20 year old computer game with drones battling[edit]

I remember playing a PC game briefly years ago whose name I cannot remember. This game was was released in the late 1990s or early 2000s. It was a fighting game where the player and AI factions had bases (or was it motherships? I can't remember correctly) on the map. The player and AI could send out a selection of both ground-based and airborne drones from their base to attack the other faction. The ground based drones were like tanks. The player could control one of these drones manually, and rapidly switch from command of one drone to another as desired. The other drones that weren't under the player's direct control had to be given orders. The graphics were something similar to the game Incoming (1998 video game). I played it on PC, I am not sure whether it was PC only or also available on other platforms. Does anyone have any idea what this game might have been?--Testing questions (talk) 03:39, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What you're describing does not sound like a Fighting game at all (fighting games are games like Mortal Kombat or Tekken, they don't have bases, maps, or multiple units). What you're describing sounds more like a Real-time strategy game (possibly with elements of a flight simulator or ). I can only surmise that you mean that it had polygon-based graphics instead of sprite-based graphics and that direct control of an individual unit was a noted feature within the game. You might want to check our article List of real-time strategy video games. Ian.thomson (talk) 03:55, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think the game was real time strategy because I don't remember any base building. The bases were a single structure. I don't even remember if it was a structure. It may have been a large landed or hovering spacecraft. Or not. I forget. I don't know how the resource system worked.--Testing questions (talk) 04:25, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to Ian's link to List of real-time strategy video games I have found the game I am looking for. It is Urban Assault. Thank you for the help Ian.--Testing questions (talk) 04:32, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Holy nostalgia, Batman. I had completely forgotten about that game. clpo13(talk) 16:12, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
