  • Comment: While it's likely to be notable in the future, there is still no substantive info on the game as of yet. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 21:25, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
  • Comment: The sources consist of nearly-identical announcements that the game is under development, not actual coverage of the game. The ign source does provide some additional coverage but not enough to confer notability on this topic. It is WP:TOOSOON for this topic to have an article on it in article space. I suggest waiting until the game is actually reviewed. ~Anachronist (talk) 16:33, 8 September 2021 (UTC)

Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate (Japanese: ドラゴンクエストXII 選ばれし運命の炎, romanizedDoragon Kuesuto Toerubu Erabareshi Unmei no Honoo) is the twelfth main game in the Dragon Quest series. The game was announced on May 27, 2021, the 35th anniversary of the Dragon Quest series, in a YouTube livestream.[1]

Development[edit]

The game is planned to have a simultaneous worldwide release, though no specific release date has been given. The platforms on which the game will be released have not yet been disclosed, and no gameplay footage has been released.[2]

Yuji Horii, the series creator, stated that the game will be much "darker" and more adult-themed compared to previous entries. It will put more focus on decision-making and will feature a revamped combat system, though specific details were not provided.[2]

Legacy[edit]

Dragon Quest XII will be the final mainline series entry to involve both Kōichi Sugiyama, the franchise's music composer, and Akira Toriyama, the character and monster designer. Sugiyama passed away on September 30, 2021,[3] and Toriyama on March 1, 2024.[4]
