This peer review discussion has been closed.
As this seems to be the latest fashion in football lists, I've adopted the basic Aston Villa format as enhanced to FL standard at Ipswich Town. The objective is to get this one to featured list, so I'd be grateful for whatever improvements or corrections you can suggest to get it there.     • thanks for reminding me, I wrote it the other day and forgot to upload it... duh
  • Maybe you could note how Birmingham qualified for the European comps each season, like in the Ipswich article?
    • maybe I could... while BCFC were still in it, it was city-based and entry was still by invitation, and I believe we kept getting invited while we were successful and as soon as we weren't, the invitations stopped, certainly we got a bye through the first round in 1962 because of being runners-up the previous year... sources is another matter. I'll see what the book says. Thanks for mentioning it, because that definitely came up at the Ipswich FLC so probably would again. done

Great stuff, few minor things..

  • I was reminded that the article on silverware discusses FA or League Cup for English football, not the Ipswich Hospital Cup nor the Walsall Cup! I decided to change from silverware, it's a minor point though.
    • not so. It says "In English football, silverware is used to describe one of the cup trophies (of which the main two are the FA Cup and the Football League Cup) or the championship trophies awarded for winning one of the leagues." The Walsall Cup and indeed the Ipswich Hospital Cup are two of the many, many bits of English football silverware of which the main two are the FA and League Cups.
  • The ordering of honours surprises me, I would have had euro first, domestic cups second, league third, war league fourth but again it's subjective I suppose.
    • As you say, subjective.
  • I think there's a specific article for the Ireland national football team (pre-1953 or something close to that...)
    • thanks, I always get that one wrong.
  • "fee of £1 million or more" - I would have used a fee of at least £1m.
    • so would I.
  • "but VAT and the transfer levy raised the total payable to £1.18m" very interesting! Can you cite it?
    • it's included in the book citation after the next sentence, but I've added an online one as well.
  • I'm guessing you don't like centrally aligned columns, but I've got the notes columns centrally aligned. Your call.
    • changed. I usually do have notes columns centred.
  • Division wikilinking in the Club records section isn't consistent.
    • I know. I was torn between linking them all thereby painting the whole section blue, not linking anything on the assumption there's plenty more links to all those things lying about if anybody wanted one, and compromised on linking first use in each small section, which is a mess and looks inconsistent even if it possibly isn't. Could try linking just the first use in the whole Club records section. What would you advise?
      • Well I'd make a choice as to which level heading you'd consider a represent a new section and then wikilink only the first instance in that section.   • In Match firsts, you link the league but not the FA Cup etc. Any reason?
    • Might have been, can't remember. Linked cups now, though not First European match, because the only sensible thing to link it to would be UEFA#Competitions and UEFA are insistent these days that the ICFC is nothing to do with them :-)
  • Is semifinal really one word? Perhaps..
  • Ah, your Euro table has centrally aligned notes. Now then. Consistency throughout the article?
    • The whole of that table's centrally aligned. If you want consistency, you'd do better asking if there's a reason for centralising the club names :-)
