September 5[edit]

I wrote an article on the novel The Bottoms by Joe R. Lansdale and copied and pasted it to articles for creation. It now warns there is an article with the same name. I think it's the original I already wrote. I'm learning as I go. PKDASD 00:37, 5 September 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by PKDASD (talkcontribs)

You are correct, an essential identical version is in article space as The Bottoms (novel). Do you have any objection to the AfC draft being deleted? While I'm at it, I will link to the articel from Joe R. Lansdale DES (talk) 01:29, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No I have no problem with that at all. Thanks for your help. PKDASD 01:42, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
Pleased to be of help. By the way, indent paragraphs on the wiki with leading colons, not spaces. Leading spaces are used for non-wrapped text such as computer code. A bit confusing, i know. DES (talk) 01:53, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Deletion done. Edit the article linked above for further changes. DES (talk) 01:57, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I managed to get a source for the photograph on the Marthovounos Cyprus page "Marathovounos from a British helicopter in 1950's" that I have added to. Can someone look at it please and make sure that it conforms to what needs to be done. Also I am having problems getting the references to show. I have tried almost everything. Any help will be appreciated. With many thanks. Christos Evangeli — Preceding unsigned comment added by Christos Evangeli (talkcontribs) 05:57, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Strictly speaking, you should post questions like this on the article's talk page or at the main help desk. This page is for help with the articles for creation process, a method to assist users with creating new articles for wikipedia.
However, I will take a look at Marathovounos and see if I can assist you. DES (talk) 06:46, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a place to advertise your product or company. If you own the patent, your editing or creating an article promoting the product is a huge potential conflict of interest. That said, the images you propose are likely not suitable as files for upload as Wikipedia only accepts uploads which are free of any copyright or under certain specific, very unrestrictive free licenses (such as CC-BY or CC-BY-SA). The use of these materials is also not a substitute for relying on neutral and reliable sources as they are self-published by someone with a product to sell. K7L (talk) 15:45, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am not trying to promote as I have a site and marketing etc, I wanted this entry as a new tool something never done before hence the patent isn't this a real encyclopedia that is a reference for knowledge you have person of public interest, other patents which all fall into promoting. I gave you the web address for your use not to be included in listing the directions in entry are from the patent papers, not marketing material. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dragon25121972 (talkcontribs) 17:53, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Editor's comment in Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Zhaga Consortium says he wants 'non-specialist' news coverage to establish notability. I'm unclear how general the sources must be, I've included links to magazines for lighting professionals by an independent business publisher. Would an electronics trade publication (e.g EE Times) still be considered too specialized? --Burt Harris 16:06, 5 September 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Burt Harris (talkcontribs)

It looks like there are some sources so the topic is likely a valid one. When attempting to establish notability, over-reliance on press releases is problematic as they are self-published by marketers and manufacturers with no real subsequent editorial controls. Anything that isn't just a reprint of factory advertising should be OK? K7L (talk) 17:25, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
