Wikipedia:WikiProject Lepidoptera/Indian butterflies
The Indian butterflies wikibase deals with approximately 1000 Indian butterflies and is an ongoing project. The aim of the wikibase is to form a useful resource for the global public, in general, and amateur Indian naturalists, in particular. The articles authored for this project are named on the basis of the scientific names of the species they describe.

This endeavour is being supported by a number of well-wishers who have donated images, guidance, resources and information. On the Wikipedia, many editors have shown interest and expressed support for this endeavour. Wikipedian Santosh Namby Chandran has contributed several photographs to this list
Progress so far[edit]
Lists have been started for all families.
- Papilionidae - Swallowtail Butterflies (84 species). List fairly stable. All stubs made.
- Pieridae - Yellow-White Butterflies (81 species) List fairly stable. All stubs made.
- Nymphalidae- Brush-Footed Butterflies (480 species) List under development.
- Lycaenidae- Blues, hairstreaks and Gossamer-Winged Butterflies (318 species). List fairly stable. Stubs under preparation.
- Riodinidae - Punches & Judies (16 species) List fairly stable. All stubs made.
- Hesperiidae - Skipper Butterflies (307 species)
The family or subfamily-wise state of photos for wikis of Indian butterflies are given below. You are requested to contribute photos.

Requests have been made in butterflyIndia yahoo group for images from members for Family Papilionidae. Members have responded very positively to this appeal.
