Klockner stadium error

Construction cost on Klockner stadium was 3.4 million, not 1.2 million. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.253.4.21 (talkcontribs) 14:07, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 23:04, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Pictorial help?

I've just found this site, so I'll repost here the pics requests that I had posted on the UVa discussion page--hoping that someone here might be able to help...

  • picture of the "honor code"?

Hoping that some Hoos (or other people who've been to the university) will come across this page once in a while... Could you possibly take a picture of one of the signs with the honor code from one of the classrooms? (Or any other good picture visualizing the honor code or generally UVa traditions... :o)) If you could, uploading your picture directly to the Wikimedia Commons would be great. If not (if you have a picture and don't want to upload it yourself, don't know how, etc.), feel free to contact me, I'll be happy to help you and/or upload it in your place. It goes without saying that you'll be attributed authorship of your picture in either way (unless you don't want that). Thanks a lot for your help!! --Ibn Battuta 20:44, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

  • ... or other pictures, esp. of the pavilions?

I've entered the German article into the current writing competition at the German Wikipedia. So if any of you has (or could take) pictures of other parts of UVa and would be willing to publish them on Wikipedia--thanks a lot! (I'd be esp. interested in the pavilions: I'm dreaming of getting pictures for each of them in order to set up a table structure representing the lawn and to point to the architectural differences etc. -- but nor do we have so far pictures of the North Grounds... etc. etc.) Please feel free to contact me for any infos, help, whatever! Publishing pictures here is easy, and I'll be happy to help you with the upload as well as choosing a license you like. In short: Go for it :o)) --Ibn Battuta 19:08, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

[In case you wonder: Yes, I've tried to contact the library about the copyrights of some of their pictures of the pavilions, but haven't heard back from them, so I guess that isn't an alternative.]

Thanks for your help, Ibn Battuta 06:02, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Thought someone here ought to know that the page Ken Heilman that was being considered by the UVa WikiProject has been merged with Kenneth Heilman and a redirect left. --Glen Finney 18:19, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Mort Caplin

Stumbled across an article about a fairly noteworthy double 'Hoo and former BoV member: Mortimer Caplin, a one-time commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service who founded a law firm after leaving government.

It seems a bit tenditiously argued in spots, although I haven't given more than a cursory thought to edits (as I'm at work). But it merits adding to the project. --GGreeneVa (talk) 19:34, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

I added the article to the project, and categorized Caplin as Category:University of Virginia faculty. Tjarrett (talk) 13:22, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

This article was just assessed at a B by WikiProject Virginia. Could someone take a look at raising the assessment within this project? Tjarrett (talk) 13:29, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

College of Arts and Sciences

This article needs to be reevaluated. Its no longer a start article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Queerbubbles (talkcontribs) 18:31, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

I didn't do a full assessment, but I think the article might still be in Start, actually, based on the quality scale. Key things missing are history, images, and people. See detailed comments. Tjarrett (talk) 14:04, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Where is this?

Where is this? The right picture looks as if the column at the right side might be on the Lawn, but I don't see how this could be the rear of Lawn buildings... or where is it? And the left picture also seems to be from the academical village, but I wonder where. Both were originally tagged with "Rotunda", but that doesn't seem to make much sense. Could it be the low buildings around the Rotunda? But the portico doesn't seem to fit, and I don't know where they could have a view on such plain brick walls as in the left picture... Anyone knows? Thanks, Ibn Battuta (talk) 03:48, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Those pictures are from the new Harrison Small Special Collections library.  ;) Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 09:35, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Picture Time!

I'm going to be heading back down to C-Ville for a well needed break and decided to take that opportunity to take pictures for the various articles. I have a small list going, but feel free to throw some up here and I'll snap a few.  ;) Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 17:29, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

It would be nice to have some pictures of The Lawn that are in color instead of B&W. Maybe Carr's Hill (for the Rugby Road article)? If you're there when the library is open, you might want to ask them about including Holsinger pictures, or other pix from the library archives, in the Wikimedia Commons or otherwise releasing them under a free license. Tjarrett (talk) 19:06, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
What I meant to say as well--we really need some good commons-ready photos of people (University presidents, faculty, etc.). Those will pretty much have to come from the library, unless you can snap a candid of John Casteen while you're there. Tjarrett (talk) 19:07, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Yep, I definately have the lawn on my list. I saw they were all from 1912. Carr's Hill I'll add. People? Hmm... I still have friends who work at the library, so I'll see what I can do in terms of snapping pics of pics. And, of course, Casteen and I are like this >.< :P Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 20:22, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
I almost forgot--good clear photos of the Z, Sevens, or IMP logos on buildings, stairs, etc, would be really great. The Secret Society articles need illustrations!!!Tjarrett (talk) 13:31, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Yup yup yup... added that to my list. Although, this whole picture shoot might not happen this week. C-Ville's calling for bad weather. Poo.  :( I'll try anyway, though. Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 14:07, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Update!! Pics are now added to various c-ville and uva articles. Didnt get to hit up the library as much as I wanted to because it was closing soon. (Although, I did get to make the announcement, just like old times!) Feel free to check out my gallery if you want to add some more to things I forgot, but I'll go back down in a few and do some more. Qb | your 2 cents 16:31, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! The Cavalier Daily linkapocalypse

Everybody's favorite student newspaper/fishwrap has "updated" their web site, turning off the RSS feed and breaking all old links. I've made as many corrections as I could, but there are still broken links out there. You can help correct them if you see them (they use the old /CVArticle.asp link structure) by either searching for the article title on the new site, or using the Google cache or the Internet Archive to dig up archiveurls.

Fortunately most of the content is still there, but some pages have been totally 404'd--some old letters and editorials, and special features like faculty salaries. --Tjarrett (talk) 15:26, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for University of Virginia

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! RfC for WP:BOOSTER

There is a request for comment about whether or not WP:BOOSTER documents a standard consensus and good practice that all editors and school/college/university articles should follow as an official policy or guideline. Madcoverboy (talk) 19:35, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Milestone Announcements

Announcements
  • All WikiProjects are invited to have their "milestone-reached" announcements automatically placed onto Wikipedia's announcements page.
  • Milestones could include the number of FAs, GAs or articles covered by the project.
  • No work need be done by the project themselves; they just need to provide some details when they sign up. A bot will do all of the hard work.

I thought this WikiProject might be interested. Ping me with any specific queries or leave them on the page linked to above. Thanks! - Jarry1250 (t, c) 10:48, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 06:54, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Anyone active?

Is anyone still active? I am looking at making a Wikimedia group based out of Harrisonburg, and would like to know if anything like that exist at UVA and if people at UVA would be interested in supporting one. SADADS 17:51, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

I'm pretty active patrolling the article pages for vandalism and writing new content. I'm an alum outside the area, though. -Tjarrett (talk) 02:14, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 04:07, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

University of Virginia articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the University of Virginia articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Picture of Milton W. Humphreys's tomb

Hello. I have just created a page for Milton W. Humphreys, who taught at UVA from 1887 to 1915. He was buried in the campus cemetery apparently. Could someone please go take a picture and upload it on wikimedia commons so we can add it to his page? That would be great. Please reply on my talkpage as I won't follow this page (my watchlist is too big). Thank you.Zigzig20s (talk) 15:48, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
