Virginia Election - No Main Article

[edit]

There is a link to a 'main article' for the Virginia election, but there is no such article, and the link redirects back to this page. I suggest either creating such an article (though it is a bit early- such an article will be created eventually), or taking out the circular link. Jkaganoff (talk) 14:42, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox removal

[edit]

I restored the deleted infobox, have been reverted, and now invite discussion. Jusdafax 04:38, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how to fix that box, but Scott Walker has nothing to do with either Virginia or New Jersey, and neither of the two guys pictured are majority/minority in either of the two states. (Also, the box is made for one election, this article is about two... so I don't even know if you can fit both into it) 75.172.240.172 (talk) 04:41, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's true. Quite right. Your deletion is the best short term fix. Perhaps someone who knows political infoboxes can help. Jusdafax 04:50, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Look at the history of edits and you'll see that this is the third time somebody pointed this out and once even explicitly asked for help (July 4). But every time it got reverted and nobody cared. It's frustrating... 75.172.240.172 (talk) 04:52, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It appears the problem exists elsewhere, at United States gubernatorial elections, 2013 for starters. Jusdafax 04:57, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh shit... No, I'm not gonna earn dozens of vandalism-warnings or argue my evening away. Screw it. 75.172.240.172 (talk) 05:00, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Since this is not my area of expertise, a noticeboard may be the answer. Jusdafax 05:04, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ok after puzzling over this, it turns out the "'leader" parameter in the infobox indicates the chairman of the respective parties Governors associations. But it is extremely unclear what "leader" means and why the pictures of the leaders are up instead of the candidates, this should be fixed across the board. However, since it is not wrong, I propose putting back the infobox. We are back at the beginning. Jusdafax 06:13, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Scott Walker and Dan Malloy?

[edit]
  • If the elections are for Virginia and New Jersey, what do Scott Walker of Wisconsin and Dan Malloy of Connecticut have to do with it? And why isn't their connection to the election mentioned in the article? PlanetDeadwing (talk) 01:29, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@PlanetDeadwing: they chair the RGA and DGA, respectively. Mélencron (talk) 02:57, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
And it took me five minutes to figure out, as a poor reader of this article. Those chairpeople are not even mentioned in the article, and arguably have nothing to do with the elections being held, and their home states in particular. There have been complaints above, But every time it got reverted and nobody cared. It's frustrating. I'll give it a bold attempt once more, but it ought to be solved at a wikiproject level. No such user (talk) 15:55, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Mélencron, RaySwifty18: If you have a substantial content reason to restore those GA chairs, who did not participate in the election in any way, shape or form, are not mentioned in the article, and whose appearance in the infobox only confuses the users, please put them forward. As always, onus is on those who want to include the material. And I don't consider "this is in other gubernatorial election articles as well" a sufficiently good reason, per WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS. As for the ludicruous suggestion that You're the first to ever complain on one of the talk pages about it, so far as I can tell, check this fucking page and the article's history:

  • The template that was dynamically pulled in featured the correct map (Virginia and New Nersey) but the people and their states were incorrect two incorrect (Wisconsin was one of them). [1] - User:Plexiglasshouse
  • but Scott Walker has nothing to do with either Virginia or New Jersey, and neither of the two guys pictured are majority/minority in either of the two states. - user:75.172.240.172
  • it is extremely unclear what "leader" means and why the pictures of the leaders are up instead of the candidates, this should be fixed across the board - User:Jusdafax
  • Look at the history of edits and you'll see that this is the third time somebody pointed this out and once even explicitly asked for help (July 4). But every time it got reverted and nobody cared. - user:75.172.240.172
  • what do Scott Walker of Wisconsin and Dan Malloy of Connecticut have to do with it? And why isn't their connection to the election mentioned in the article? - user:PlanetDeadwing
  • And myself, in multiple occasions.

It is extremely frustrating to edit an article in good faith, after well-explained complaints by myself and multiple other users, only to be met with unexplained reverting and filibustering. So explain: how do those two photos accompanied with links to unrelated states help the reader's understanding of the topic? No such user (talk) 14:58, 16 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This shouldn't be difficult to understand. They head the DGA and RGA. That's listed on their respective articles, and this has been used for every previous article on U.S. gubernatorial elections by year. I don't know, maybe it's only familiar to politicos, but it should be fairly obvious why they're listed. Mélencron (talk) 17:30, 16 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This is difficult to understand, and we don't target our articles only to "politicos". Obviously, the governors-elects will become members of appropriate GAs eventually, but as far as I can tell Walker and Malloy have nothing to do with the elections at hand, and even if they do their roles are not mentioned in the article at all. Just because there is a place in this infobox for some photos does not mandate that they be used, and they occupy the most prominent place in the article. Docs for {{Infobox election}} state that image1 is "Image of Nominee, head of Party list or Party Leader", and those people are none. No such user (talk) 13:00, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Third Party/Independents

[edit]

If a third party or Independent holds a governors mansion, they are included in the infobox with the Republicans and Democrats. This is not new. I ask that there are no more edits removing it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RaySwifty18 (talkcontribs) 08:36, 17 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
