Shannon Cohn is an American documentary filmmake, lawyer and activist.[1] Her most recent documentary, Below the Belt, premiered on PBS in 2023,[2] and is executive produced by Hillary Clinton, Rosario Dawson, Corinne Foxx and Mae Whitman.[3]

Filmmaking and documentaries[edit]

In 2016, Cohn produced EndoWhat?, a documentary focused on endometriosis and women’s health that Newsweek called "the first step in a plan for change".[4] Gabrielle Jackson of The Guardian called it "film of the year".[5]

Cohn's most recent project, Below the Belt,[2] is a PBS documentary produced by Hillary Clinton Rosario Dawson, Corinne Foxx and Mae Whitman, that shares the experiences of individuals living with endometriosis.[6]

Advocacy and social impact[edit]

Cohn's personal experience with endometriosis motivates her advocacy work.[7] She first had symptoms of endometriosis at 16 years old, but was not diagnosed until she was 29 years old.[8]

Cohn advocates for improved medical care, research, and education for endometriosis and women’s health.[9]
