Copyediting the list of copyeditors[edit]

Would anybody mind if I sorted out the English in the list of people who claim to have a good grasp of English? For example: "A have a good command of English" & "though I have specialist knowledge of physics" & "I have good command of English" etc.. It would be amusing if it were intended as a joke. I need help, and I think I'm in the right place[edit]

Hello,

I am in need of some help. I am currently in the process of making a new page titled "Hidden Blade Weapon" as a way to inform people about the hidden blade the Assassins use in the series Assassin's Creed. The problem being Wikipedia complaining about me creating what they think is a game FAQ, which I have no interest in making, merely an informal document about the most noteable weapon of their class. Could anyone help me, please? (I hope I'm not breaking any rules about posting messages on here.)

House cleaning[edit]

Placed all members in chronological order and added space between entries, I hope nobody minds.

Also, I noticed some accounts are not active, should they be deleted?

I'm wondering about the names at the bottom of the list, directly underneath an admonishment to add new names at the top. Should they be moved or left where they are? — UncleBubba T @ C ) 21:31, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Table formatting help needed Somehow when I added myself to the table it messed up the table formatting. I reviewed the instructions and can't figure out what I did wrong. I'd appreciate it if someone would correct my mistake and let me know what I should have done differently. Thanks! synthfiend (talk) 12:21, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Members section[edit]

These are my thoughts on what the members' section will contain. I'm thinking of a general welcome note and instructions on how to join as a member. We will also list down the Membership Coordinator/s so people know who to contact. We will also have links to our Mailing List, as well as a link to our communication archives and the Mentor program (when we have got it finished/started). We should also have an invitation template at WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Members/Invite and a welcome note for those who actually join us at WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Members/Welcome. Any other thoughts/suggestions? – SMasters (talk) 04:25, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I like your plans. I'm fully in favor. --Tea with toast (talk) 14:36, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me. Let's develop the invitation template and welcome template here. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 13:11, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please go ahead and start to edit the Members' section. There's probably no need to develop the templates somewhere else. Just go right ahead and start the templates in their final namespaces. Cheers. – SMasters (talk) 08:22, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Table not displaying correctly[edit]

Could someone more experienced help me with the list of members. I have created a page for myself, however the links aren't connecting. 75.68.0.225 (talk) 16:58, 22 February 2014 (UTC)sta13ths17[reply]

Why is the 'Name' cell so wide after I added my entry?[edit]

Dear colleagues,

I joined the Guild today and added my entry exactly as instructed; before saving my changes, I checked using 'Show Preview', as usual, and the table looked fine. After saving, though, the 'Name' cell was much too wide and removing my changes made no difference.

I can see that this seems to have happened before but whoever fixed it before left no explanation about how s/he did it. I removed a few unnecessary blank lines between entries but that made no difference.

If anyone can help fix this, then please kindly consider updating this section with a brief description of the solution. Thank you!

With kind regards;

Patrick. ツ Pdebee. (talk) 19:50, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

OK, after scrolling down through the whole table slowly, I noticed there was a signature-style timestamp in the 'Name' cell of user 'Panpog1' and, since this seemed to occupy the whole width of the cell, I removed it; after saving, the 'Name' cell returned to the width it displayed under 'Show Review'; so, that clearly fixed it.
However, the question remains: why did the table look fine before I added my entry, and why does it look OK when previewed? Surely, the timestamp had been there all along?!
Any explanations gratefully received, but at least the table looks fine now!
With kind regards;

I widened the whole table from '90%' to '100%' of the page, to ensure some of the dates would fit on two lines instead of three. I also removed the '{{' and '}}' that were bracketing the joining date of 'juanTamad', thus causing the text of the date to be treated like a non-existent template, displayed in red.
I hope nobody will mind, but please feel free to revert any of these changes if required.
With kind regards;
Patrick.

I ruined the participant list[edit]

I tried to add my name and something I did deleted that of the person below me. Mine is now up there fine, but I've apparently broken someone else's. I'm terribly sorry, but could someone help me out and fix it? Lmao, thanks! Mechanic1c (talk) 16:50, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. Thanks for letting us know. And welcome! Please sign up for the May backlog reduction drive. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:49, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oops?[edit]

I added my name to the table, but it appears I also messed with the formatting. Apologies and HELP! ChiHistoryeditor 19:54, 11 May 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChiHistoryeditor (talkcontribs)

Hi ChiHistoryeditor. I've fixed the table now. Feel free to compare the versions, to see what the issue was. Welcome to the Guild, and happy copy editing. (Don't forget to sign your Talk page entries with ~~~~) - Ryk72 'c.s.n.s.' 21:54, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much! I always sign with ChiHistoryeditor 02:15, 12 May 2015 (UTC). Is my signature not showing up correctly? --ChiHistoryeditor 02:15, 12 May 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChiHistoryeditor (talkcontribs)

A signature should include a link to at least one of your User, User Talk, and Contributions pages. It’s easier to sign with the four tildes as above than by typing it out, and that also ensures the accuracy of the date-stamp. (Note that SineBot is marking your postings as unsigned due to the lack of a link.) See WP:SIG.—Odysseus1479 02:32, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I meant that I use the four tildes for all my sigs. I didn't realize that I need to include a link. Thanks for the help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChiHistoryeditor (talkcontribs) 12:48, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

My date in the participation table isn't displaying correctly[edit]

IP address concerns[edit]

It looks like no one has looked at this talk page in years, so this probably won’t get noticed, but what do I do if I want to join the guild but I’m not signed up and only have an IP address? 98.97.34.38 (talk) 19:08, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome to participate in our drives and blitzes, or in copy editing in general, as long as you have the skills to do it. You do not have to put your IP address on this page. Welcome! – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:58, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
