Entry list

[edit]

Shouldn’t we add an entry list by now? 147.147.200.249 (talk) 06:10, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There is no official entry list out yet, so no Robin tales fighter (talk) 08:55, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The WEC YouTube channel has confirmed that BMW will be taking part with their M Hybrid V8 LMdH (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/d_GDbLv0mXA) 2001:E68:5408:3B19:7427:E5CD:FFB1:7301 (talk) 23:13, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bennett entered with two nationalities

[edit]

What country should we display for Carl Bennett? On the Qatar entry list, he is listed as American, but on the Le Mans entry list, he is listed as Thai.

Should we display two flags, or make two separate rows with one flag for each? NASCARFan2004 (talk) 09:27, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thai, in this article he says “This collaboration carries a profound significance for me as I proudly represent Thailand on the global stage of motorsports.” LouisOrr27 (talk) 14:27, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I'd let the matter rest until we get a final entry list – but yes, Bennett has always represented Thailand. As for NASCARFan2004's question: if he changes licence somewhere down the line we can always add a note akin to Benavides' one in 2022 FIA Formula 3 Championship. In that case we'd use the flag of the last country represented. MSport1005 (talk) 16:08, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Team and Driver changes

[edit]

Just want thoughts on the is really, I’m neither for or against it but it does add useful information. @Mjb102938 @Robin tales fighter @NASCARFan2004 you seem to disagree over it. LouisOrr27 (talk) 09:52, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's something I've always found useful on other motorsport pages over the long term as it can add a lot of useful context to changes (may actually be more useful for why GT lineups change e.g. bronze drivers upgraded to silver). HOWEVER playing devils advocate against myself, it is a lengthy section compared to something like Formula One. NASCAR is a good example of a longer version though.
You guys have been doing this far longer than me though, so will do as told. Happy to work on updates for GT / past seasons if it's approved of, or I'll just save elsewhere and keep for my own benefit Mjb102938 (talk) 09:57, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t necessarily disagree, just wanted to hear what others think about it before publishing it on the main page. I do agree it’s useful to have on the page, but we should reach a general consensus first. NASCARFan2004 (talk) 10:24, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
...I should say I tried to hide it again as you'd done after turning it into a collapsible list, but completely failed so just left it for now... sorry.... Mjb102938 (talk) 10:27, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just hid the changes from the main page. It’s still in the source code, so we can always make it public again after reaching a consensus. NASCARFan2004 (talk) 10:31, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Aha, got it, thanks. Bit of source code syntax I didn't know about - still learning! Mjb102938 (talk) 10:37, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For me it kinda felt like jamming in extra information that doesn't add anything extra. You can just look at the entrylists from last year and this year to see the changes.
But if others really want to keep it, then it's okay with me. I would however suggest against doing this for LMGT3, considering it's an entirely different class from last year. Robin tales fighter (talk) 15:47, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The best examples from other motorsport pages are less about a simple cross-check from one season to the next, and more the context across a longer period of where teams and drivers have come from / gone to, and why, for people less familiar with the series to learn more. Otherwise for new fans its just names on a page. To be honest, the way I've written it out I don't think does a very good job of that at the moment so would probably look again and change things. Its a balance between adding useful info and making it too long I guess. Some series split things into drivers Leaving, Changing Teams & Entering, but I thought that would make things too long, especially when its just a shuffle of works drivers that can be explained in one sentence.
Could be right with GT-Am to LMGT3 that its less necessary to have a breakdown of who has left the series but that context still applies to newcomers etc - and many of the lineups have stayed pretty much the same from one year to the next too. Mjb102938 (talk) 16:53, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think MSport1005 below said it the best, it should add more context, instead of just listing the changes in the table. If we can do that then I'm fine with adding it. Robin tales fighter (talk) 08:05, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agree there, and some really good additions @MSport1005, appreciate it. That's sort of what I was aiming for but did it really badly I suppose! Making one addition to your edits with some additional context for BMW's entry. I'll have a go for the Hypercar drivers as I have a bit of time today but will leave it hidden in case it needs further changes Mjb102938 (talk) 08:58, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not opposed to it as a collapsible list. However, the current bullet points need a rethink cause as things stand, they barely add any additional context. They should be a useful complement to the table, not a written-form regurgitation of it. I've worked on the team changes, I think they hold a bit more encyclopaedic value now. MSport1005 (talk) 23:19, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for polishing :-) Mjb102938 (talk) 07:15, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Drivers' championship

[edit]

@Vettelisthebest, other articles doing / not doing something is not a valid reason to add / remove content from a page. Similarly to what @The359 said Space is not the issue here. Every driver earns their own points haul in the World Championship, they are not dependent on the team they are part of. On one further not, please use edit summaries appropriately "Change is hard, huh? xD" is not appropriate. @SportscarFan2004. SimplyLouis27 (talk) 21:27, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Quick question regarding non-championship entries: other series's standings (mostly single-seater championships, although the likes of British GT have that as well) contain all drivers that participated in the races without being eligible for points. This could be something worth adding, I think, especially when a championship entry is credited with a "podium" despite finishing e.g. 5th. DriverDatabase1 (talk) 08:16, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
