April 12[edit]

The Beatles live footage[edit]

Seeing the enormous amount of live performances of the Beatles on Youtube, I was wondering where they come from.

I'm wanting to purchase a DVD boxset that would contain many of these performances, but haven't really encountered what I'm looking for.

I looked at the Beatles Anthology DVD boxset, some live footages seem to be present but (apparently) not at all as much as I'd like.

Thanks --Xedi 01:08, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Beatles' official catalogue is a bit of a mess, thanks to protracted legal negotiations over this, that and the other. You're right, there's not an awful lot of official live video footage been released. If the stuff you're looking for is not officially released, though, you can almost certainly get hold of it through filesharing (principally torrent) sites. We wouldn't want to direct you to those because they may contain copyright material. --Richardrj talk email 05:11, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Am I right in thinking that as of today, when the disputes about royalties finally came to an end, that a lot of this stuff will begin to be released? Capuchin 06:56, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I begin to see their live catalogue is a real mess. But, even though, the videos must be available to purchase somewhere (the torrents didn't come from nowhere). Any ideas of what DVDs give a quite complete collection of live performances ? I'm not looking for any lives in particular, I'd just like as much as possible... I tried looking with keywords (live at Shea, live at Paris, ...), sometimes I find a complete DVD just for that performance (like for the Shea live), but most of the time I don't find anything (or just an audio CD).
Oh well. Hopefully, as Capuchin says, maybe all this will begin to be released, and I really hope something will come out that will regroup most of the Beatles live performances.
Thanks. --Xedi 12:42, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Peace 2[edit]

I remember back in the 70's while in music class my teacher was teaching us about moog / synthesizer music, and she played an LP, and one of the tracks on it was titled Peace 2 (or 3?), What I recall of this album is that it was part of a set, I believe it was 3 albums total, after all this time I still remember that one particular track. I was hoping that perhaps you could help me in locating it, or give me further guidance on where else I can search.

my sincere thanks to you

John McLaughlin's My Goals Beyond (June 1970) has tracks called Peace one and Peace Two [1]. His music is described as jazz fusion, but his Mahavishnu Orchestra had Jan Hammer on Moog synthesizer, so that might be what you are looking for. Rockpocket 07:56, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

editing "Russian-Americans"[edit]

Hi, I would like to add the name of Michael Chekhov to the list of Russian- Americans, but do not see how it is possible. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Leto61 (talkcontribs) 22:11, 12 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I added him to Category:Russian immigrants to the United States, which is included in all of the following categories: Category:Russian-Americans, Category:Russian emigrants, Category:Immigrants to the United States, and Category:Russian expatriates in the United States. That covers it. − Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 22:46, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Artist bio[edit]

April 12, 2007

Dear Wikipedia,

I have been unsuccessful in trying to get my professional artist bio online with you. I have created and account and password, and created an artist bio. I am an international recording artist and need your assistance in accomplishing this. I also want to link to my professional artist website. Please send help and an urgent response. Thankyou Karen Email to: <removed email address>

We generally discourage people from writing articles about themselves, as they tend to be highly biased in their favor (see Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest#Self-promotion). Also, only "notable" (famous) artists are eligible to have articles here. Do you think you qualify under this WP:NOTABILITY policy ? StuRat 00:52, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you think you qualify, have a friend write something about you, including any relevant published citations. Then others will come along and expand and improve the article. JackofOz 05:26, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Having a friend do it for you is not a good idea as they are usually can't write nuetrally about their friends. - Mgm|(talk) 09:52, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, this is a wiki, after all. Any posts to articles that are not NPOV or lack citations are usually quickly detected and rendered harmless. If we take this policy to its nth degree, nobody could ever do anything to influence anybody else at all, not even a randomly chosen passing stranger, to write an article about them. They just have to wait until someone, somewhere, sometime decides entirely on their own initiative to sit down and start a stub about them. That's crazy. People have been whispering in other people's ears since time immemorial, so let's recognise that's the way the world works. JackofOz 16:03, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Have a look at WP:MUSIC and make sure you cover any of the points that are applicable to you in the article. Also, make sure anything you write can be verified using reliable sources (books, newspapers, magazine articles, etc about you). Personal knowledge is not a source articles can be based on. Finally, take a look at WP:COI to avoid common pitfalls. WP:TUT and WP:YFA may also be useful. - Mgm|(talk) 09:52, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • The ban on personal knowledge seems a bit silly in a case like this. Does she have to submit a birth certificate to prove her birth date ? StuRat 14:20, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Being as how she wasn't cognizant at the time of her birth, declaring her own DOB would be OR. Corvus cornix 15:55, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
But if she can cite a published source that gives the birth date, that would be OK. JackofOz 15:10, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose she will need to get expert testimony to establish her gender, as we certainly can't take her word on it, can we ? :-) StuRat 03:13, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
