Glenn William Brown, Jr. is an American entrepreneur and innovator. He is the inventor on numerous patents, including those related to the Allam-Fetvedt Cycle, a process for converting natural gas into thermal energy, while capturing and reusing the generated carbon dioxide, effectively eliminating greenhouse-gas emissions.[1][2] He is co-founder and former CEO of 8 Rivers Capital and NET Power.[3][4] He is also a Strategic Advisor to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory[5] and a former Professor at Duke University School of Law.[6]

In 2008, Brown co-founded 8 Rivers Capital with fellow MIT alumnus Miles Palmer.[7] 8 Rivers, through its company NET Power, began developing technology necessary to make the Allam-Fetvedt Cycle economically competitive with standard natural gas, including the construction of a $140 million demonstration plant outside Houston that burns natural gas without emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.[7][8] In 2017, Entrepreneur magazine named Bill Brown one of its “50 Most Daring Entrepreneurs” for his work developing the carbon-capture power plant.[9]
In 2022, Brown was appointed as a strategic adviser for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), a federally funded renewable energy research and development center sponsored by the Department of Energy.[5][10]
