WP 1.0 bot announcement[edit]

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:30, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced living people articles bot[edit]

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Lacrosse/Archive4/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Lacrosse/Archive4/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 00:42, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Xenobot Mk V to tag articles in project scope and/or auto-assess unassessed articles[edit]

A request has been made to tag & auto-assess articles in the scope of this project based on categories and/or auto-assess the project's unassessed articles.

To auto-assess, Xenobot Mk V (talk · contribs) looks for a {{stub}} template on the article, or inherits the class rating from other project banners (see here for further details).

Feel free to raise any questions or concerns regarding this process. The task will commence after 72 hours if there are no objections.

Notification regarding Wikipedia-Books[edit]

Hadronic Matter
An overview
An example of a book cover, taken from Book:Hadronic Matter

As detailed in last week's Signpost, WikiProject Wikipedia books is undertaking a cleanup all Wikipedia books. Particularly, the {{saved book}} template has been updated to allow editors to specify the default covers of the books. Title, subtitle, cover-image, and cover-color can all be specified, and an HTML preview of the cover will be generated and shown on the book's page (an example of such a cover is found on the right). Ideally, all books in Category:Book-Class lacrosse articles should have covers.

If you need help with the {{saved book}} template, or have any questions about books in general, see Help:Books, Wikipedia:Books, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikipedia-Books, or ask me on my talk page. Also feel free to join WikiProject Wikipedia-Books, as we need all the help we can get.

This message was delivered by User:EarwigBot, at 00:42, 8 April 2010 (UTC), on behalf of Headbomb. Headbomb probably isn't watching this page, so if you want him to reply here, just leave him a message on his talk page. EarwigBot (owner • talk) 00:42, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sports Notability[edit]

There is discussion ongoing at Wikipedia_talk:BIO#RFC:_WP:Athlete_Professional_Clause_Needs_Improvement debating possible changes to the WP:ATHLETE notability guideline. As a result, some have suggested using WP:NSPORT as an eventual replacement for WP:ATHLETE. Editing has begun at WP:NSPORT, please participate to help refine the notability guideline for the sports covered by this wikiproject. —Joshua Scott (LiberalFascist) 03:10, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons[edit]

The WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons (UBLPs) aims to reduce the number of unreferenced biographical articles to under 30,000 by June 1, primarily by enabling WikiProjects to easily identify UBLP articles in their project's scope. There were over 52,000 unreferenced BLPs in January 2010 and this has been reduced to 32,665 as of May 16. A bot is now running daily to compile a list of all articles that are in both Category:All unreferenced BLPs and have been tagged by a WikiProject. Note that the bot does NOT place unreferenced tags or assign articles to projects - this has been done by others previously - it just compiles a list.

Your Project's list can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Lacrosse/Unreferenced BLPs. As of May 17 you have approximately 48 articles to be referenced. The list of all other WikiProject UBLPs can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons/WikiProjects.

Your assistance in reviewing and referencing these articles is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please don't hestitate to ask either at WT:URBLP or at my talk page. Thanks, The-Pope (talk) 17:19, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I saw there were similar articles created recently for other college sports (football, hockey, and basketball), and decided to make one of these for lacrosse head coaches. The arbitrary cut-off that I used was 250 wins.

I used the 2009 NCAA record book and added the past seasons results for active coaches, but did notice that the NCAA record book does not count Dick Edell's record at the University of Baltimore (1973–1975), which would put him at either 237 or 282 wins, depending on whether you count those or not. To my knowledge, UBalt was Division II at the time, so those wins should count towards his all-time NCAA record. Oddly, the NCAA record book counted Richie Meade's wins/losses at UBalt from 1979 to 1982, so I don't know if there was an oversight with Edell or whether there were NCAA violations or something of which I am not aware (and sort of doubt) during his tenure there. Anyone have anything on this? Strikehold (talk) 01:59, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

re: Dick Edell

  • I see nothing 'suspicious' in U B's schedule for that period. U B's 1973 schedule is tough with opponents Ohio Wesleyan, Roanoke, Maryland (1973 DI champ), Hofstra (#6 seed DI), Washington Shoremen (USILA finalist), Towson, UMBC & Washington & Lee (#4 seed DI). Baltimore reached the USILA (non-Division I year-end tournament) quarterfinals against Washington beating Roanoke to get there. Further research -- "5-12-75 Salisbury Times - Ohio Wesleyan and Morgan State, ranked 10th and llth in last week's USILA College Division poll were included in the (tournament) field over the teams which ranked seventh, eighth and ninth — Roanoke, Adelphi and Baltimore U". UB's schedule looks legitimate, nothing so far on any violations. I'd suggest including Baltimore's wins/losses as part of Edell's overall coaching record. Thanks ! --10stone5 (talk) 01:11, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks for checking into that. Edell's UB record is included in the list and on his article. I had the feeling that the NCAA figure was wrong, but it is bizarre that they just didn't count the UB games for Edell, while they did for I think Richie Meade. Strikehold (talk) 21:13, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have caught what appear to be a few more errors in the NCAA Record Book: It puts Richie Meade as UBalt head coach in 1979 (while the UBalt yearbook and Meade's Navy bio say he arrived in 1980), and it may also have incorrect number of wins for Jim (Ace) Adams (284 vice 286 or 287)... I wonder if wins/losses against club teams may be partly to blame for the differing numbers though? Strikehold (talk) 04:32, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • F*** the NCAA record book. I had a great link for this, might have come from some Hopkins pre-game notes. I'll see if I can find it. Meanwhile, I like what you've developed - and will be glad to verify as much as possible, and of course will link to this page. Thanks ! --10stone5 (talk) 17:09, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lacrosse articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release[edit]

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Lacrosse articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

WikiProject cleanup listing[edit]

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). See the tool's wiki page, this project's listing in one big table or by categories and the index of WikiProjects. Svick (talk) 20:47, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removing Player Nationality Flags[edit]

I have been working on updating some NLL pages for the upcoming season and have noticed that most teams which have rosters on their page are horribly out of date (we're talking years behind). I believe a major reason for this is that next to each player's name is their nationality. This makes it way too hard to update because often times it is EXTREMELY difficult to find where a lesser known player was born. As such, I am starting to remove these flags from the roster section of each team's page. I hope that nobody here disagrees with this as it really isn't pertinent information anyway, and it will make it a lot easier to keep this information up to date! --Xander756 (talk) 21:30, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation needed: Eamon McEneaney and Eamon McAnaney[edit]

There is a page for McEneaney, highly regarded Cornell attackman who played in the mid-late 1970s and who died in the Towers on 9/11. There is also a Notre Dame defenseman McAnaney who played in the late 80s, early 90s is living and working as a lacrosse announcer for ESPN online sports broadcasts.

I do not know how to edit disambiguation links, and I don't know enough about the announcer McAnaney to know whether he would merit a page under the living persons standards for lacrosse. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.180.228.39 (talk) 21:17, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This WikiProject doesn't seem very active, so maybe no-one is reading this, but of your 2 remaining unreferenced BLPs, Gord Nash's is coming close to being top of the pile and someone will probably prod it if you don't whack a reference on it. You might have noticed that June Shiraishi has already suffered that fate. Or you might not have done. --Dweller (talk) 10:44, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Comment on the WikiProject X proposal[edit]

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
