Green Riyadh is one of the four major Riyadh projects launched by King Salman bin Abdulaziz in March 2019, and is being built by the Major Projects Committee headed by Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and it comes within the framework of achieving one of the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 by raising the classification of the city of Riyadh among its counterparts in the world's cities.

The project aims to raise the per capita share of green space in the city from the current 1.7 square meters to 28 square meters, equivalent to 16 times what it is now, and to increase the proportion of total green spaces in the city from 1.5% currently to 9% equivalent to 541 square kilometers, by planting more than 7.5 million trees, throughout Riyadh.
