Template-protected edit request on 3 November 2019[edit]

Please replace the image "File:India Jammu and Kashmir location map UN view.svg" with "File:India Jammu and Kashmir location map (2019).svg" in the template source in keeping with the administrative reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir that came into effect on 31 October 2019. Thanks, DeluxeVegan (talk) 17:05, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Would someone look into the above request? Perhaps Vanamonde93? Thanks, DeluxeVegan (talk) 17:28, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@DeluxeVegan: The old map, so far as I can see, only highlights the parts of the erstwhile kingdown of Kashmir that are currently administered by India. The new one also highlights the other parts; and I'm wondering why, and if the coloration is appropriate. I don't want to make a switch until that concern has been addressed. Vanamonde (Talk) 17:34, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Vanamonde93: The coloration in the other parts is perhaps intended to convey that India claims the regions but does not actually administer them. Something along the lines of File:India Jammu and Kashmir location map.svg, I suppose. In any case, pinging RaviC. DeluxeVegan (talk) 17:45, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but this Module isn't used to discuss the history of Kashmir, is it? My understanding is that this is for locations within the erstwhile state (now within the union territory). As such information outside its boundaries is extraneous. Vanamonde (Talk) 17:47, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Prior to the J&K reorganisation, the entire Kashmir region was claimed by India under a single administrative division. This map shows both the official and de-facto boundaries of the new union territory. --RaviC (talk) 18:45, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@RaviC: Perhaps you could upload a new file depicting only the de-facto boundaries for the purpose of this module? Sorry if I seem to be asking too much. Thanks, DeluxeVegan (talk) 18:52, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The previous version of the module made no distinction, in color, between Pakistan, China, Azad Kashmir, Aksai Chin, and so forth. This one differentiates them. I'm not saying it's necessarily incorrect; but replacing the old file with RaviC's current version would require a talk page consensus at the very least; whereas one which merely redraws the boundaries could be used without further ado. Vanamonde (Talk) 19:00, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit template-protected}} template.
Deactivating the request until consensus is achieved. Currently there's not even the start of a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Jammu and Kashmir, both locations where the projects tagged on this page discuss stuff. Template-protected edit request on 23 December 2020[edit]

Change "India Jammu and Kashmir location map UN view.svg" to "India Jammu and Kashmir location map.svg" Soumya-8974 (he) talk contribs subpages 07:27, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Why? File:India Jammu and Kashmir location map UN view.svg is a map for the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, whereas File:India Jammu and Kashmir location map.svg is for the former state. Also, the proposed map can be seen as problematic as it seems to use the same colour for Pakistani-administered Kashmir as it does for the undisputed territory of India outside of Kashmir. – Uanfala (talk) 11:59, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Map covers too much territory[edit]

This map covers way to much territory for just doing the territory of Jammu and Kashmir as a Union Territory. We can use File:India Jammu and Kashmir UT adm location map.svg instead which still shows the territory as disputed but does not show the entire disputed Kashmir region - we already have a map for the full territory here. Template-protected edit request on 11 July 2022[edit]

Change location map to File:India Jammu and Kashmir UT adm location map.svg and relief map to File:India Jammu and Kashmir UT adm relief map.svg. Change coordinates to 73.2 E (west), 77.0 E (east), 32.2 N (south), 35.3 N (north). Present map does a bad job of showing detail of the new union territory. User:Paine Ellsworth, this edit leads to [[1]] getting changed to disputed status, as the map is changed by a user on commons. Undo this change, as it unnecessarily leading to conflict, where I have reverted the changes. Only Indian side of Kashmir map is now shown as striped as disputed, while Pakistan side as seen in Muzaffarabad is shown as undisputed, this is a biased narrative. Crashed greek (talk) 05:57, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have uploaded new file by removing the disputed markings, as mentioned above by me, as the my revert to older map is undone. So please change image parameter from 'India Jammu and Kashmir UT adm location map.svg' to 'India Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory location map.svg'. So the old map File:India Jammu and Kashmir UT adm location map.svg will be replaced by File:India Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory location map.svg. Thanks. Actually, that is a mistake on my part by not showing the correct disputed for Azad Kashmir map. I will correct that. I am surprised no one has already flagged it. The File:India Jammu and Kashmir UT adm location map.svg is still usable. C1MM (talk) 15:50, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Consider me as a neutral, uninvolved template editor. What I see are two editors "upload-warring" (guess that's considered a type of edit-warring) such that the File:India Jammu and Kashmir UT adm location map.svg cannot be considered "usable". Until editors Crashed greek, NordNordWest and you, as well as any other interested editors, can come to agreement on the correct map to use, I think the map that is in place now must stay as it is. Thank you all for your continued attention and contributions! P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 00:28, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I have stopped edit warring, I have uploaded the pic as a new file, as I have been informed that 3RR doesnt apply in commons. However, the bigger map in this module had not marked the area as disputed, which stayed for all these years in all the articles. Crashed greek (talk) 08:00, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Commons' upload-warring is covered by the c:Commons:Overwriting existing files guideline, which does say When in doubt, or to resolve inter-user conflicts, upload as a new file. Now we must try to find a meeting of the minds, because it must always be remembered that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a battleground. Thanks again!
