Can we organize the personalities in category:People_from_Assam

Bikram98 09:27, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How do you propose to do that? Would you put personalities, say Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, in multiple categories? Assamese writers, Filmmakers of Assam, Musicians of Assam, etc? That would be sensible. Chaipau 13:08, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, let us put in that fashion. We also need to consolidate the Sub-categories. Bikram98 16:22, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ghanendra K Nath (talk) 06:44, 27 May 2011 (UTC) Hi friends. Do we have a page for Anundoram Barooah? If not we have to add it in the to do list.[reply]

Go ahead and work on it. Chaipau (talk) 12:17, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Politicians of Assam[edit]

It might be better to make this a sub-category of Category:Indian politicians. Then we may remove them from the "Indian Politician" category, which is overcrowded. Chaipau 14:52, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Bikram98 16:23, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The politicians whose pages have been added recently, have very little or no material. It would be good to add some new information, atleast in the page of the person who is from your own consitituency? Manjil P. Saikia (talk) 09:36, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Branding for WikiProject Assam[edit]

Ahom Ethnocentrism and Ahom Supremacy[edit]

Defining Terms:

(a) Ahom - of or related to Ahom kingdom, e.g., Ahom-goods, Ahom-man, Ahom-woman, Ahom-culture, Mongoloid-Ahom, Dravidian-Ahom, Tai-Ahom, … … … while Tai-Ahom (a branch of Mongoloid-Ahom) are the people whose ancestors immigrated from that time Thailand and established Ahom kingdom in eastern part of Kamarupa.

(b) Ahomese - the dialect that evolved in Ahom Kingdom, i.e., from day one the Tai-Ahom entered in Eastern Kamarupa they had no choice but to learn to speak in local language; there were no systematic language-learning approaches out there; they then occupied and form kingdom right there; so from day one this Ahom dialect or Ahomese was started as part of learning difficulties. This dialect is what is now known as Assamese.

  • Why have you been using ranghar image like emblem here? Is this emblem of Assam?
  • This behaviour exhibits Ahom Ethnocentrism and Ahom Supremacy. Besides, current present area of Assam was never the area of Ahom Kingdom.
  • Wikipedia shall not be used to propagate Ahom Ethnocentrism and Ahom Supremacy.
  • What is the formal method in Wikipedia to file a complaint for investigation?

Kurmaa (talk) 16:45, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Ranghar is a secular symbol of Assam that represents culture and sports. A recreation of the ranghar provides the gateway to the Sankaradeva Kalaskhetra (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Srimanta_sankardeva_kalakshetra.JPG) The Ranghar is not considered an ethnocentric symbol. Chaipau (talk) 18:54, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sankaradeva Kalaskhetra gate was a political decision. This ranghar image usage matter needs an independent investigation. Ranghar was the place where a group of Ahom decided to form ULFA - the group that led to thousands of killings (since it was formed) in present Western Assam. That time Tai-Ahom administration beheaded Sankaradeva's son-in-law and threatened to behead more Vaisnava. Present Ahom people (both Dravidian and Mongoloid) yet to apologize for such behaviour of their ancestors. What is the formal method in Wikipedia to file a complaint for investigation? Image for WP:WikiProject Assam[edit]

We need an image for this WikiProject. Please discuss the suggestions, or add more. A most culturally neutral symbol is best.

  • Rhino - the most accepted image
  • Elephant - Assam has been known for its elephants from the hoary past
  • Seal of the Kamarupa kings - historical symbol

Assam tea is going with the rhino. I would go with the rhino for this WikiProject too. Chaipau 15:05, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

More suggestions:

  • The Rangghar.
  • Map of Assam with Brahmaputra prominantly marked.

Personally, here is my preference in order : (1) Rhino, (2) Rangghar, (3) Seal of the Kamarupa kings (this is something new; never seen before) --Bikram98 16:37, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would support any of the following:

  • Rhino
  • Map of Assam with/without Brahmaputra
  • the word "অসম" (Assam) in Assamese.

I would like to oppose specific Ahom connotations in order to be inclusive. --Deepraj | Talk 13:34, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A close reading of history will tell you that the Ahom kingdom was indeed inclusive. It was, in fact, called the Kingdom of Assam contemporaneously, and that the word Ahom was used for an ethnic community and extended to the old kingdom only in colonial times. (Saikia, Yasmin (2001)) People from different ethnic backgrounds, which included Brahmins, Nagas as also Mishings, rose to high offices in the Ahom kingdom (Phuleshwari Kunwonri, a non-Ahom, was a Nati dancer, and her brother became the Borgohain). The Barahi community disappeared into the "Ahom" community. Mir Jhumla's chronicler was disgusted with the local Muslims, because they were more "Assamese" than Muslims and did not help Mir Jhumla in his conquest. The swargadeo's maintained the older deodhais as well as brahmin priests in state matters. The Ahom kingdom was indeed an inclusive kingdom.
The Ranghar is a symbol of people participating in sports. In its fields today people dance during the Rongali Bihu, as people used to during the times of the Ahom kings. The Bihu today is so popular in part because the Ahom kings accepted it as a national festival and patronized it.

Userbox for WP Assam[edit]

I am putting together an userbox for members of the project. If you have any suggestions/preferences do let me know. --Deepraj | Talk 13:34, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Priyankoo has just published a Userbox for people coming from Assam. We can stick with that one for the time being until more ideas develop. You can add {{User Assam}} in your user page to use it.-Deepraj | Talk 16:07, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template/Infobox for WP Assam[edit]

Just like the other WikiProject pages I would like to see a template or infobox for articles put under the umbrella of WikiProject Assam. What do the rest of the members think? --Deepraj | Talk 13:34, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A good idea. Please go ahead. Also, we need a TODO page. Chaipau 10:51, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shortcut for WP Assam[edit]

An Assamese Barnstar?[edit]

What about an Assamese/Oxomiya Barnstar? We must be ready to recognise good interventions and contributions to content related to Assam. Is there someone handy with graphics? I would like to propose something along the lines of "picture of a Rhino (full/head)"/"map of Assam"/"অসম" inside a regular barnstar. What do you think? -Deepraj | Talk 15:32, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A good idea, indeed. We could start with something simple and upgrade it to something spiffy later on. Chaipau 19:54, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm.. on second thought, let us call it "Assam barnstar". Chaipau 20:11, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Please check out Template:The Assam Barnstar and use it as well as improve it. If there are no adverse comments in the near future I propose to include it in the main article on our project page -Deepraj | Talk 14:29, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wonderful! Yet another design concept could be the regular barnstar with the jaapi in place of the circular portion. Chaipau 16:57, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Or a gamosa draped around the barnstar. This would be tough to make, but very appropriate. Chaipau 20:06, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It is ready with some variable functionality. Do check it out and of course use it to the fullest extent! Would like some input on text to announce this to the public ;-) -Deepraj | Talk 10:47, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Babel box in Assamese[edit]

The babel box(es) for Assamese ({{User as}}, {{User as-1}}, {{User as-2}}, {{User as-3}}, {{User as-4}}) needs to be translated into Assamese language with Assamese script. Any takers? My spelling and proper translation ability is a bit doubtful ;-(. Maybe Chaipau/Porikolpok/Priyankoo can pick this up? -Deepraj | Talk 17:06, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Assam[edit]

It is wonderful that we got this started. We have been working on most of the Assam related pages for some time now, but even so we have not been able to produce a good "Feature Status" article. The hope is that with a coordinated effort, we may be able to produce a few such articles. The first article to look at is of course Assam. Does anyone have other suggestions? Or how to get Assam to feature status? My suggestion is (1) Clean-up (2) More references and (3) Expansion of some sections. After we do this we ask for comments. HI, not sure if this is best way to communicate, but i noticed on the Assam tea page a reference to assam producing half of all indian tea production, and then a few words later it says it is 5th largest tea producing district in india, Punjab being no 1. Which I can't reconcile.Amenhotepking (talk) 19:00, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Font size issue[edit]

Well, let us discuss the font issue here.

I have seen some people use <big></big> to increase the font size of Assamese fonts. This seems to work well on English Wikipedia, because it increases the size relatively. Using an absolute size might create a problem if different users use different default font-sizes.

As far as Assamese Wikipedia goes, I currently don't have a solution. But it looks ugly on my browser. I can live with that if others find it okay. But what if someone prefers ekushey fonts? I do. Nevertheless, the solution has to be font neutral.

Chaipau 20:52, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Should these articles be merged? -- Hongooi 09:13, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No. Not all people in Assam are Assamese. Chaipau 02:26, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, one reason I asked is because the first sentence in Assamese people is "The Assamese people are a multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multi-linguistic people of Assam. ..." If the article is supposed to be about the ethnic group as opposed to the population of the Indian state/region, maybe someone could have a look at it. Although going from the next few sentences ("Historically, the definition of the "Assamese people" has remained in flux ... Attempts in the past to define the Assamese people on linguistic, cultural or ethnic basis have failed") this might be tricky. -- Hongooi 06:08, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Assamese people is a stub. Please read some of the material linked from the article. If all the people from Assam were Assamese people, then this issue would not be contentious. People of Assam, on the other hand, describes all the people in Assam. Chaipau 11:50, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Recently, Category:Historical People of Assam was deleted because "historical" is too vague, and merged with Category:People from Assam. This creates a few problems. First, it would result in crowding. Second, historical Assam is not present-day Assam. My suggestion is that we follow the historical eras defined in History of Assam and Timeline of Assam history and create categories specifically to these eras.

  • Pre-history - The period before proto-history. Obviously, there is no need for a category for this period.
  • People from proto-historical Assam - The mythological period, or the period for which events are mentioned in later epigraphic sources and literatures. Could include personalities like Narakasur, Bana, Bhagadatta etc.
  • People from ancient Assam - The first historic period, beginning with Pushyavarman's reign, 4th-century.
  • People from medieval Assam - The period marked by the end of the Pala dynasty of Kamarupa Kingdom and the beginning of the Khen dynasty of the Kamata kingdom.
  • People from colonial Assam - 1826-1947.
  • Category:People from Assam - 1947-present. This category will include the above categories as sub-categories.

Please list your comments and suggestions. Thanks. Chaipau 11:25, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have found that wikipedia lack pages on the history of Assam and historical people. Even some pages about Ahom kings have so less information. I have decided to fill some information about Assam history. I have already started modification in the page " Burmese Invasion of Assam ". I have added the background reasons which lead to the Burmese invasion of Assam. I will also add some more information in this page. I have also changes the pages of Burmese kings Bodawpaya, Bagyidaw and Burmese general Mahabandula. It seem our Burmese friends have skipped many parts of history relating the Burmese Invasion of Assam. Friends, do share your ideas and plz comment on the changes i have made. Naming conventions[edit]

There seems to be a lot of discrepancy in the spelling of various place names/people names/material etc related to Assam. What can be done from WikiProject Assam's perspective to promote consistency. IMHO, there are no right or wrong spelling in most cases in English/Latin character sets. However, the WP:Assam members may be able to recommend certain approaches through consensus. Otherwise there will be a question on the credibility of the articles references etc. Looking forward to other's views. -Deepraj | Talk 10:09, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. We can begin by delineating the rules in Wikipedia:WikiProject Assam/Naming convention. Before we do that, let us discuss some rules. I would suggest the following, as we go from top to bottom
  1. Use the specific spelling that is in use. For example, use "Baruva" instead of "Barua" for Parvati Prasad Baruva (it is redirected to Parvati Prasad Baruwa currently.)
  2. Use standard English spelling, if the above does not exist.
  3. Use phonetic spelling if standard English does not exist. (we need to build up a convention for writing phonetic names---in Assamese/Bodo etc.)
Once we have an accepted set of rules, we may transfer them to Wikipedia:WikiProject Assam/Naming convention. Chaipau 12:03, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

TinucherianBot can automatically tag articles with {{WP India}} Banner as {{WP India|class=|importance=}} to the talk page of articles without the project banner. It can also add the workgroup paramaters like "|kerala=yes|kerala-importance=" etc ,if needed. The currently supported workgroups are Kerala, Maharashtra, Andhra pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Bengal, Goa, Himachal Pradesh , Karnataka , Punjab, cities, Cinema, Literature, Protected Areas of India, History, Politics, states, Geography,Maps,Districts and Tamil.

If you need so, you need to provide me with the Categories to run the Bot. Due to some technical issues, the Bot will not run recursively to sub-categories. The requester should kindly verify that there are NO non-related articles in the category.
You may request for the bot run on my talk page... Thanks -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 06:45, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:ASM is now incorporated into {{WP India}}[edit]

Wikiproject Assam has been incorpoated into {{WP India}}. So, we would like to abolish the old template {{WikiProject Assam}}. Inclusion of the workgroup into {{WP India}} would help to organise and keep a better watch on the articles. I have requested Ganeshk to keep the old look of the template. Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme[edit]

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Assam[edit]

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 23:03, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help to complete the list[edit]

Following our custom, we eat hundred varieties of xaaks (greens) during Rongali Bihu (on sera bihu). That means hundreds of varieties of greens and vegetables are there in Assam. In the page List of vegetables in Assam I’m trying to enlist all the greens and vegetables found in Assam along with their local names, common names and scientific names.

Here is a humble request to all the users of WikiProject Assam to contribute in order to complete the list and also I’m eagerly waiting for creative and encouraging suggestions from the veterans in this regard.

would be glad to joind in this project..[edit]

Hello all, I am really so happy to see a active group for assamese articles here. I shall be glad to join you people and do whatever possible by me. Hope you will acknowledge me. I am sorry to say that somehow I am not getting the hang of this orkut project and user things. So many things are looking awkward for me. Hope I shall learn them soon. I am not sure whether to put it here. I have something to say about the pronunciation. I believe we should write according to the pronunciation in assamese. 's' as in asom should be 'x' and written as 's' as in Chandmari. Like in Ganeshguri, I would like to put it as ganeshguri not as ganexguri. The names should also be written in the assamese font to reduce any confusion. Far better if someone can add the actual pronunciation symbols. Hope to come back soon. And, yes where can I find the 'todo' list? -regards. ````uddip

List of Assamese Literature: Phool[edit]

I had just been through the page and found Phool is listed an assamese children's magaine. But there are two things first I have never came across any children's magaine by that name, but I may be wrong; and second, the link there shows that it is the one of the most widely read urdu magazines wordlwide. But there is no mention it is published in Assamese too. I checked their website too, there also is no mention about an Assamese edition. So, I have deleted the entry. If there is really one please readd the entry, but not the link, which I believe is misleading. Added name of Xophura there, which I know is being published regularly now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.99.208.247 (talk) 13:53, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinators' working group[edit]

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 04:48, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Assam articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release[edit]

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Assam articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Need Help with Shankardev Kalakshetra!!![edit]

Hi. It would be unnecessary now to explain the importance of the Srimanta Shankardeva Kalakshetra to Assam. However, some uncalled-for edits have recently been made on Shankardev Kalakshetra, wherein users have blatantly copied some text from other articles on the internet and pasted them onto the aforementioned article here in Wikipedia. That has resulted in copyright infringement leading to suspension of the article. This is VERY DISHEARTENING because most of the other text in the article and all the photographs happen to be first-hand. Assam Wikipedians, can we work on this together please? Comment on the WikiProject X proposal[edit]

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject X is live![edit]

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject[edit]

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background[edit]

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:26, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Expert attention[edit]

This is a notice about Category:Assam articles needing expert attention, which might be of interest to your WikiProject. It will take a while before the category is populated. There might be as few as one page in the category, or zero if someone has removed the expert request tag from the page.  — Mr. Guye (talk) (contribs)  23:18, 2 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool[edit]

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Patrol[edit]

New Page Patrol needs experienced volunteers
  • New Page Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles, including Assam related articles. We could use a few extra hands on deck if you think you can help.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; Wikipedia needs experienced users to perform this task and there are precious few with the appropriate skills. Even a couple reviews a day can make a huge difference.
  • If you would like to join the project and help out, please see the granting conditions and review our instructions page. You can apply for the user-right HERE. --John B123 (talk) 13:01, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Project-independent quality assessments[edit]

Quality assessments are used by Wikipedia editors to rate the quality of articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project decides to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present.
