The Divisional Cavalry Regiment was a New Zealand regiment active during the Second World War. It was New Zealand's first armored unit, formed in September 1939 after the country entered the Second World War. After being sent to Egypt with the 2nd New Zealand Division, the regiment deployed to Greece as part of W Force, the British contingent sent to defend the country from Nazi Germany in March 1941. The regiment was scattered during retreat from Greece, with most of it ending up in Crete, where it was evacuated after a German paratroop attack in May. Its men fought in Operation Crusader and spent a brief interlude in Syria before engaging in the First Battle of El Alamein, during which it received Stuart tanks (pictured). They fought in the Second Battle of El Alamein, at El Agheila, and at the Mareth Line. After the German retreat from Tunisia it was sent to Italy with the division in September. The regiment fought in the Italian Campaign from that time. In October 1944, the regiment was reorganized into an infantry battalion, fighting until the end of the war in Europe in spring 1945. After the end of the Second World War, the battalion became a regiment of J Force, the New Zealand contribution to the occupation of Japan, and was disbanded in September 1947. (Full article...)

Oppose. Needs work from nominator, esp in terms of a blurb ce. There is a lot of repetition of terms and countries (Have done my best on the blurb, the article is another matter. "(pictured)" is way too low in the text. Ceoil (talk) 09:29, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Just a note that November will already have 5 MilHist articles, at least, so I can't use this one in November. (I prefer to pick articles that have a date connection, so sometimes I don't have a choice about these things.) Chris may be able to use it for December. The fact that it made it through A-class and FAC recently is a good sign; I'm guessing any flaws are fixable. Don't worry about the TFA text ... I'm happy to rewrite that as needed ... but if there's repetition in the article, yes, please work on that. - Dank (push to talk) 14:23, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
