TFA blurb review[edit]

Hove War Memorial[edit]

Hove War Memorial is a First World War memorial designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and located on Grand Avenue in Hove, part of the city of Brighton and Hove, on the south coast of England. Hove was the site of one of the earliest recruiting events at the beginning of the war and later of several military hospitals. Over 600 men from the town were killed during the war. A war memorial committee was established in 1919 and Lutyens was engaged as architect. He designed a Tuscan column on a three-staged base, topped with a statue of Saint George, patron saint of England. George, cast in the studio of Sir George Frampton, holds a sword by the blade in one hand and a shield in the other. The same statue, with variations, appears on several other monuments. The base contains several dedicatory inscriptions but no names, which are instead recorded on plaques in the local library. The memorial was unveiled on 27 February 1921 by Lord Leconfield. It is a grade II listed building. (Full article...)

@HJ Mitchell and Hassocks5489: and anyone else interested: a draft blurb for this article is above. Thoughts, comments and edits are welcome. Gog the Mild (talk) 13:01, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Looks fine to me, Gog. If I was being really picky I might replace "town's library" with "local library" just to avoid confusion with the city of Brighton and Hove. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 16:24, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Harry. By all means let us be picky. So tweaked. That might learn me not to copy direct from an article's lead. Gog the Mild (talk) 16:49, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also looks good to me – many thanks. Agree re. "local library": Hove isn't strictly a town now since the creation of the combined unitary authority of Brighton and Hove (and there has been some slightly disruptive back-and-forth on the Hove and Brighton articles in recent times over how to define them now). The only thing for me to add is that I will now make a start on an article for Hove Library, which I have been meaning to do for some time; once it goes into mainspace and that link turns blue could I ask you to add a link in the blurb?
