First India Campus Ambassadors trained in Pune[edit]

Pune Campus Ambassadors

The pilot project to bring Wikipedia editing into university classrooms in India is now underway. In June, the Wikimedia Foundation's Frank Schulenburg and Annie Lin traveled to Pune, India, to meet with professors at six universities. Campus Ambassador PJ Tabit joined Frank and Annie, and they led a two-day training for new Campus Ambassadors in Pune. The pilot will begin with 10 professors participating, and we're eager to see how the work of the Public Policy Initiative translates to a different country. Meet the new Campus Ambassadors by watching this video.

Blog post recaps Public Policy Initiative[edit]

All told, Public Policy Initiative students contributed the equivalent of more than 5,800 pages worth of content to the English Wikipedia article namespace over the two semesters. This fact and other accomplishments are highlighted in a academic year wrap-up blog post on the Wikimedia Foundation's blog. Additionally, two students, Patrick Friedel and Kasey Baker, were profiled on the blog. Read the spring wrap-up piece.

Public Policy Initiative student achieves GA[edit]

Louisiana State University student Emily Holden just graduated with a degree in political communication -- and she's also notched a Good Article on Wikipedia. Emily wrote the article on the Minimum Foundation Program as a student in Robert Mann's class at LSU, which was participating in the Public Policy Initiative. Emily created the article from scratch for class and, with the help of Online Ambassador Guerillero, brought it through the rigorous Good Article process on Wikipedia. Read Emily's article.

Creative Commons Salon panel

Public Policy Initiative Research Analyst Amy Roth joined Wikimedians Pete Forsyth and Felipe Ortega as part of a Creative Commons Salon panel in San Francisco on June 13. Amy talked about the preliminary results from the Public Policy Initiative, and Pete and Felipe discussed other ways to incorporate Wikipedia into digital education. In addition to short presentations, the panelists answered questions from the audience. Read more about the Creative Commons Salon and watch a video of the event.
