1922 Dixie Classic paragraph[edit]

@Macae: You restored this paragraph[1], [2] which lacks sufficient citations including inline citations. The specific content has been tagged with this issue and you've also removed the tags without resolving the issue.[3],[4] Your editing clearly falls under WP:BURDEN, which you have acknowledged.[5]

Please stop your WP:DE and only restore/refactor content from WP:RS which is directly supported. A good start would be quoting any content from either prior or new citations on this Talk page and demonstrating that it supports your content. UW Dawgs (talk) 14:44, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The information that I have again restored is supported by the provided citations. Which portions of this paragraph are you claiming to not be supported by the provided references? If you believe that there is a particular point that is not supported, would you please assist and edit that point rather than deleting the entire paragraph? Thanks. In removing the edit based on a claimed WP:COPYVIO, at least it now appears that we have implicit agreement that the information WAS being supported by the citation. The task now is to provide this information without violating copyright. Given that the information is historical fact, along with the existence of the fair use principal, we should be able to figure out a way to include this information. I have added a citation referencing the 1922 Dixie Classic as being the origin of a 12th Man reference. I also attempted to reword to clarify that the 12th Man term references this event, but wasn't necessarily used at or during the event itself. If there are other suggestions with regards to wording, please feel free to edit and improve if possible. Also need to include more info on the events of the game itself and the actions of E. You've created a specific new claim[6] paired with a new source (a book) which 1) is without a page number, and 2) where the book title disagrees with your new text. It has been reverted as clearly failing WP:V. UW Dawgs (talk) 20:38, 2 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've reworded the existing claim to better match the cited source which states that the 12th Man reference/link with regards to the Dixie Classic began in 1939. The Dixie Classic therefore served as the setting for what later was referred to as the story of the 12th Man, does it not??? I've also now included the page number, although I'm not certain that the lack of a page number necessitated the removal of the citation without discussion. But a mute point now. And can you explain why you believe that the book title "The Twelfth Man: A story of Texas A and m Football" disagrees with the claim that the story of the 12th man had its basis at the Dixie Classic? Finally, the published nature of this source, along with the inline citations provided by this source would seem to indicate that this is a verifiable and reliable source. However if you would prefer, we could probably further verify by including a few more citations and sources. Would you like to assist in that effort? Macae (talk) 22:10, 2 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Correction. In going back to the citation, I realize that I mistakenly cited the wrong source. I have now corrected and apologize for the confusion that was created. In response to the quote parameter request, the quote from this book supporting the claim is rather long and seemed a bit burdensome for inclusion within the citation. Hopefully not needed now that I citing the correct source. However, to further show support for the claim, the quote is as follows: "Of these artifacts, arguably the best known.....is the story of the 12th Man. On January 2, 1922, an underdog Aggie football team faced college football's top ranked team in the Dixie Classic: Centre College....Years later, during A&M's 1939 national championship season, Gill's story....was publicized on the radio...Now what has come to be called the story of the 12th Man."
