General info discussion
[edit]Anonymus user 76.64.228.218 wrote in my talk page the following after I made some changes: The tournament is being held in Canada so distinction of field hockey is needed because hockey = ice hockey here. Also the dates are in North American format so please do not change that (as the tournament is being played here. The PAHF identifies the tournament as being held in Brampton with Toronto in brackets so leave that as well.
I'd like to see what others think to come to an understanding and decide what is best to show in the article: In my opinion, as it has been discussed so many times, the field hockey needs not to be clarified in this case because there is no Pan American Cup for ice hockey. It doesn't matter where it is played, the article has the International field hockey template below, and if you check out the competition article there it says is a field hockey competition.
The date format should be as international as possible. If we check the Date_format_by_country article, we can see that the DMY format is the most used one in the whole world, 10 times more than the MDY. Also, every other field hockey article uses the DMY, why not continue using it to make everything as homogeneous as possible?
Last but not least, the tournament is played in Brampton: it is first a city by itself, then it is a suburb of Toronto. No other article clarifies if the city is a suburb of some city or not. The last men's Champions Challenge was played in Quilmes, a suburb of Buenos Aires, but that it is nowhere said in the competition's article. For checking where the city is or near which other city it is, you can check the city's article where it is perfectly explained the location and everything one might want to know of the city.
I hear what others think about this. Thanks.--M&m89 (talk) 00:36, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- Distinction is needed because first hockey = ice hockey in Canada, and second because there are many Pan American Cups (such as the one for volleyball). For these types of articles usually the format that prevails in the country is used hence the MDY because the tournament is in Canada. Also I agree with your Brampton assessment, but PAHF writes Brampton (Toronto) on the official website [1] 76.64.228.218 (talk) 00:46, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
