Carpi FC 1909Carpi F.C. 1909 – Per Italian association football clubs articles name conventions. It doesn't matter if the logo has no periods. --Relisted. -- tariqabjotu 07:09, 4 September 2013 (UTC) CapPixel (talk) 14:44, 25 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Moved

[edit]

Someone deleted the page Carpi F.C. 1909 (which had many link to it). Instead of creating a redirect to "FC", i moved back to F.C. for naming convention before i found this page. Matthew_hk tc 13:37, 12 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

For the alleged reason on club crest: ChievoVerona was on the crest but voting game prefer Chievo Verona with space, AC Chievo-Verona srl is the club intent to call as a company and on their club website is also ChievoVerona, however with space had more google hit. Also only Juventus on the crest thus the article name space should be Juventus the common name. Please form a real naming convention rule before break it, Inter Milan already the common name rule but i did not saw the same case in Carpi. Matthew_hk tc 16:23, 12 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This just went through a requested move discussion right above, and there was no consensus to move the article. That closing decision was subsequently endorsed in a move review. If you want it moved, it will have to go through another community discussion, preferably down the road.--Cúchullain t/c 23:46, 12 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The article was moved from the name with dots to the current one without any request and with a risible motivation, in my opinion. This club does not have a common name like the most famous teams in Italy and it should be left the official abbreviation. CapPixel (talk) 19:23, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]

As a note, the naming convention for Italian football clubs involves dots in all names including acronyms, and this one should not make no exception. To all people who justify this by saying that "the logo doesn't involve dots", well: the official website clearly uses dots indeed: http://www.carpifc1909.it/wp/. So I ask for this one to be moved to the right and conventionally correct name of "Carpi F.C. 1909". --Angelo (talk) 12:24, 1 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I do agree. CapPixel (talk) 16:52, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, but this should probably be a formal WP:RM discussion. GiantSnowman 09:19, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Carpi FC 1909Carpi F.C. 1909 – In order to be consistent with the other italian football club articles. Moreover, the form with the punctuation is used almost everywhere in the club's official website. CapPixel (talk) 11:13, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per WP:CONSISTENCY with pretty much all other Italian club names. Number 57 11:32, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - no idea why anyone thought it was a good idea to base the article's name on the team's badge rather than actual sources! GiantSnowman 11:39, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Both consistency with other Italian club naming and specific sourcing of this club's name (scroll down...). cheers, Struway2 (talk) 17:09, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support for consistency, one of the five criteria at WP:NC of course, but I do note that the other part of the rationale is unsupported by policy, see below. Andrewa (talk) 16:40, 18 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - consistency with other Italian teams is nonsensical to start with. Why not consistency with European teams, or consistency with northern hemisphere teams? The fact of the matter is there is no consistent usage of full stops in abbreviations for football clubs whether FC, SC, AC, AS, etc. on a global basis. Using the club website doesn't really help either as the vast majority of the time, the club is actually referred to as Carpi without any FC / F.C. Finally and most importantly, if we are going to be pedantic about this, the name used consistently (when the club site does use its "full" name is Carpi F.C.1909, not Carpi F.C. 1909 (no space between "F.C." and "1909"), so if it must be moved, let's at least get the pedantry right! Fenix down (talk) 13:56, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Fenix down Obviously we can't use simply Carpi, since we must disambiguate with the city of Carpi but anyway the form with full stops is the most commonly used. CapPixel (talk) 16:51, 23 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
CapPixel, you're right, but the title the RM proposes to use is never used on the official website. There is NO space between "F.C." and "1909" that I could see in any instance on the club's website so to move as proposed is just as wrong. Fenix down (talk) 14:26, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. per consistency (despite in Italian C.C.I.A.A. (Chamber of Commerce) Crotone just F.C.Crotone, Carpi just Carpi F.C. 1909, Inter Milan just F.C. Internazionale Milano S.p.A. (all with dots); while Bologna had officially register as Bologna Football Club 1909 SpA.) Matthew_hk tc 20:05, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

CapPixel, please note that according to WP:NC, whether or not the form with the punctuation is used almost everywhere in the club's official website is of little relevance to this discussion. See WP:official names for more on this. Andrewa (talk) 16:40, 18 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Andrewa: Well, if we have to use the most common name for the articles tile, it has some relevance... CapPixel (talk) 07:36, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Some, yes, but not nearly enough to justify a move. All those who refer to the club have some relevance. The official website may be a good indicator of popular usage, but we can't assume this. We require evidence. Andrewa (talk) 09:59, 20 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Andrewa And where is the evidence that the form withouth full stops is more popular? Nowhere. CapPixel (talk) 16:49, 23 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The onus of proof is on those proposing the move. (Others joining the discussion, please note that I support the move. This discussion is just about he reasons. Some given above are IMO invalid.) Andrewa (talk) 15:37, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
