Proposed merge[edit]

I am opposed to such a merge. The "Category:History of Palestine" should be preserved distinctly for the history of this tragically contested geographic region, allowing for "Palestinian history" to include exclusively entries regarding the PNA, its people, background, events, etc. Separation like this is a necessary step that could sustain at least "virtual" peace in this region ;) . @Greyshark09: I started drafting the above as a suggested navbox to be used on category pages. It already has more rows than I first had in mind. Your suggestions would be welcome (as well as anybody else's, of course). Please feel free to revise the above rather than paste new versions below.

Perhaps it could be made with collapsible sections to save space. – Fayenatic London 07:39, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Hasmoneans were preceded by the Coele-Syria area, which was disputed in territorial wars between the Ptolemaic Kingdom and the Seleucid Empire. Should this be mentioned? Dimadick (talk) 13:09, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, that has a category so I have inserted it. – Fayenatic London 15:00, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - you already have Template:Palestine (historic region) topics and Template:History of Palestine. Template:Governance of Palestine since 1948 has already been deleted. This proposal would simply be another fork, so just leave it - no chance.GreyShark (dibra) 09:54, 28 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Greyshark09: Thanks for the links, but both of those existing templates are for navigating between articles; the proposed template is for navigating between categories. It is intended for use on category pages, particularly the chronology categories (years, centuries, establishments etc). Some of those categories have been created by yourself, but their names and placement in history are not well known, e.g. IMG / ICA. Note: I have rearranged the table in a way that may be both more helpful and more acceptable than before. – Fayenatic London 21:21, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Do we have a precedent for a cat tree for the history of a region (to me a country would make more sense)? would there also be an historic cat tree for partially overlapping Levant, Southern Levant, Land of Israel, Galilee, Samaria, Judea?GreyShark (dibra) 09:59, 28 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Greyshark09: Category:Levant, Judea, Galilee etc. are geography categories; the ones in the draft template are history categories. But I see your point that partially overlapping areas make it less coherent over such a long time span. Perhaps it would be more valid & useful to confine the template to Ottoman Galilee / Palestine onwards. For that there are precedents, e.g. {{D R Congo C20 estab by decade}}. – Fayenatic London 22:31, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have implemented that section as {{Cathead modern history of Palestine (region)}}. – Fayenatic London 17:01, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I was forgetting the need for a fresh nomination to resolve the lack of consensus at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2018_October_13#Years_in_the_Israeli_Civil_Administration_Area. I intend to bring that set back to CFD (unless someone else gets there first). – Fayenatic London 22:44, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
