proposing deletion of sunan stadium or renaming

Regarding article Sunan Stadium. the stadium does not exist. The current geodata refers to the pyongsong stadium that was constructed in 1991, which is home to the pyongsong striker force which seems to be a football club. Not the sunan stadium and it is a name that never existed. There is no reason to be named sunan when the stadium is not even in pyongyang but in pyongsong. Also the original source was also dubious at best. It is neither mentioned in north korean or south korean sources. And neither in english sources, so the current "fact" is not found anywhere.Waltzingmogumogupeach (talk) 22:01, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

Network column in filmography section

In majority of South Korean actor articles, the filmography tables include a "network" column for any television show. Is there any particular reason for this? This isn't included in any articles of western actors that I have come across, and isn't included in any of the examples listed at WP:FILMOGRAPHY, so I'm not sure why SK articles seem to be an exemption to this? I also found this recent discussion which seemed to be in agreement that a networks column should not be included. Alex (talk) 22:35, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

SK articles seem to do a lot of things different to the rest of the encyclopedia for no explicable reason much of the time. I see no reason not to remove the col per the arguments presented in the linked discussion. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 22:57, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

Need someone to edit K-pop charting on Billboard charts for a couple of weeks

I am scheduled for surgery in a couple of weeks and am looking for an interested editor to update K-pop chartings on the Billboard charts for five different pages at the beginning of April. Edit research and time is about 1-2 hours weekly. I started the first page List of K-pop on the Billboard charts in December 2014 and have been doing updates for it and subsequent pages since. Osen or OSEN?

Imo, it should be Osen per MOS:TMRULES however @Accireioj disagreed stating that it's an acronym of which I couldn't find any evidence of such on its official website. Accireioj also stated that Osen's Korean name is Korean: ㈜오에스이엔; RR: Twa O E-seu-i-en hence should be stylized as OSEN which I still disagreed that I should be stylized in all caps. I read somewhere few years ago that OSEN stands for Online Sports & Entertainment News. I cannot find more reliable source but I believe this is the Twitter account that they briefly used before, and their first Tweet was: "Hello world, we are Online Sports Entertainment News!". Their Korean name (오에스이엔) literally means "O-S-E-N". But let's just say that I might be wrong, and wait for more comments/replies. Accireioj (talk) 12:18, 13 March 2022 (UTC)

Vassal state has a disputed, arguably dubious, section about Korea during the Qing dynasty that Sylvia379 believes should be deleted outright. I know essentially nothing about the history involved except to observe that the status has been controversial and so we should have at least a short paragraph to cover that controversy. Gaon Social Chart launch date

The lead says the chart launched in July 2013 but the none of the 4 sources cited (TKH, Mwave etc.) mention this. They all only state the various SNS platforms used in the chart's criteria. I did a bit of digging on Naver and found multiple sources saying it launched in June. Specifically this one from Kyunghyang dd June 13, 2013 saying Gaon plans to launch a new SNS chart at the end of June, followed by other articles dd Aug 2013 that refer to it being launched in June, eg. 1, 2, 3 etc. No articles from July 2013 turned up in my search. Idk if I a diff search term would locate anything for that month. Can anyone provide some insight?

 Comment: I think it was based on the first issue date (July 14–20, 2013) which is within July 2013 hence maybe that's why it was stated as such despite the supporting sources not mentioning it. My research also turn up the same sources indicated as launched in June. Not sure if that's an error in reporting (seem unlikely given that searching "가온 소셜 차트는" returns August 22, 2013 as earliest result) or the chart was delay to July but wasn't reported. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 06:59, 13 March 2022 (UTC)

Looks like it was WP:PROD due to lack of sources. This is just how Wikipedia works, all content needs reliable sources. No one is deliberately targeting this subject. Very disappointed on WikiProject Korea

Korea's palace life and Joseon dynasty drama series are popular and greatly influenced on other part of Asian countries including India. It is a major achievement of Korean culture. I'm proud of Korean palace court drama, these are very interesting and amazing. I love to watching and teaching Korean royal culture through movies and TV series. I don't understand why Korean Wiki Editors don't create the about of Joseon historical figures? I've created an article behalf of Korean editor about Hong Guk-yeong, one of the main characters of the current hit drama The Red Sleeve. If I have read it correct, it says "중국 광동성 광정우시 판외구 야왼청 싱야삼루 최동측" which Google translates to "East side of Xingya Three Rd., Yuancheng, Panyu District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, China". Does this help? Alex (talk) 07:42, 30 March 2022 (UTC)

Using asterisk (*) in South Korean artists' discographies is not appropriate

Asterisk (*) has been used in many South Korean artists' discographies to denote that a 'record chart' did not exist at that time. But it is actually not an appropriate practice because in multiple occasions songs have charted even on a 'record chart' which started tracking years after the song was released. For example all Blackpink singles since "Ddu-du Ddu-du" have charted on Billboard Global 200 although the chart started tracking in late 2020. Another example would be Aespa's discography. The Vietnam Hot 100 column has been blanked using a note which says "Billboard Vietnam was launched on January 14, 2022." Which is actually contradictory for the fact in the same column "Dreams Come True" which was released in December 2021, has charted on the same said 'record chart'. I just want to say that blanking a column using an asterisk or a note should not be done. But a note on the top, about when a 'record chart' was established or was discontinued, can be added, like in AKMU's discography. -ink&fables «talk» 06:07, 26 March 2022 (UTC)

Help with infobox "Korean name"

Hello everybody,

I am currently working on a draft about a Korean artist living in Germany (it's a translation of my original german article) and struggling a little with the infobox "Korean Name". So, I have an artist here who uses an alias as an artist, but not a stage name, as she does not appear on stage. There seems to be no infobox for general pseudonyms or artist aliases? Here's the draft on Kyung-hwa Choi-ahoi in my sandbox. Could you take a look and suggest a change or change it directly? Her given name is Kyung-hwa Choi, the name she uses as an artist is Kyung-hwa Choi-ahoi.

Also: is anybody working in the Korean Wikipedia as well and might be able to help with a question concerning a redirect?

Hello! Template:Infobox Korean name allows for "other" names that you can define as "Alias" or anything you like. But in this case, I would format the infobox like the example below, where her alias is the default name since that's what she's known by, followed by her birth name. Also I am assuming her birth name is actually 최경화 (with the surname first and spelled 최) and not 경화초이, but feel free to adjust that based on what your sources say. - Lenoresm (talk) 14:59, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

@Btspurplegalaxy: Thanks, that's about this PDF file only interested in first 4 pages which includes 1980 Asian Taekwondo Championship results. I try to make a list of medalists here User:Sports2021/sandbox but few things don't add up. most of non-Korean names are in English, that's no problem. but I need someone to double check all 10 Korean medalists to make sure if they are correct (I believe they are all correct but need a confirmation) but I'm also intersted in "Light middleweight" and "Light heavyweight" medalists. in page 2 (Light middleweight section) I can see the word Brunei but at the end it shows only 3 medalists, I think someone from Brunei won the 2nd bronze medal. (apparently the Korean athlete beat someone from Brunei in the SF) the problem is with Light heavyweight results (also in Page 2) I can see only 2 medalists here (gold and silver) but the article mentions another name "Liu Chien-chung" I assume there was a 3rd athlete in this weight who probably took the bronze. This is the whole translation: Korean representative Jung Chan had a TKO win against the People’s Republic of China representative Liu Chien-Chung in a regular fight, got a bye in the semifinal round because the other player forfeited and met with Jordan’s Khdair Dueulan Kassem in the final match. He used his skills to his fullest capacity and though it seemed that he was feeling handicapped, there was a difference in his foundational basic skills with the other side that he was able to get his 3rd gold medal win. Labels in member_of parameter

Are collective titles such as "YG Family", "SMTown", "JYP Nation" etc. necessary in spinoffs and member_of parameters? They aren't official groups and are just terms used by labels to refer to their own artists. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 21:04, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Could someone help me find reliable sources on Binggrae's history, slogans, and awards?

Binggrae is a very famous company in Korea (maker of Banana Milk [바나나 맛 우유]) and I've submitted it to be an article (I'm surprised why it isn't an article already). However due to seeing how strict the people who approve of article drafts are, I'm beginning to think that it will be declined. I want to buff it up with a lot of sources but I weirdly can't find much even on Naver. Here's the draft --> Draft:Binggrae. Also, If you're an extended confirmed user and in the wiki project for looking at afcs, please consider looking at it.

Reliable sources list

Can I propose Segye Ilbo to be on the unreliable sources list? It's owned by the unification church (variously described as a cult), and while it may have factual information, religious and political articles could potentially be skewed. Haiiya (talk) (contribs) 02:48, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

SNSD sales

I would like further input about claimed sales for SNSD. Two articles say that SNSD sold 100 million records, however upon stumbling on this forum: Https://onehallyu.com/topic/558147-girls-generationsnsd-a-complete-data-record-sales-streams-achievements-more/, it seems to me that its from combining all solo and subgroup sales into one figure. Should it be added to SNSD's wiki page and/or List of best-selling girl groups?

I would say no and I would be really dubious of any sales figures originating from OneHallyu. If you read the SCMP article, they actually list their source as Koreaboo, which is obviously not reliable. I expect it's a similar story for Seventeen. Generally speaking, I've observed that many Western media outlets source their information about Korean sales from places like Koreaboo, Allkpop and Wikipedia itself. I think it's probably best to cross-check any claims with Gaon/Korean media sources before adding to articles. Artemisia (talk) 17:53, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

This reminds me very much of the case with Bigbang's claimed sales. I wouldn't take the word of any of those sources. Seventeen would not be considered a top tier source to support album sales, and the SCMP article is obv unreliable as has already been pointed out. Also, sub-unit and solo sales shouldn't be combined and considered as sales of the main act, because they simply are not. Otherwise Exo's sales would be way inflated, as would the sales of every other group whose ever had subunits and soloists derived from it. Television tables in filmography section

I've noticed that there is a tendency to have separate tables for variety shows and TV dramas in the filmography section of many South Korean artists' articles. Would it not be better to combine them into a single table for television? I do not usually see it formatted this way outside of South Korean articles. Oppose: the current format with segregation works completely fine and it ain't broke hence don't fix it by introducing even more messiness just because of "consistency" (nope it doesn't unless you're willing to create a bot to standardalize every South Korean articles or if such bot even exist) amongs the articles such as with the previous removal of network column which till today still exists in many articles and of course also on Leeteuk ones. Leeteuk's version is also a total "blob of text" especially the roles column smashing actual hosting roles with drama character hosting roles. Furthermore, why (not a question) are discography (singles) segregated into for example, singles + promotional singles + other charted songs or as lead artist + as featured artist + promotional singles + other charted songs when all on layman terms are simply songs because it makes sense to segregate. Wikimedia ESEAP Conference 2022 on November 18-20 in Sydney, Australia

The Wikimedia East, South East Asia and the Pacific also known as ESEAP will be having an in-person conference in Sydney, Australia on November 18-20. ESEAP is a regional collaborative composed of nationalities & Wikimedia affiliates of Indonesia, Taiwan, Australia, Korea, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. Membership also include nationalities and informal communities of Brunei, Cambodia, China, Japan, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, and Timor Leste.

The goals for the conference are:

• Strategic discussions: ESEAP Hub governance, process of moving from an informal group to more formal structure aligned with the Hubs/Minimum Criteria for Pilots
• Partnership, Tools & Skills: Outreach and community collaboration support networks; building a network of skill sets so that communities in the region can provide extra outreach support and collaboration across the region; and

TXT MV credits

Does anyone have copies of any (or all) of TXT's albums, and can tell me if there are any video credits for the songs in them? An editor told me awhile back that other artists have in theirs, so it's possible for TXT too, but I haven't had much luck finding booklet scans online. Using Touring Data for tour figures

Even though Touring Data is WordPress hosted website, it is probably the most accurate website for touring figures for K-pop artists outside Billboard Boxscore. Not any person can report random figures to this site as the website description says that "We accept reports directly from venues, promoters and agencies", therefore, there is a level of authenticity in their data. Figures that have been reported by Touring Data based on what I've seen is exactly what Billboard Boxscore reports, but the thing with the latter is that they rarely report more than a few number of shows for tours by K-pop artists. Although attendance data reported by media outlets are sometimes available, they are at many times inaccurate as they're off by thousands when comparing them to what Billboard actually reports later if they even report it. Should Touring Data be used if there is no figures from Billboard Boxscore available? ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 14:50, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

I don't think so. The policy is to stick to reliable secondary sources (or primary if appropriate) for this sort of info, and while Touring Data may report the same/similar info that established secondary sources do, I don't think it can be considered one itself. There isn't even anything on the site indicating who runs it. The better place to ask this I think would be the music project talk page or even the perennial sources talk page if that doesn't work. Usage of Billboard's Hits of the World – South Korea Songs

There is an ongoing dispute over the addition South Korea Songs peak in the weekly charts table of "Pink Venom".

Important note, there are already existing discussions here and here at WP:RECORDCHARTS which denote concerns about the use of Hits of the World where there are already recongised national record charts present. Please note that wikiprojects cannot and should not circumvent content guidelines. Regarding usage of Circle Global K-pop Chart

Currently, from my observation, the general understanding amongs editors editing K-pop singer/group/band's article is that, if the song didn't chart on Circle Digital Chart, then the component charts of Digital Chart, will sometime be mentioned in prose in the Commercial performance section, are listed directly in discography table(s) or mentioned via the explanatory footnotes beside the em-dash, and listed as "South Korea (Circle Download)" or "South Korea (Circle Streaming)" or "South Korea (Circle BGM)" in the charts table. Hence in what situation should the newly added Circle Global K-pop Chart be used in discography table(s), used in charts table(s), and be mentioned in prose in the song's article, given that this chart isn't component of Digital Chart. And should this chart also be listed alongside the Circle Digital Chart, if the song has charted on both of them. I believed the situation is similar to the Circle Retail Album Chart in which I have never seen it being mentioned and/or used in song's article, discography table(s), and charts table(s). — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 13:40, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

Charts should be discussed at WP:RECORDCHARTS, the relevant content guide, not at individual project level. I've been wondering if at the very least it could be considered a genre chart (like the World Digital Song Sales chart by BB for eg.), but I don't pay attention to this chart so idk if only actual Kpop songs have ranked on it since it started, or if any Korean song that gets enough traction internationally regardless of genre would enter it. If it really is a genre-specific chart, then I could see it maybe being allowed as an entry in the Chart tables on song pages (if it doesn't enter the Digital or component charts that is). I don't think it should be used in discogs because it isn't the national chart of SK and it doesn't appear to be as notable as the Kpop Hot 100 was considered to be while it was active. Circle doesn't release the number of global streams the way BB does and we don't even know how many countries streaming data is being compiled from. Everything is converted to points so how is that helpful for readers? It doesn't add anything useful so I don't think it's notable enough to mention in prose either, otherwise some will take it as license to mention on every single song article that a song entered the Circle Global Kpop Streaming Chart at #xyz with no other actual useful info to supplement that statement. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 19:07, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

Removal of non-notable BreakTudo Awards

In 2020, the BreakTudo Awards were determined to be non-notable and its article was deleted per consensus at AFD. However, existing mentions of the awards were not removed across Wikipedia and still remain to this day on several Kpop-related articles. Though I was aware of the AFD at the time, I hesitated to remove the BTAs from the BTS awards page since they were not removed elsewhere once the discussion closed, and that has bothered me ever since. I finally asked about their removal yesterday and have been advised that it is correct to do so. Ik that List of Awards and nominations articles are a very touchy area and can cause contention with those who like seeing many awards listed for their favorite artists, but I am posting here to let other editors of this project be aware in the hopes that you will assist with the removal. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 19:39, 14 September 2022 (UTC)

Removal of Soompi Awards

Similar to the above, should something be done to Soompi Awards as well? While article for Soompi Awards wasn't created (other than in redirect form) before, previous discussions here have stated that only awards that are 2017 and later are considered notable and only if secondary reliable sources that isn't from Soompi themselves can be provided. It has also been discussed various times here in BTS's A&N list which has similar stand, however the discussions there also stated that prior 2017 awards can be included if secondary reliable sources can be provided. Currently there are 100 articles listing Soompi Awards with either secondary reliable sources (excluding these since they are reliably sourced) or completely unsourced or sourced using Soompi website. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 17:22, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

WP:RSPUSE does say that "Sources which are generally unreliable may still be useful in some situations. For example, even extremely low-quality sources, such as social media, may sometimes be used as self-published sources for routine information about the subjects themselves". However, using Soompi as a source of information about its award ceremony (eg. explaining its history) is a diff matter to using it to source multiple past editions of its awards. Unlike Billboard and MTV, which are both established reliable sources with very notable, widely covered award shows, and can therefore be used as primary sources about themselves and their awards (though secondary sources are still preferred), the same cannot be said for Soompi, a long-established unreliable source. WP:RSPRIMARY says "Although specific facts may be taken from primary sources, secondary sources that present the same material are preferred. Large blocks of material based purely on primary sources should be avoided." If articles about Soompi's awards prior to 2017 were attempted, we would be hard-pressed to reliably source them as they would be filled with mostly primary sources and likely be flagged for deletion. To me this indicates that earlier, non-notable editions of the Soompi Awards—unless they can be acceptably sourced—should not be included and existing mentions should removed. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 19:31, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

China sales

I've noticed User:Ss112 going around and removing Chinese sales on several discographies of K-pop artists, based on the listed sources being unofficial (as there are no official charts in China), not being listed in WP:CHARTS, and WP:SYNTH. Personally I agreed, and I went ahead and removed them on Big Bang and Super junior as well, but there are several other pages that still have this. disagree; the Chinese sales are been counted towards IFPI, as well been considered as one of top 10 global recording markets, even Xiao Zhan listed in top 10 best-selling songs based on Tencent Music Entertainment music platforms, those sales are been recognized legally be everyone in industry from IFBI, Billboard who recently announced they making new chart for China, or even record labels who are selling their music on those platforms, the only difference is those sales are available for everyone to see, you just deleting legit sales based on one account random deletion and because there is no official chart? when IFPI themselves considered those platforms and sales as right and legal? They did based on their 'Global Music Report 2020', page 4 of the report, since that year the sales from country are been counted, from Xiao Zhan charting in top 10 last year list to Chen Li Nong been mentioned in the 'Global Music Report 2021' report as well acknowledging QQ Music certification system as they did break-down his numbers on page 28 of the report. QQ Music is a WP:SINGLEVENDOR network (just like Melon or iTunes) and we don't use those on Wikipedia. The problem with China is that there is no Billboard, Circle/Gaon, or Oricon like organization that officially reports digital sales or awards certifications. All Chinese sales that have been listed on discography articles that have been taken from WP:SINGLEVENDOR networks only, which is unsuitable to be included in discography tables. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 23:59, 20 October 2022 (UTC)

There should be exclusions, not all rules can apply to everything. Especially to this one here, where IFPI themselves acknowledge them, their sales and streams, even use their data on their year end charts and analysis. Those sales are legitimate and are huge in artists history, deleting it means you are deleting entire country sales based on simple rule? As well will mean to delete so many pages with legitimate information from 'Best-selling Music in china' to 'QQ Music Awards' and other multiple awards because they all use those data that you asking to be deleted. QQ Music being mentioned in their write-ups doesn't represent anything official for Wikipedia, let's get that out of the way first. Them mentioning similar metrics like Spotify streams or YouTube views is just that, nothing more. (edit conflict) KLIFE88, saoju.net is considered an unreliable/self-published/unofficial source. It is similar to using sites like chartmasters.org or kworb to source sales (see WP:BADCHARTSAVOID). If no other sources exist other than saoju.net for the relevant entries on List of best-selling albums in China and List of best-selling albums by country#China (which mainly uses single vendor sources as Nkon21 pointed out), then they have to be removed. If there are IFPI or Billboard sources to support those numbers, and any others elsewhere on WP that you insist should be kept, the onus is on YOU to find those sources and add them, instead of defending saoju when it's unacceptability has been clearly explained to you. Lists of fastest-selling albums contains sections with only one or a few entries based on available reliable sources, so even if the aforementioned China-related pages end up trimmed down due to lack of sources for entries, it's fine. They can always be restored later as/when proper sources become available. However, if, after all this, you still strongly believe that saoju/single vendor sources like QQ Music should be allowed, then you need to get consensus on WT:CHARTS first. Otherwise, any editor is fully justified in removing all of the information such sources support across the entirety of Wikipedia, regardless of your feelings on the matter. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 18:40, 21 October 2022 (UTC)

saoju.net is just a site that collects the sales from QQ Music, Kugou, Kuwu and NetEase, it can easily be deleted and add the 4 sources from the original site, its actually how it was before and I personally updated the pages with them, but other editors started adding saoju.net instead of 4-5 sources. And I just checked the charts rules and it applies to all of it, the Chinese sales are backed up by IFPI, even Billboard will start using them soon,It is a static and data will never change and never did change. Wikipedia was a place were editors try to correct the information and add the right one, not the place to delete everything because you can't or won't go and do proper search for it. The 4 original sources cannot be used because they are WP:SINGLEVENDOR sources, which Nkon21 has already explained also cannot be used. Billboard uses sales data from various individual digital platforms in its calculations, the same as IFPI, but we cannot use the direct sales data from those platforms even if it was available outside of BB and IFPI reports, because it is single vendor data. Just like Spotify chart stats can't be used for the same reason. If BB or the IFPI publishes a report totalling the sales in question, that report/info can be used on wikipedia. Anything else, any other primary source coming directly from a digital sales platform cannot be used. It's as plain as that. If you have no secondary sources to corroborate any of the sales then it cannot be included on wikipedia and should be removed. That's all there is to it.
