Koral Carballo (1987) is a photojournalist.

Biography[edit]

Koral Carballo was born in Veracruz, Mexico in 1987..[1]. She is a photographer whose work involves the exploration of the Afro-Mexican identity[2]. Her work also emphasizes on post-colonial identity, anti-patriarchal, and her own life and history[3]. She contributes to discovering the field of visual narratives in regard to identity, violence, and territory via journalism, visual arts, and documentary[4]

Notable works[edit]

  • We Were Always Here is an on-going project focusing on Afro-Descendant's everyday life and uncover the secret that maintains their traditions and identity[4].
  • Mala Hora is a visual story of the war on drugs in 2006 in Veracruz, Mexico that affected 174,000 people[5]
  • Women of the Sea: Afro-descendants honor their heritage in Mexico is a representation of Afro-descendant women in Mexico of people of Black heritage[6]
