North South East West

[edit]

The road is described as a major East West link, and clearly from the map that is so (if the map's top is north). But parts of the article talk about the northern terminus or the southern terminus, which is odd. Surely they'd be the eastern & western termini? You might want to search the article for instances of North and South and decide whether East & West might be more appropriate. --Tagishsimon (talk) 00:24, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You have a point there. However, legislation referenced states that the termini are north and south as it mandates that Bosiljevo 2 IC is the origin (km zero) and that chainage of all motorways in Croatia originates from the western or the northern terminus. Admittedly, the road is obviously east-west route, yet Bosiljevo 2 is not west of Orehovica rather north of it.
Be that as it may, you raised a valid and constructive point, and now I see that a passage to the above effect must be included in the article text. I'll fit that in by tomorrow for sure! Thanks for the tip.--Tomobe03 (talk) 00:57, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And a further note that shall find its way into the text: the north-south orientation also stems from the fact that the A6 is a part of Zagreb-Rijeka or rather Budapest-Zagreb-Rijeka Pan-European Corridor Vc which is clearly running north-south. But as before, that's should be the article text... And as before I'll get it in there.--Tomobe03 (talk) 01:02, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Umm... Maybe this is a stupid question, but why describe it as an east-west road in the first place? Most of people in Croatia would probably see it as a north-south road anyway, due to notionally perceiving the Adriatic Coast as "south" and continental Croatia as "north".
Right, tried to take both arguments to bear... While it is true that the road appears more like an east-west route, it is also true that it is defined as a north-south route, and is considered a north-south route (for various reasons) by its users. It is also true that the norther terminus, as defined by legislation, is the northernmost end of the route, therefore it is not inconsistent with the N-S orientation. I thought I have to stick to the official and unofficial "consensus" that the road is a N-S route, yet I also felt there should be a sentence explaining this situation.--Tomobe03 (talk) 18:13, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please tell me what the word "chainage" means in the context of describing the motorway? This is not a common usage and the Wikipedia article on the subject failed to enlighten me. Thanks. --Diannaa (Talk) 20:36, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This link might be better: Construction surveying#Chainage or Station --Diannaa (Talk) 20:50, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's what I meant by chainage...--Tomobe03 (talk) 21:19, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect. If your GA reviewer feels the prose needs more work, let me know, or list it on our requests page again. Good luck! --Diannaa (Talk) 21:39, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

During several automated bot runs the following external link was found to be unavailable. Please check if the link is in fact down and fix or remove it in that case!
