bring it up. thats more or less the best source you can have here. its an article about a 30 year old big printed newspaper. there is not even a small thought about its not notable enough to have a small article. 2A02:1210:16F3:8E00:E532:807A:AF34:B117 (talk) 13:13, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's not the best source you can have here on Wikipedia - it's not the worst, but it's not great. Such sources will not demonstrate that this subject is notable. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 14:03, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

95% in here is without ANY source. next 4% is with a bad one. And 1% with a more or less simular. The best 1%. The IDEA of wikipedia and secondary sources is exactly this. A team of journalists is ready to publish it. Peer-reviewed. In this case. 3 teams of 3 newspapers. Great, good.. 2A02:1210:16F3:8E00:E532:807A:AF34:B117 (talk) 14:27, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Help us clean up content that doesn't meet current standards - don't add more. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 14:30, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It is very sad to see that it seems to be widespread here that many prefer to write 30 lines to complain, criticize, demand, make themselves important, etc., instead of working together and writing just one line to help, improve, or participate constructively. Firstly, it is clearly relevant. Anyone with some knowledge can see it immediately. Secondly, it is not the task to delete something but to improve according to the rules. Deleting or preventing is reserved for exceptional cases. For example, if it were a WordPress blog that was opened last week. Thirdly, it is simply logical. There is no need to verify it. It can be assumed that European/German-speaking newspapers will inevitably have to cite the local newspaper in 30 years when it comes to matters from that region. And if one is so skeptical and capable of using Google, one can find 10 such examples in a minute. All of this is not particularly inviting for people to contribute here.

It seems like we have done everything in vain. These 100,000 completely meaningless and unnecessary characters we have all written. For nothing. For a small, tiny, clearly relevant article that will probably never go online. Brilliant! Let us burn some more time..2A02:1210:16F3:8E00:AC9D:F63E:432E:A6ED (talk) 04:28, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cybercriminality[edit]

Dear People of the Wikipedia Internation Community,

I suggest You to Investage the situation of Finnish Wikipedia´s digital spaces for the reputation of Wikipedia int.

One can suspect the software manipulations, erasing information with other kinds of database sabotages, especially, during these times of the Russian attack war in Ukraine.

For such technologies all you need is some extra codes into open source software and the tech crimes will continue.

It is important to research the lokidata (IP-addressess) as well as to investigate the user partnership networks concerning the usernames such as:

- Jähmefyysikko

- Stryx

- Lax

- Linkkebar

- Huusmik

- Nitraus

There are serious lost of information, targeting, perhaps even unlawful theft of information plus very dirty manipulations and tricks going on. Cyberbullying or cyberharassment or pejorative labels are the most common forms and have become increasingly usual with the negative reach for they involv repeated behavior with intent to harm other daily users.

The computer criminality in Wikipedia Finland poses real risks to Wikipedia community with the reputation plus quality damages.

One can suspect for installing malware or spyware to manipulate data with articles of the system. It needed to remember that cyberterrorism are acts of terrorism, for example - programming illigal scripts - can all be forms of cyberterrorism.

The questions / reclamations from the Wikipedia Finnish dashboard and community portal will be lost and deleted within minutes.

So, resolution urgently needed, but without the help from the Wikipedia´s international internet community, it will hard or even impossible to get.

Sincerely,

--Atlas Kartasto (talk) 10:02, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You are at English Wikipedia. English Wikipedia has no standing or authority at Finnish Wikipedia: they are separate projects with their own rules and governance.
I believe the only body who might be able to get involved is the m:Stewards, but I am not familiar enough with their responsibilities and policies to know for sure. ColinFine (talk) 10:11, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have posted on "time Ball". please help me[edit]

but I have this on Ref.20a "Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page). I haven't a clue as to what it means - I also have a jpg to put on the page ?? Commander768 (talk) 10:15, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Commander768 I have reverted your additions. You placed the new content in the wrong place. In a moment I'll check whether what you added was useful and insert it correctly if it was. Then I'll contact you via your Talk Page to continue to offer help. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:37, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine Mike, I have sent the info to the webmaster as well. Commander768 (talk) 12:29, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Uploaded my photo[edit]

How to upload my photo Dr Safat Khan(Goldmedialist) (talk) 15:41, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You can make a request at Files for upload for non-free images or use the same username and password you have here to upload free images at Wikimedia Commons. However, if you are onlky here to write a "profile page" about yourself, I have to tell you that that is explicitly not what Wikipedia is for and any such material can be deleted at any time. Beeblebrox (talk) 15:43, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It *says* collapsed...[edit]

When I scroll to the bottom of toroidal solenoid there is a section about other fusion experiments. On my display, the box is always show open, in spite of the wiki text being:

{{fusion experiments|state=collapsed}}

Does everyone else see it the same way, that is, expended by default? Maury Markowitz (talk) 19:17, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Maury Markowitz Actually, it has state core|autocollapse, which according to the documentation at {{navbox}} will only collapse if there are two or more collapsible elements on the same page, which is not the case on that article. Mike Turnbull (talk) 19:25, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Nice article! Mike Turnbull (talk) 19:27, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Maury Markowitz: The code in {{fusion experiments}} said state = {{{state core|autocollapse}}} but that was an error. I have changed it to state = {{{state|autocollapse}}}.[1]. The call in Toroidal solenoid works now. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:00, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter: Thanks, looks great! Maury Markowitz (talk) 12:42, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Logo in the infobox needs to be changed[edit]

My company (Matheson - compressed gas company) has an OUTDATED logo in the info box.

I tried to login with my old account (g***). But that account was not recognized (presumably due to inactivity). So I set up a new account (G***).

My account is not of the status "autoconfirmed" - because I have not reached the thresholds of 4 days old AND 10 edits. These thresholds are required for autoconfirmed status, and autoconfirmed status is required to upload a logo to "infobox company." Is I can wait for 4 days, but what am I supposed to do about the 10 edits? Gasman2001 (talk) 19:34, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Whilst you're waiting, have a read of WP:COI and WP:PAID. The preferred way would be to request the edit on the talk page for the relevant article. As an employee you MUST make the declarations required by WP:PAID and you are strongly requested not to edit the article directly due to a COI. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 19:46, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Gasman2001, your edit here appears to be the only one that you have done. Is the new logo the one with "ask"? Let me know when you can upload it and I'll make the change to the article, if you wish. (And I personally have treated updating of logos to be "barely" COI/PAID personally, though other users disagree.) (And I've seen requests like this "answered" by users who basically do the upload and make the change, so maybe you'll get lucky there.)Naraht (talk) 19:56, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Gasman2001 Accounts don't become unrecognized owing to inactivity, so your earlier account should be on this list. If you can remember its password, you should be able to log on again if you wish (or get the option to reset the password if it had an associated email). It's perfectly OK to have two accounts, with certain provisions explained at WP:VALIDALT. Mike Turnbull (talk) 19:58, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
