African cinema task force

An African cinema task force has been proposed at WikiProject Films, which would include the cinema of Madagascar. Interested editors are encouraged to sign up - if there is enough interest, then the task force will be created! Many thanks, Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 03:47, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Article importance scale

Is there are reason why this project does not recognize "Mid" on the importance scale? Is there a way to change this? Or should I change my mid-imporantance articles to either "High" or "Low"? - Visionholder (talk) 20:41, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

  • The parameter "importance=mid" lists articles as mid-importance for WP:Africa, the parent project, but not for WikiProject Madagascar. Malagasy-specific importance can be set with "Madagascar-importance=mid". See also {{AfricaProject}} for the full range of >100 parameters the project banner recognizes :) – Sadalmelik 17:23, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 05:54, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:33, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced living people articles bot

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Madagascar/Archive 1/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Madagascar/Archive 1/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 00:39, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Madagascar articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Madagascar articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

For the Wikipedia 1.0 editorial team, SelectionBot 23:17, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject cleanup listing

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). See the tool's wiki page, this project's listing in one big table or by categories and the index of WikiProjects. Svick (talk) 20:42, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Madagascar Geography Stubs

Madagascar's geography stubs still use the old 6 province system. WikiProject Stub sorting approved creating 22 new stub types for the new regions. The discussion and proposed stub types are here for your review. If there are no objections, I will create the stubs and start re-tagging the articles this weekend. I will check back here and can also be reached at my talk page. Aelfthrytha (talk) 00:07, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Honoré N. Razafindramiandra

This article about Honoré N. Razafindramiandra is in desperate need of fact-checking and referencing. I can't find many sources although it appears he should be rather notable. Perhaps someone more familiar with the country will be able to find suitable references? --Pontificalibus (talk) 17:57, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

It sounds like it was written by a friend or member of the family - very aggrandizing! "Descendent of Ralambo"...! :P That king ruled over 400 years ago. One out of four in Imerina can probably make the claim that they are somehow related to him. In just a few seconds of scanning the sources on google books I found that during his tenure as Minister of Culture, he banned the opposition parties from accessing state print and radio media. I suppose the author thought it best not to mention how M. Razafindramiandra acted in opposition of free speech. I'd say I would get to this eventually, except there are so many other really significant Madagascar topics to develop first. But thanks for bringing this to our attention here. Hopefully someone else will have the time to do a clean up on the article before too long. Cheers, Lemurbaby (talk) 01:58, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

There is effort going on to improve this article. The tortoise is only found in Madagascar, near Baly Bay, Soalala. I've read that "Angonoka is based on the Malagasy word ‘Angonoka'", if anyone could help out with what 'Angonoka' means that would be helpful. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 03:19, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

WikiWomen's History Month

Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:Madagascar will have interest in putting on events (on and off wiki) related to women's roles in Madagascar's history, society and culture. We've created an event page on English Wikipedia (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to seeing events take place! SarahStierch (talk) 22:16, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

You are invited to participate in Wiki Loves Pride 2014, a campaign to create and improve LGBT-related content at Wikipedia and its sister projects. The campaign will take place throughout the month of June, culminating with a multinational edit-a-thon on June 21. Meetups are being held in some cities, or you can participate remotely. All constructive edits are welcome in order to contribute to Wikipedia's mission of providing quality, accurate information. Articles within Category:LGBT in Africa may be of particular interest. You can also upload LGBT-related images by participating in Wikimedia Commons' LGBT-related photo challenge. You are encouraged to share the results of your work here. Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

There's an article for deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Beramba, Madagascar- basically no-one can find evidence that the place exists. Thought it may be of interest to people at this project. Joseph2302 (talk) 17:47, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Questions regarding regions of Madagascar, specifically Anosy

I've been working on and off for several years now on the "Anosy" region where I grew up and later worked. My assumption was the more the better, but I've been requested to shorten this article as it is too long (as it turns out several years ago--just found it today--ah, well). So my questions are:
- is there anything like either a standard format for a Madagascar region or if not, a region already done that is felt to be quite good?
- if I were to I assume significantly shorten the Anosy region, what do I do with all the other info I've collected?
- Could/should I create a portal for the Anosy region as has been done for Madagascar? If so, how do I do that? Misaotra mialoha (thanking you in advance)! Tberkas (talk) 23:57, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

Contests

User:Dr. Blofeld has created Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Contests. The idea is to run a series of contests/editathons focusing on each region of Africa. He has spoken to Wikimedia about it and $1000-1500 is possible for prize money. Would anybody here be interested in contributing to one or assisting draw up core article/missing article lists? He says he's thinking of North Africa for an inaugural one in October. If interested please sign up in the participants section of the Contest page, thanks.♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 20:02, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Commons:Photo challenge February 2017 is Multilingualism

FYI, take a look in commons:Commons:Photo challenge/2017 - February - Multilingualism. I'm sure there are more nice pictures regarding Madagscar that can be proposed, if you have it stored it somewhere.--Alexmar983 (talk) 07:40, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

Upcoming "420 collaboration"

You are invited to participate in the upcoming

"420 collaboration",

which is being held from Saturday, April 15 to Sunday, April 30, and especially on April 20, 2017!

The purpose of the collaboration, which is being organized by WikiProject Cannabis, is to create and improve cannabis-related content at Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects in a variety of fields, including: culture, health, hemp, history, medicine, politics, and religion.

WikiProject Madagascar participants may be particularly interested in the following: Cannabis in Madagascar.

More Madagascar Bridges needed

Considering the long List of rivers of Madagascar, the List of bridges in Madagascar could easily have more than 2 bridges shown. Give me names of bridges, and I will attempt the articles needed.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 02:27, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

Acookoto River

The Acookoto River or Acookto River does not have any coordinates, images, inline citations or other references, but it does appear on the List of rivers of Madagascar and Template:Rivers of Madagascar. Perhaps a Madagascar editor can update this article with books, coordinates, images, inline citations or other references.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 03:10, 26 February 2018 (UTC)

Old images from Madagascar

Party from 1906!

Earlier this year Wikimedia Sweden and the Museum of World Culture uploaded 314 images from their collections of Walter Kauderns first and second expeditions to Madagascar from way back. Have a look and see if any of the images are of use, help improve descriptions and categories, ask for translations, report errors and continue to do good stuff. /Axel Pettersson (WMSE) (talk) 13:03, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:46, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
