Hector Izquierdo Triana is the Special Commissioner [1] of the Government of Spain for volcanic eruptions[2]. In 2024, he was awarded the Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Order of Civil Merit.

Biography

Triana was born in 1974 in La Palma. He is a lawyer, reseacher [3], Executive MBA at IE Business School first of the promotion [4] and in 2016 he received his Doctorate PhD in Economics [5] from ICADE.

Career

Triana was Secretary of State[6] for Finance Ministry of Finance,[7] during new tax regulations [8]and transfer of decision-making power, responsibilities and resources to communities.[9]President of the Spanish Tax Agency during the 20 cents[10] discount per litre of fuel as part of an overall financial plan announced to lessen the economic impact on the Spanish economy of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, [11] President of the national real state company SEGIPSA Ministry of Finance[12] in charge of more than 1,000 official buildings to adapt during the Covid 19 pandemic, Internal Audit and Compliance Director at RENFE[13] during the construction of the Haramain High Speed Railway and Professor at IE Business School since 2008,[14] he has been associated professor at ICADE, University of Deusto and invited professor​ at Notre Dame University–Louaize (Beirut), KEDGE Business School (Bordeaux, St. Xavier's College Ahmedabad, Insper-ie Sao Paulo, Saudi Aramco Dhahran to train managers after the IPO, Large Family Business Programs-ie Mexico City, Islamic Development Bank (Jeddah). In May 2013 he was Financial Times "Professor of the Week".[15]

At present he is the Special Commissioner,[16] created to coordinate and promote [17] the actions[18] adopted by the Government of Spain to repair the damage [19] caused by the 2021 Cumbre Vieja volcanic eruption and for the reconstruction [20] of the island [21] of La Palma. The lava[22] flow covered over 1,000 hectares , prompting the evacuation of around 7,000 people. The lava flow was about 3.5 kilometres (2.2 miles) wide at its widest point, about 6.2 kilometres (3.9 miles) long and reached the sea, destroying more than 3,000 buildings and 6,500 beds in towns as Puerto Naos or La Bombilla in Los Llanos de Aridane closed due to carbon dioxide (CO2) diffuse[23] degassing. It has the rank [24] of Under Secretary and it depends[25] from the Ministry of the Presidency, although functionally from the Ministry of Development (Spain).
