Fixed - rev 1443. Added check on return from recategorise if general fixes is not checked, it will run the 'fix categories', that would be run if general fixes was enabled. Then meaning the categories are put into the correct place. Reedy Boy 08:43, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Need "date=" in tags

Description The "wikify" and "uncat" tags that AWB inserts, either automatically or in the "Insert tag" menu, need "date =" before the date. Otherwise the templates appear goofy. See this [2] revision to see what the wikify tag looks like without the date=. Fabrictramp 18:38, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

First letter capitalisation of both words of binomial species names in italics

Status Not a bug in AWB, has been referred
Description Changes a species binomial (two words) name to the two words with the first letters both capitalised. These are often in italics, and the first word is capitalised, but the second is not. AWB suggests that both words are capitalised. Snowman 21:10, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

"Links" entry in article stats is incorrect

What do you mean the latest? As the SVN version works and counts correctly - in the AWB Sandbox, i have 4 links, 1 cat, 1 image and 1 iw... It counts them right. I do remember myself and Martinp23 fiddling around with the links thing, as we did realise it didnt work properly. But i cant remember if that was before or after the last release... Log LED sticks on green

Yes I know, I already had a breakpoint there but didn't get any further (connection problems caused by the terrible weather haven't helped :)). If you're finishing off that bot job some time over the weekend perhaps you'd breakpoint at if (BusyCounter == 0) too. Enabling use of other skins

Status Not a bug/currently unresolvable
Description As far as I know AWB does not permit the use of skins other than monobook. What's worse it hangs with out explanation to the user when monobook is not the selected skin. It would also be nice if there was a skin override in AWB using &useskin= in the URL. Dispenser 23:22, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, I couldn't reproduce the hangup, but I simply added appropriate check on login, so now AWB refuses to work gracefully in such cases. MaxSem 12:29, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

I just tested with the SVN rev 1364 using IE 6.02900.3132. And I can't get the contents of templates load with skins: Classic, Cologne Blue, and Nostalgia. Though I can confirm it works with the others. I think the hangup happens on older versions. —Dispenser 15:39, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

    Could a stable version (ie. one of the 3.9.x branch versions) please stay enabled for at least as long as 4.0.0 is in beta? There are quite a few AWB bots out there that do a variety of things and if there's a bug, it would be good to have a fallback alternative. S up? 11:31, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Our reasoning for doing this, was that v3.9 could potentially do more damage than v4... Ie stuff fixed in v4, that are still there in v3.9, and v4 has functions that work in it that dont work with v3.9. Yeah, I guess you're right. It's just that my bot mainly does recategoritazation work and you know how the saying goes: never touch a running system (well, that, not feeling like messing with the XML files in case something breaks and good old fashioned laziness ;). Is there any way of leaving an old version enabled for bots whilst still nagging everyone else - ideally forcing everyone else - to upgrade? I'm not adverse to the idea provided it wouldn't prevent us migrating all manual users to v4 now. --kingboyk 16:29, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Im sure there was something like this in wikidiff that caused a problem before. I fixed one of them definately, but its cause its trying to convert nothing into a byte array, which caused an error...

The reason that it's not working is because the dot matching new lines is called singleline mode (it gets its name because the entire text is interpreted as a single line). Multiline mode is something else. —METS501 (talk) 22:46, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Cfd.dll not working

Description Yeah, me again, I'm afraid. ;) I've been really busy the last week and just now had a chance to play around with the alpha RC a bit more. And, strangely, it looks like the CFD plugin ceased to function altogether. It does load the categories' content just fine and it appears to be saving the changes (and they do appear under 'successfully saved' under the Logs tab) but it doesn't. They neither show up in the bot's contribs nor in the history of the article that was supposedly just saved. This appears to be reproduceable in manual mode where AWB doesn't show any changes in 'diff view'. S up? 20:42, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
To duplicate: The bot gets fed a list of cats (please see here for a real-life example). The article list looks fine and the bot appears to be saving the articles just fine, too (null edits?) but doesn't actually make any changes.

Not that I know of (I'm getting cache errors now but I wasn't then). I just reinstalled a XP SP2 system from scratch, hooked it up to the LAN, put Firefox stable on it and installed nothing but AWB (default config) and a few old and tried driver updates (plus, a not-so-ancient version of IE). And, since the reinstall, I haven't been able to reproduce this "bug" at all (*knock on wood*). Anyway, I still don't know what caused this but it's starting to look like this was a problem on my end (even though I was able to reproduce this on two separate machines) and, thus, the bug report is probably no Invalid. Please accept my apologies for causing such a ruckus. I'll see if I can figure out what caused this and if I can, I'll be sure to post an update (well, preferably, an update and a diff). At the moment, I'm running XP SP2, latest patches but I have access to pretty much every OS since the good old Windows 3.11 for Workgroup days (I do a lot of work with VMs). I think I should have Visual Studio somewhere, albeit I'm more of a Unix/networking guy. The strange thing is, it does look it's working some of the time. At first, I thought it had something to do with the "suppress 'using AWB' in edit summary" option but that wasn't it. And it doesn't have anything to with comments either, apparently (I just tested that including different line break configurations and excessively long comments). I noticed that there's a 'CFD plugin disabled' pop up that comes up (seemingly) at random and I have no clue what's causing it. I'll try to start over with a clean install, new XML files and a test account. Oh, and thanks again for your help. S up? 22:47, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

I get the "Page does not exist error" saying that a given page does not exist and I should make sure it is spelt correctly. It didn't happen for "what links here" before the update but I remember similar message for nonexistent categories. Jogers (talk) 11:05, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

The same is for me. On my 3.9 when I gor to start editing, A notice pops up and tells me I need to update to the newest version. I can still do it when I click 'No' and go to the website to download, but clicking 'yes' becomes a stopped download box as described above. Reywas92Talk 00:29, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
  • The version is 4.0.0 as beta as I already noted. It is failing as I described. I am asked nothing; the popup appears. If I ignore the popup, I can get into AWB and get to the point of START. Then, when I hit start, another popup appears with message: "the type initializer for WikiFunctions.WikiDiff threw an exception". AWB does no work; each time I hit Start, I get this message again. Logging upload glitch

No files should ever be written if logging isn't turned on, so in theory it already has "full disable". I've turned logging off by default - rev 1486. No logs being written or uploads happening if it's turned off, as far as I can tell. If you have evidence to the contrary please shout, as log uploading when turned off would be a serious bug :) Location on filesystem is determined by the settings in the "logging to file" tab.

Confirmed that "Allow AWB to override watchlist settings" was off (default) - consequently "Add all to watchlist" was being ignored. So it's not a programming bug, but I think it's a useability bug though - so I'd recommend one of the following:
  • "Add all to watchlist" to be greyed out whenever "Allow AWB to override watchlist settings" is false.
  • Remove "Allow AWB to override watchlist settings" option - treat it as always true rather than user-configurable.
  • Move "Add all to watchlist" to underneath (suboption of) "Allow AWB to override watchlist settings", on the principle that a more-visible option shouldn't require having to change a less-visible option in order to work.

Yes, I do have Noscript installed - good thinking, I didn't realise that would interfere. If I turn off the "Sanitize cross-site suspicious requests" option then everything works correctly (alternatively, Unsafe Reload loads the correct page). According to the console, the hash and numbers are coming from the sanitization. Not the nicest workaround but it works. Maybe time to add a list of incompatible software into WP:AWB? To duplicate: Try to set up AWB to edit Wikipedia through the secure server. You will find that this is impossible because AWB assumes the URL starts with "http://" when in this case it starts with "https://". AWB should just ask the user to type out "http://en.wikipedia.org/w/" instead of "en.wikipedia.org/w/". Then, if the user types "en.wikipedia.org/w/" anyway it's safe to assume they meant HTTP.

Diff scrolling

Newline bug #3

Description Saving a file and loading a file is now correct, and when editing the rules, also everything works as it should. But when the replacement of a rule has two lines, they actually come out as one line in the diff with a single-character newline inbetween. Rule 1: replace "\r\n\r\n\*" with one newline and an asterisk.

Formatting of the interface

You will note that one of the S/R specs is duplicated (but both are disabled): this was something odd that happened during an upgrade and I never got around to fixing it. I think it would be better to just remove it so that there is no sort key, unless a DEFAULTSORT exists which differs. Japanese interwiki link being put in the wrong position and then being replaced by another link

Description If an article has a Japanese interwiki link, it tries to put it after the links starting with N. And when I try to cancel the affected lines, it tries to replace the Japanese link with another link (usually the one directly above it). AWB "find" button doesn't work correctly

Description All 3.0 versions of AWB allowed you to search for a certain word in the edit box. It would highlight the first instance of that word, and you could fix the spelling. Then you could search for the next instance, and fix that, etc. It still works, IF the word only appears once in the text. If it appears more than once in the text, AWB doesn't seem to know what to do. It doesn't highlight the word, and just scrolls down to an area that may or may not have that word in the text. To duplicate: Do an AWB Google search for a popularly misspelled word or phrase (such as "to it's"). Run AWB. Put "it's" in the "find" box. Search for instances of "it's" in the text. If there is only one, AWB will find it and highlight it so it can be corrected. If there is more than one instance, AWB will become confused and highlight nothing.

Yes, I am sure. I've just found that it works OK on higher screen resolutions. On 600x800, it WILL highlight the word, but the word will be off-screen.   • It works when you add "Infobox Album <!-- See Wikipedia:WikiProject_Albums -->" instead of "Infobox Album" to the "Catch Template" list. It means that AWB treats the comment as a part of the template name.

Yeah, sorry, I should have made myself more clear. The issue is that the plugin adds a category it didn't remove (one, that's in fact not even in the article to begin with) to the 'A → B' part of the edit summary (ie. the part that's added by the plugin). For instance in the diff I linked to above, it was removing Category:Occupation films with the edit summary 'removed Category:Signatory of "A Scientific Dissent From Darwinism", removed Category:Occupation films' (I assume Category:Signatory of "A Scientific Dissent From Darwinism" was the cat right before or after Category:Occupation films in the listing.) --S up? 16:02, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

I've improved error handling in rev 1595, so we'll be able to track exceptions to their source more easily. due to newbiness on sourceforge and compilation i thought i was making a mistake so i waited for the release (4.0.0.0 in this case). Also one of our issues was that we did not have install the API.php and Query.phph (that we now have install)

I got near instant response of Mets501 but the correction wa only 1 of the problems.

Memory

Status Bug currently being investigated/fixed
Description AWB's memory (RAM) use grows exponentially during a bot run. Within minutes, it was up to 1.3 GB of RAM, and it's starting to push my computer to it's limits. Just to see, I'm going to let it keep growing to see if it will eventually stop or whether it will crash the computer eventually (I've only got 2 gigs of RAM). We'll see! Something needs to be done about this... I am now also seeing memory issues. I did not see this with the official 4.0.0.0 release, but I am seeing it with the SVN that I got from Reedy. Note, I use XP, not Vista. Huge amounts of memory get consumed to the point that all other processing on my PC will stop and I will need to exit AWB. Sometimes, I will actually have to use the task manager to kill it because the memory will take a very long time to release and actually shut down the application. No need to be sorry, you are probably right. Visual studio can build in 2 modes - debug and release mode. Debug used for debugging purposes, slightly larger file sizes, release are smaller. We'll just have to keep an aye on it. MaxSem said something about the way i changed the MetaDataSorter may be loading it multiple times... Increasing the memory. Focus lost on loading article

Thanks for following up on this issue. I think that the focus should be wherever the user sets it i.e. the user may set the focus to the category box, find box, edit box etc. while a page / pages are loading and after a page loads the focus should be where the user left it. If that's too difficult to implement, then the Save button would be a good place to focus I think, or maybe the top of the edit box if the edit box is currently displayed (rather than one of the log options). Random crashing of AWB

Description When performing runs with AWB, the program randomly crashes, prompting Vista to bring up the "program has stopped working" window. It appears that AWB only crashes after a long run and when the "flash" and/or "beep" options are enabled. Bottom Frame doesn't show

The same is happening to me. Just imagine AWB up and working, but the white space at the top where the changes are shown is so big that it pushes the bottom inch of the options off the screen. Resizing the window doesn't do anything to help. My resolution is 800x600, but when I changed it, nothing really happened, though I could be doing it wrong. 800x600 is a rather uncommon resolution now, most people are on at least 1024*768. Even putting a 17" monitor, it will be bigger and cant really duplicate it... Reedy Boy 17:57, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Sorry for the ambiguity. You'll need TortoiseSVN and Microsoft Visual C# to compile it. See Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser#Getting the sources. Alright, I was actually able to follow all of those directions, download all of the software, and compile the next build. I'm proud. But, unfortunately, it's still doing it. Again, I'm at 1280x1024. Were you able to use previous versions without issue or are you new to AWB? Since I also have no initial idea what might be the cause perhaps we can find a working version and see what has changed since then. All I can say is that it's worked for me on various screen sizes and resolutions... This isn't the first version I used, though I'm relatively new to AWB. I don't remember the version number of the old version I was using, and, in true American "newer-is-always-better" mentality, I erased the old version shortly after downloading the 4000, but, of course, before trying it out to make sure it worked.... It isn't fixed. It is exactly the same in 4110. It is still usable, but a few vital buttons on the bottom just can't show up.
