Including the lyrics is a copyvio. Matt 20:47, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Link Wray has a great song with this name, how are we going to solve the issue if an article about it is created?

Easy; move this article to Ace of Spades (Motörhead song) and the other would presumably be at Ace of Spades (Link Wray song). Fix up links and add to Ace of Spades (or create a separate disambiguation page) and we're all set. See also Wikipedia:Disambiguation. 82.92.119.11 22:55, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Japanish?

[edit]

"...as well as a Japanish import, with a picture insert and lyrics in English and Japanese."

Somehow, I don't think that's quite right.

Fixed, thanks. --Alf melmac 20:01, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge

[edit]

Shouldn't Ace of Spades (song; live) be merged into this? robertjohnsonrj 18:49, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

They are two distinct objects as far as I'm concerned, this was suggested when I wrote the two and because of my resistance it was taken to VfD (as it was then), I'm still very disinclined to having these two different singles merged into one article. Maybe the "song" (for "singles") naming convention is partly to blame for this? --Alf melmac 18:55, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Still no change there.--Alf melmac 06:12, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speed Metal?

[edit]

Couldn't you consider this song speed metal? i think speed metal describes ace of spades better than hard rock. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.5.155.191 (talk) 12:32, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Speed metal should be added in addition to the genres already there. Whiffle Ball Tony (talk) 20:05, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree also; Speed Metal is a really known genre for this kind of music, s`pecially for this band. Carlox23 (talk) 04:03, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

it's sorta speed-metal-punk, and has come back to life in a modified form in The Offspring's "Hammerhead" (both are amazing, engaging songs) 199.214.27.32 (talk) 21:47, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How's about trimming down the "In Popular Culture" section, you know, to things that really are in popular culture? For example - how important is it in the grand scheme of things that the song was played 128 times in a row at a bar in Toronto? AllGloryToTheHypnotoad (talk) 18:32, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Added the live appearances of the song and in the process tried to restructure the article a bit more coherently. I agree with the above comment, I think the In popular culture section, and even the cover versions section, contain a lot of inane trivia. Perhaps those with a more vested interest in the artclie may wish trim some of this stuff. Drwhawkfan (talk) 12:37, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

covers

[edit]
It was also covered by Drain Sth. This is a note worthy cover as drain was considered grunge though they started after the death of Kurt Cobain

(most bands after his death were considered post-grunge.. They also had popularity during the nu-metal era and some music historians consider them nu-metal.. They had a note worthy cover.. -Frogg.. 7/28/08 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.82.9.80 (talk) 10:53, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted the item that said that the first 30 seconds of Metallica's Whiplash sounded like main riff of Motorhead's Ace of Spades. It is not a cover and the claim isn't even true. -Ttcfcl (talk) 05:07, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

merge

[edit]

Please note : There is a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Songs/coverversions with the purpose of trying to establish a standard rule for merge/separate different versions of the same song. Please make known your opinions on the matter. --Richhoncho (talk) 11:57, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

another cover

[edit]

Del Amitri used to do a cover of this in their live performances. You can find a video on Youtube of this and I have certainly been present at a concert when they have covered it. Kateab (talk) 10:47, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Blues version

[edit]

There's a blues version of this song, apparently also recorded by Motorhead, floating around. See, for example, youtube copy here. Does anyone have details of where this recording can be found, when it was released, etc? JulesH (talk) 15:44, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It was recorded specially for Kronenberg 1664's 'Slow the Pace' Advertising campaign and featured in their television advert, showing Motorhead playing it in a pub. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.13.145.161 (talk) 20:39, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It was written by George Formby, not Motorhead

[edit]

Don't want to burst the mythology of this song for its fans, or dispell the idea that motorhead are geniuses, but don't you think we should respect the reality of who wrote this song?

If you look into the video itself it's clearly a prank. The description even says it's not him. It doesn't even sound like the Formby. 108.81.33.59 (talk) 04:31, 29 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously this business about GF is a joke, however, it gets me thinking how much fun it would be if Half Man Half Biscuit were to do a cover version. I can just imagine Nigel Blackwell's deadpan "The only cahd I need is, the ice of spides, the ice of spides." All in good fun. 137.53.241.63 (talk) 17:15, 27 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Covers

[edit]

Seems like lots of cover versions have now gone, after "greatly trimming, per WP:SONGCOVER," by Binksternet in Sept 2015. His edit summary said: "Singles are notable but B-sides, bonus tracks, album tracks and most TV and live performances are not" But we are now left with a sum total of one, for a band without any Wikipedia article, and supported only a claim from the band's own website. What happend to balance? The previous entries seem to be still available under the additional information at this rockabilly cover by Canadian band Coal, like a little 2001 Wikipedia time capsule. Hayseed Dixie have also done a bluegrass version, of course, but that was only on national live UK TV and with 1,699,661 views on YT. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:40, 31 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

And that's now 2,133,690 views. Still WP:PRIMARY, of course.Martinevans123 (talk) 17:57, 27 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
