March 21[edit]

Bare Ref[edit]

Can someone convert this bare ref [1] to a proper one? I think it is kinda tough to convert this one. GreenishPickle! (🔔) 05:01, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Cite journal seems appropriate. Is this CLEI or some other CLEI? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:32, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
journal=CLEI Electronic Journal | volume=22 | number=2 | date=August 2019 | title=Female representation in video games | first1=Paula | last1=Casagrande Bristot and so on for the other authors, via=Researchgate, etc. But I'm no expert on Brazilian people's names; ideally you should ask a Lusophone person to advise you on which are "first" and which are "last" names. -- Hoary (talk) 08:33, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Gråbergs Gråa Sång Tbh, I have no Idea and this is literally my first time citing a journal article, but I actually copy pasted what Hoary said. I'm not 100% sure, but I think I made it properly now [2] Thanks for the help Hoary.~ GreenishPickle! (🔔) 09:50, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Greenish Pickle! That article has a digital object identifier. Hence the very useful Wikipedia WP:Citation expander gadget will create the reference directly. According to that the citation should be like this.[1] The strange translation of the title is what Clei themselves use, although the underlying .pdf is in English with the title that Hoary quoted! Adding |doi-access=free is all that is needed in addition. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:10, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Need help to put company page here[edit]

I need help to put a company page on Wikipedia. The submission keeps getting rejected due to low reference links.

Need some suggestions on what kind of reference links are needed for the listing to be approved Cheryl Fernandes89 (talk) 11:29, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

First, if you work for this company, the Terms of Use require you to disclose that, see WP:PAID; please also read conflict of interest.
We don't have "company pages" here. We have articles about topics, including companies. These articles summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about a company, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable company. These sources should not be press releases, staff interviews, announcement of routine business activities, brief mentions, or other primary sources. What sources do you have? 331dot (talk) 11:35, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why did the user undo the edits and mark them as unconstructive?[edit]

Yesterday, Vaughan Gething was confirmed as leader of the Welsh Government.

The page was updated to reflect the change of leadership.

However, the revision was immediately undone. The editor that undid the revision states: "…[the contribution] did not appear constructive"

What does the editor mean by that? The revision was made to reflect a real world event and a citation was given. What should have been done to ensure the revision was made without being undone? HandsGlue (talk) 11:44, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@HandsGlue: Looks like just a mistake. Unavoidably, they sometimes happen. Apologies, if the IP that made the edit was you. Tollens (talk) 11:56, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@HandsGlue: Have you asked the editor that did the reversion. They have a talk page, or you could start a discussion on the article's talk page. Use {{reply to}} or similar to attract the editor's attention. Bazza 7 (talk) 12:09, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
They pinged the editor by linking to their user page in their question above (whether they intended to or not, I don't know, though). Tollens (talk) 12:11, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The revert was possibly a question of timing per Wikipedia:Not a crystal ball, but it should have explained what the problem was. Also, the title of the reference used was "Vaughan Gething to become next first minister of Wales after winning Welsh Labour leadership race" so it didn't confirm that the event had actually happened. Permanent delection for all the information related to Morgan Hermand Waiche[edit]

Good morning editors, I have been trying to contact you through different ways regarding to a permanent removal from your website. We want all the information regarding Morgan Hermand Waiche to be removed from your website. As you can control the new information added we don't want to have future posts regarding this matter either. Can you help me with this or tell me how to escalate this claim? thank you in advance.AngelamL (talk) 15:40, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The only reference I can find about this individual is at Adore Me, which a person by that name founded. It's extremely unlikely that the founder of a notable company would be removed from an article, and no one can guarantee no one else on this planet will add information about him. 331dot (talk) 15:44, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) For what reason do you purport to represent him, and why does he want to not be described as the founder of his company? 331dot (talk) 15:47, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can't see any other information about him anywhere, and who is "we" exactly? Theroadislong (talk) 15:46, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AngelamL There is a lot more information about him from a simple Google search, including his own Linkedin profile. Wikipedia has much less about him than is freely available elsewhere and I don't see any policy-related reason to delete what is here. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:54, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just removed his birthday date and age. Which is what he is asking for. We (Adore Me). As I'm representing him in this matter. Thank you in advance for answering my request that fast. AngelamL (talk) 16:01, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Where did you do this? Your edit history only has your edits to this page. If you are employed by him or his company, the Terms of Use require disclosure, see WP:PAID. 331dot (talk) 16:02, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Where do I have to do this? I asked to the email you have for information requests directly. AngelamL (talk) 16:11, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You make the paid disclosure on your user page(click your username to go there).
There is no article on the English Wikipedia with his personal information. Are you observing it on Google? 331dot (talk) 16:15, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's not about him not representing Adore me is about his personal information (Birthday date and age) AngelamL (talk) 15:54, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What article does his personal information appear in? I don't see it in Adore Me, but I may have missed it. 331dot (talk) 15:57, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Which Wikipedia page includes that information, AngelamL? What is your relationship with him? Cullen328 (talk) 15:58, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
E/C Those details are NOT on Wikipedia, I guess you are looking at what Google provides, Wikipedia has no control over that. Theroadislong (talk) 16:00, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The article in question has not been edited since November 12, 2023, so you could not have just removed that information. Cullen328 (talk) 16:06, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have been trying since 2 weeks ago! And every time it appeared again! That's why I'm asking for your help. Hopefully this time it's going to work! AngelamL (talk) 16:15, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AngelamL As you have already been told, the information exists in Google search, and possibly elsewhere but is not here in Wikipedia. You must take up your concerns with them, not us. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:23, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
User:AngelamL, please listen to what everyone here is saying: the Adore Me article is the only one on the English Wikipedia site that even mentions "Morgan Hermand Waiche", and that article does not have the birthday. The account "AngelamL" has not edited that article ever. Looking at that article history, I cannot find that it has ever listed a birthday. The only thing the English Wikipedia controls is English Wikipedia site itself, not other wikipedia sites (French Wikipedia, for example) and not search engines like Google. There is nothing related to English /wikipedia at issue here, so we cannot help you. DMacks (talk) 16:23, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morgan_Hermand-Waiche the information was here not at Adore Me post. AngelamL (talk) 16:29, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You will have to take your concern up with French Wikipedia directly. They are independent of us for content and editorial purposes. DMacks (talk) 16:37, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@DMacks It seems that @AngelamL is also referring to this edit to Wikidata. I have no knowledge of whether this is policy-compliant. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:29, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I saw that edit, and a similar one to frwiki (is why I had mentioned that site specifically). Who's Who is often considered unreliable for enwiki, but I do not know about wikidata or frwiki. But enwiki does not pull the birthday from wikidata, so I don't see the enwiki angle. DMacks (talk) 16:35, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I didn't know I have to adress the matter to the Fr wikipedia. AngelamL (talk) 16:41, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. To be clear, every different-language Wikipedia is an independent project, each has its own, often different policies and guidelines, and none has any authority over any other. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 51.241.39.117 (talk) 08:10, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Public publishing[edit]

Hello,

Can someone help me publish my first article? TheConsultant360 (talk) 16:18, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the information so you can submit it. First, I see your name is "The Consultant"; if you work for this person, the Terms of Use require you to disclose that, WP:PAID. 331dot (talk) 16:22, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I am the owner of this username TheConsultant360 (talk) 16:23, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just submitted the article, it's in the review queue, thank you so much for your help! TheConsultant360 (talk) 16:31, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@TheConsultant360 You have placed all the citations in a heap at the foot of the draft. By policy, citations for biographies of living people have to be placed inline, so at present the draft will rapidly be declined. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:37, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
yes this is what happened unfortunately, I am new to this , thank you for the clarification Mike TheConsultant360 (talk) 16:47, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, TheConsultant360. If you were starting to learn engineering, would you make your first project to build a car from scratch? If you took up a musical instrument, would you arrange a public recital as the first thing you did? No, you would practise on less demanding projects while you learnt the craft.
I would very strongly advise you that you will save yourself a great deal of frustration and disappointment if you forget about creating a new article for several months, while you gradually learn about how Wikipedia works (and most particularly about Verifiability, reliable sources, and Neutral point of view) by making improvements to some of our six million existing articles.. Replacing picture[edit]

I tried editing one of your sites by replacing an incorrect picture with the correct one and all I ended up doing is removing the incorrect one. I cannot seem to add the new picture. Is there someone that can help me? Possibly step by step since this is my first time editing a picture. Thank you, Diana Gomez Sandyiego23 (talk) 16:44, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sandyiego23 See my reply at WP:Teahouse#Replace_picture. Please don't ask in two places as this just wastes people's time. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:51, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Sandyiego23. Please don't post the same question in multiple places. I see there is a reply at the Teahouse. ColinFine (talk) 16:51, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Commons Autoconfirmed topicon[edit]

I have created the Template:Commons Autoconfirmed topicon, however the image doesn't seem to render. I have checked it on Wikipedia and it is there, so I don't know why it doesn't work. Can someone please help me? Thank you! 2003 LN6 16:52, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

2003 LN6, you specified the |imagename= parameter as File:Commons Autoconfirmed.svg, but apparently {{top icon}} automatically fills in the File: part. I've removed that and it seems to work now. Rummskartoffel 17:43, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! 2003 LN6 (talk) 18:29, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edits[edit]

Hello, on my phone, on the bottom of articles where you can see when the most recent edit was performed, if it was performed in less than 24 hours, there would be green behind the text, however, just a few minutes ago i noticed that the background it now blue, is there some fixing going on? NerdyLazar (talk) 20:31, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@NerdyLazar: Do you refer to a page like https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marita_Kramer viewed in a browser on the phone? I see the colors in Last edited 6 minutes ago by Sporti. It looks green to me. https://chir.ag/projects/name-that-color/#00AF89 calls it Persian Green approx.. PrimeHunter (talk) 08:05, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh it switched back to green NerdyLazar (talk) 12:18, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Templates[edit]

Hi, I haven't asked any questions to the help desk for almost two months now and, as I wrote on my user page, I plan to do no more than one a month and, above all, not to bother. In the bocconcini article, I'm undecided whether to leave the "More footnotes" template or add the "Refimprove" template: same for antipasto; which is the best of these two templates for both pages? JacktheBrown (talk) 23:24, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

{{More citations needed}} is when there is a bunch of uncited content in general (a page-wide tag rather than adding tons of {{cn}} tags to specific sentences). {{More footnotes needed}} is when there is uncited content but general refs are present (a loose list rather than footnotes). The thinking is that the refs do support at least some of the content, and someone could check the refs and convert them to footnotes for the specific content they support rather than having to look up everything from scratch.
