Welcome!

Hello, Reaper7, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Hey you *&^#*" Latinus!! Anyway, I knew this was coming. Welcome! Just don't forget to add your signature (those four "~")in the end of whatever you write. Also, place smthng in your userpage, so that your name doesn't appear red...  NikoSilver  (T)@(C) 22:48, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tsiartas[edit]

Saw your first article. Congrats! I'll make a few minor corrections, if you don't mind.

Keep up the good work!

Bravo. An milas kala, mporoume na grafoume ellhnika o enas ston allo (ki an exeis kai ellhnikous xarakthres akoma kalytera). Article corrections done. Check 'em out here. You are very close to perfection! Look carefully at the minor changes I made for your future articles. I'll have someone check whether we can remove the annoying tag ontop of the article (already done while editing this message, without my notification, see article talk). Click edit to see the code of this message too (as an additional tool for future articles/talks). Again, congratulations!  NikoSilver  (T)@(C) 10:59, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and I shouldn't have forgotten to award you! You can copy this award on your user page (along with other information about yourself) and be proud of it! Congratulations!  NikoSilver  (T)@(C) 15:22, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Awards and stuff[edit]

Awards should be given carefully NikoSilver, otherwise they loose their meaning. You're very fast to award user Reaper for only one article, but you didn't even criticize him for calling me a fool and an idiot. Instead you advised him how he can continue using insulting words and get away with it. Very noble of you! Back to the rewards - I noticed that some users exchange awards as if they were baseball cards (It reminds me to Greece exchanging 12 points with Cyprus on Eurosong EVERY YEAR). You can do it if you like it, but you can guess how the others see it. Just my 2cent. --Realek 16:47, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You address to me, Realek, and yet you paste this message in the newbee's talk page. How very thoughtfull of you! Congratulations for your impartiality! Did you even read Vassilis Tsiartas, or compare it with other footballer's biographies? I bet you didn't.
I am also certain that if the user had expressed pro-FYROMian feelings in the talks, it'd be you that would award him a Barnstar, even without any first article at all! And you can be certain of this: I would NOT violate WP:BITE and WP:AGF just to make a silly (here you go!) point in another persons' talkpage!
 NikoSilver  (T)@(C) 17:04, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
PS By the way, last time I checked all your significant contributions I didn't see any bolded N (standing for New Article, if you don't even know what that is).
PS2 What does "I strongly advise you to refrain from using bad language towards other users." mean? Is it an ecouragement to swear to you? Did you even notice that he said "Sorry to offend anyone"?  NikoSilver  (T)@(C) 17:04, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't just give away awards, because they are ment to be earned - not exchanged between greek users. I could have given away and received a lot of meaningless awards (there are a lot of Macedonians here, but I guess we don't do that. Anyway, my N articles are in the Macedonian Wikipedia. Here on the English I'm forced to fight FOGOPian vandalism all the time. Finaly lets look at your advice to Reaper to refrain from using bad language. You only advised him that to aviod blocking. You didn't say he was wrong to do it. Instead you advised him how he can use "softer" insults and get away with it. And please dont preach me about WP:BITE and WP:AGF. I felt you breaking them on my own skin so many times. --Realek 20:34, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just watch and learn in what context you may use the word "silly", Reaper7. It seems, you'll need it more than I originally thought.  NikoSilver  (T)@(C) 19:03, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What are you trying to do now in the article? I am online, I can help. Ask me...  NikoSilver  (T)@(C) 21:27, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

All done, what do you think filemou? Got the image from a friend and a great one I think!Reaper7 21:53, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good job, for the most part. Let me give you a few additional hints:
  • Remove the copyright logo from the text of the image in the article. People may misinterpret it.
  • The guideline for pics is to crop them on the main subject. Do that next time with an image editor before you upload one.
  • Be absolutely certain on the copyright status of your image. Otherwise, wikipedia will delete it to save you (and itself) from copyright trouble.
  • When you want to indent your comments do not use tab, or spaces. Instead, place ":" (or "::" or ":::" etc) before the first word. If you use space(s) or tab(s) you get the following result (which I corrected in your comment above):
There's a space before this comment!
  • Use the "Show Preview" button to be sure that your changes are immaculate before you press save. That way, you (and other users) will be able to view a clearer history of the article (click it for Tsiartas').
  • Use "history" (top of article tab) to view changes of other users in your articles. Press "diff" to see the changes.
  • Change your prefs (top right) to "watch" all pages you edit (very practical).
  • Use a star ("*") before sentences to create this bullet effect.
    • Use two stars ("**") for this one! (and so on, as with the ":")
  • Press "edit" in my comments (or wherever you want) to see the code of anything you are interested in reproducing.
  • Use three apostrophies for bold text. Two for italics. Five for bold italics.
  • Draw lines seldomly (almost never). You only need four "-" to draw one line, the rest are redundant.
I'll give you more hints later sometime, BUT, RTFM, as Latinus suggested in his Welcome message above!! (click to find out what that means)

After extensive edit warring, article protection, and the statement of the extended version supporting side regarding both the name of the article, and the intro paragraph, a poll has been placed. The brief version supporting side is to keep the name of the article AND the intro paragraph free of the UN name (FYROM). Keep in mind that you can select more than one of the options (8! to the moment) that may suit you. Please participate in the vote and ask other editors you know to do so too. Increased participation can make the outcome of the vote as NPOV as possible.  NikoSilver  (T) @ (C) 16:43, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Niko, been blocked from making any editing on your user talk because someone called testi 321 or something vandalised on my IP???(I am going mad with this), also why has mine and other votes on option#4 on the poll been deleted, the option with more deleted votes by pluribus than any other. Mine survived for like 8 days while others around me got removed than finally mine and some others got removed today for Suffrage!!! What is the point of asking me and others to vote is they are all deleted? And the other options are protected?? Reaper7 21:57, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

One by one:

1) Vote: sorry, my fault. I shouldn't have asked you in the first place, because it clearly states that nobody can participate if he hasn't been around earlier than March 1st. I had no idea, but should have read the rules before I invited you. (you know I don't like it more than you do)
2) IP what? who? when? and most important: FOR HOW LONG?
You can go and use another PC somewhere if you want and if you remember your password.
Thank God I am "watching" this page, or I wouldn't see your message. Continue talk below.

I'd also suggest you totally remove your comment so that the sketch remains at the bottom (to... rub it in better). Let THEM disagree. Talk page edits[edit]

Article talk pages are for discussing how to improve the article, not for arguments about the subject of an article. Edits designed to "cause distress" (your words) or antagonize people of a particular nationality are simply not OK. They violate Wikipedia policy and I invite you to stop now. Jonathunder 23:18, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

- Will do, I thought it was important in educating members but I can see your point, I will refrain from commenting on the situation as i have done any further. However, I can't remember writing the words 'cause distress' and indeed have no aim to do so and doubt I have. Also I was not argueing with anyone, so that comment was lost on me too. I wonder slightly if you even understand the politics involved as I don't see how my post could in your words 'cause distress'. I was talking politics and why Greeks have been the victims of FYROM politics inorder to influence neutrals who know nothing but still comment on one side as there are a few.Reaper7 23:27, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I appologise however if the following statement distressed or deeply wounded(seferis) anyone:

Feeling sorry about Slavs To claim someone's history, symbols and culture is bad enough, but ask yourself why they have to do it - the answer to that question gives me sympathy for them. Archimedes was born in Sicily, do you hear any Italians claiming him as Italian? LOL, of course not. Other Greeks have been born around the world but stayed Greek and encouraged Greek culture, non more than Alexander the Great who spread Hellenism across the known world at the time. That is called background Politis - little lesson for you, if some slavs who came down in the 5th Century AD want to take this history - it is going to take more than 2 liberals and 20 slavs to change it on this site. Even if the UN, EU, Nato, all organisations did not agree with Greece - we would still fight. If they claimed to be the spiritual descendants of Alexander fine, let them have everything. This little American puppet state let me tell our viewers has claimed Greeks to be Africans in DNA tests, have said Greeks are not in anyway responsible for the Macedonian empire of the 3rd Century BC but only them - a bunch of Bulgarian Slavs who came down in the 5th Century AD and after. I say let them have their day in the sun, many on here have not even heard the Greek side or aknowledged the horrors of what their state claims about Greeks, a race that has given more to the world then any other. When this issue is ressolved, those who built this page or encouraged it who are non slavs will scratch their heads or maybe read for once in their lives and see what this state was claiming - they were never going to get away with the biggest cultural fraud of the century since Hitler claimed his race were the true descendants of the Arians. The FYROMs have also tried to prove their case through DNA (like the Nazis)accusing the Greek people of being closely related to Africans not connected to Macedonia and them ofcourse...direct descendants of Alexander the Great's people themselves, I know this is hard to believe for someone not from Greece or the Baklans but this was actually the country's most famous recent propaganda (look at the names of the researchers..no bets on which little state they are from): http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=11260506&dopt=Abstract

Luckily this paper was laughed out of the academic community due to the fact the gene they were looking at had nothing to do with descent - according to them the Japanese are also more african then modern Syrians, LOL: http://www.nature.com/cgi-taf/DynaPage.taf?file=/nature/journal/v415/n6868/full/415115b_r.html

and Greece could only sit back and laugh at the audacity of the attempted pure race and eugenics card used on them ala Nazis propaganda. Now we have liberals on this site who think Greece is an old Monster, lol, but have not even attempted to research the dispute which is very clear with huge assumptions declared. Greece has been the victim in history many times and now is the case far more than this small band of slavs everyone is confused at including the Bulgarians who see them as confused Bulgarians paradoxically. I feel sorry for them. Their culture and modern state is built on denying who Greeks claim to be and then inserting themselves in the hole conviently created.Reaper7 21:23, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

Byzantine flag, eh?[edit]

Since when are the stars, the moon and other astronomical creations the property of one nation or empire??? Quote: "As far as I'm aware the crescent and star combination has a heritage directly linked to the Babylonian cult of Inana (who if I'm not mistaken was usually depicted as crowned with the crescent and star combination) - and with the numerous other equivalent female fertility cults of near eastern antiquity (e.g., the cult of Isis). Its subsequent adoption as an Islamic symbol is similar to the Christian appropriation of pagan symbolism elsewhere (e.g., the various European "Black Madonnas"), and is testament to the persistence of ancient systems of belief into late antiquity and early modern times." How about that for a theory? So let's stop this effort to appropriate everything in Turkey to Greeks and Byzantines.. Now that you mentioned it, maybe I should go to the Byzantium article and mention this.. Baristarim 22:37, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NO obviously you are confused severely, what I am saying, is that it is a little more than a coincidence to anyone with 20% of a brain the fact that the flag of byzantium at the time of its fall to the Turks was a moon and star, this should not be grouped in the theories section like Attaturk's dreams, LOL. But please - what I posted was obviously not for you, don't care if the Byzantiums got it off the Eygptians who got it off Martians - that is not the point, it was the flag of Byzantium and that is fact and that is where the Turks aquired it, and it is a little more than a 'theory' to a non Asiaitic Turk. Reaper7 22:55, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, not neccessarily.. It didnt originate from the Byzantines [2], so it is quite possible that Turks got it from the other peoples of the Middle East and Persia before - please see this [3].. It explicitly states that this symbol has been assumed as being transferred via battles, but the true origin is the cultural movements of the Middle East.. Seljuq Turks and other Muslim Turkic tribes used this symbol on various occasions before the fall of Constantinople.. OTOH, I agree that there are certain legends mentioned in that page, and they should be clearly labelled as such.. Baristarim 23:09, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have changed the structure of the page with regards to the origins of the crescent moon and star.. Take a look and tell me what u think.. Baristarim 23:27, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The word legends is wrong, this was the Byzantium flag whether it was given by God or originated in 9000BC, when the Turks came, that was the flag of the city they conquered - not the flag they came with, it is not a legend, King Authur is a legend - elves and fairies are legends, not the moon and star of byzantium that the turks saw flying on the city walls when they took the city. Reaper7 19:25, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't listen to the turk, he has been propounding the 'sun theory of languages' (Ataturks famous dreams!) over on the language pages :D :D :D
It is not nationalism, and I was the one who sourced the Babylon and Isis origins. Listen, this has nothing to do with nationalism or anything, I changed the section title to "Theories and legends". I agree that the dreams are legends, however the Byzantium bit is a theory as well, and your pushing it of as absolute truth is also POV - considering that crescent and star has been a Mesopotamian symbol for thousands of years (Isis and Babylon existed much earlier before the Macedonian invasions, sorry!). The correct place for that theory is under the theories and legends section, not under a section of its own.. And yes, the Turkic migrations bit is very relevant, since the article is about the flag of Turkey. Cheers! Baristarim 03:04, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey friend[edit]

I noticed you say Athens is soon going to have a very big public park, I heard about this too, could you give me links? (preferably in english - but i dont mind spending a bit more time to read it in greek) So i can reada bout it.

Give me some days, there is not much in English because as you know in Greece, it takes years for details to be decided. However if it is done it will easily be the biggest metropolitan park in Europe as it is the site of the old airport known as hellenikon which streches along a large section of the athens coast. Here is a winning prize for the design, hopefully they do not take too much of the park for housing which is being debated:

Nice article this Ergotelis FC! I had no idea about the Junta thing and OFI! Do you have a citation for that? I'd love to read the spicy details! Keep up the good work! NikoSilver 23:07, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I'm curious: How do the Cretans call Dragan Nacevski? And what happens when they play in Salonika or Kavala etc? NikoSilver 23:09, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well Kerkyra FC have on loan a player called vance sikov who is now owned by Olympiakos and before that belonged to Xanthi FC, also Egaleo FC have a defender Goran Popov, another FYROMian. To be honest all these players act professional and never mention politics, so all the fans leave them alone. As for the Junta influencing transfers from Ergotelis to OFI Kreta, a fan of OFO told me this, I will ask him if he has any links! Reaper7 02:34, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are destroying the article with your nationalism, the theory is not a legend but as a poor member of wiki you must have it listed under that list. Secondly you are trying to include the turkish migration even though it has nothing to do with the byzantium sub text and is a shallow attemp at a strange form of nationalism it has nothing to do witht he theory, sorry. I am now reporting you just so you have time to form an arguement in your defence.

Reaper7 02:58, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to reorganize the article. I would really appreciate it if you didn't accuse me of nationalism and what else every single time. I haven't written the article, so I am trying to do the best I could. Baristarim 03:43, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Greeks in Egypt[edit]

  • You can contest a proposed deletion (prod, not AfD or speedy delete) yourself simply by removing the prod template. I've done so for you on the Greeks in Egypt article. I warn you though, that article strikes me as an attempt to push an agenda and so probably violates WP:NPOV. I will check back in a few days to see if any additions have been made. eaolson 14:33, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Constantinos Tsakiris[edit]

A Proposed Deletion template has been added to the article Constantinos Tsakiris, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of the page. AfD nomination of Constantinos Tsakiris[edit]

Constantinos Tsakiris, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that Constantinos Tsakiris satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Constantinos Tsakiris and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Constantinos Tsakiris during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 21:25, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

REF IMPROVE TAGS[edit]

I noticed you putsome tags in the Elgin marbles article. Now I think these were not correct due to the fact that many points made in the article are common knowledge, but before we get into that, surely you will be kind enough, (since you believe in tagging sections with no references), to tag these in the British Museum just to prove you are no deliberately and with British Bias tagging an article that appears to you to be bias. Here are the sections with no references at all:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Museum#The_largest_building_site_in_Europe_.281825-50.29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Museum#Department_of_Conservation.2C_Documentation_and_Science http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Museum#Libraries_and_Archives http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Museum#Department_of_Coins_and_Medals http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Museum#Department_of_Prehistory_and_Europe

and the most shocking:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Museum#Department_of_Greek_and_Roman_Antiquities

1 reference for 1 item a huge section, can you believe that?

So surely now I have told you and seeing you are familiar with how to tag, I will leave it to you. I await your response eagerly. Reaper7 00:24, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

I hadn't looked at or reviewed the British Museum article and yes, I would agree that the refimprove tags should be added to several sections of that article- perhaps that will be my next project. If you feel strongly about them, feel free to add them now (I will not remove them, as I agrre with you), but otherwise I will wait until I get chance to also start working on that article. I don't think it fair to add tags and then just leave the article without working on it. You may have noticed that I havent worked on the Elgin Marbles article for a while, this is because I am busy writing a journal article for my job- which obviously (as it pays the bills) takes precedence.

I would also like to add, since you seem adamant that I am anti-Greek (or something along those lines), that I am far from it. Prior to reading the article on the Elgin Marbles I had no opinion on the subject of their return and knew very little baout their history. Upon reading the article, I couldn't believe that everything was so one sided, so started reading around the subject, and found that in truth it wasn't. Yes, the subject of their return is controversial and I agree that, in an ideal world, the Parthenon would have all its marbles still attached in pristine condition- but we both know that isn't possible. Please stop acussing me of vandalism- I have not vandalised any article on wikipedia- I have only provided a more balanced view- and if you look objectively at my changes, I have made both pro British and pro Greek changes and found reliable references for both points of view. Yes I am British and as such may have inherent bias, as you do towards your own nationality, but I am trying to keep that bias out of the changes to articles. The sole reason most of my changes so far have been pro British is simply that the article was so biased before hand, that that was what was required to balance things up. I would like to start working on the section that describes tha marbles, as that seems to be lacking alot- although this info maybe covered elsewhere on Wikipedia.

Thanks again for highlighting the problem of the British Museum article, as I say, that will very likely be the next thing I work on...

Bullied[edit]

Stethnel is trying to bully us, we came up with a majority, you completed the edit, he undid it like he undid mine claiming we have no majority. Now he has just split the article himself because.. he makes his own rules?. -- Reaper7 (talk) 19:13, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Reaper, arguing with Sthenel is like arguing with a 3 year old. Frankly, I'd rather not spend my time on Wikipedia getting into a pointless edit war over an article for a club I don't even support - I'll leave that to the Olympiacos supporters on Wikipedia. I just wanted to see some uniformity across all Greek football articles... Dragases (talk) 14:06, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Brazilian passport "lies"[edit]

You have written on the Brazilian passport talk page that the "Visa-free" section was "telling lies." You did not say that it was incorrect, imprecise or outdated (which, in spite of our efforts, it might well be, like all similar sections in articles about national passports). What you said was that it told lies, and that is a very serious accusation, because it implies malicious intent to deceive readers. As one of the contributors to that article, I would ask you to please state precisely on that article's talk page why you think we are liars. --UrsoBR (talk) 20:52, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please calm down both. Yes, Reaper used a strong word without backing it with sources, which is wrong, but, at the same time, UrsoBR, you also know that it is another thing to say that this is a "lie", and another thing to say that the x person is a "liar". And Reaper did the first; not the second.--Yannismarou (talk) 19:27, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your evidence section, at this point it appears to be a lot of arguments/conclusions but little in the way of actual evidence. I suggest taking a look at Wikipedia:Arbitration guide#Evidence for a better understanding of what is most effective in convincing the Arbitration Committee. Please let me know if you have any questions. KnightLago (talk) 14:31, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, please don't edit other people's "evidence" sections, as you just did [8]. Mere "support" or "oppose" statements are already pretty useless on the workshop page, but on the evidence page they are definitely disallowed. It's not meant for discussion. – Besides, the section you edited consisted of old "support" votes from elswhere that Tasos was merely quoting, so you totally messed up his evidence. Discuss this

The article Stavros Papadopoulos has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

no sources, heavily POV and Peacockish tone, article solely exists for the promotion of the subject.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Constantine 06:56, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Good, if the article was not about that businessmen, I have no problem with restoring it. However even the football manager has no sources, and his claim to notability, while probably undisputed in Greece, remains be established for an English-language international encyclopedia. If you could find some articles in newspapers that concern him, it'd be great. I only tag articles for deletion in very rare cases, usually when someone is blatantly trying to promote himself, his business or some obscure local businessman/politician/etc. without any notability... I'll remove the PROD following your explanation, but please provide some sourcing and more info as to his origin etc. Otherwise it will probably get deleted either way if it ever gets nominated for WP:AFD... Regards, Constantine 15:49, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Ukrainian Civil War 2014 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Talk: Macedonia (ancient kingdom). You weren't being disruptive, but the template does not imply wrongdoing, and there was disruption, and it appears that arbitration enforcement is likely to have to kick in. Robert McClenon (talk) 03:08, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification. I was worried because it takes very little for certain members to report others. It is also a very difficult subject in general because certain members like Luxure and Taivo use original research and research from the country the Republic of Macedonia to go against the consensus of neutral sources. I think it is best to use neutral sources, however rarely if ever do neutral sources agree with the ideas and hopes of the slavic macedonians and that is where the trouble begins. They have had massive success editing wikipedia articles to their doctrines but unfortunately there are now some Greeks online who wish to reestablish academic consensus rather than original research and this is where the problems stem from. I hope that makes sense. Reaper7 (talk) 12:19, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Reaper7, dont worry I received it too. Apparently Robert McClenon has sent those alerts toanyone in the Ancient Macedonia discussion apart from Luxure and Macedoniarulez so to anyone not supporting the United Macedonia concept. Stevepeterson (talk)

Dear Reaper7, thank you for sharing your opinion in the request for consensus. Can you please visit the page again and add your opinion here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Macedonia_%28ancient_kingdom%29#Request_for_Comment_2

The Consensus has been cancelled and there is an Official Request for Comment now. Thanks Stevepeterson (talk) 03:00, 26 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It is an effort to threaten contributors who disagree with radicalisms such as this of Macedoniarulez and/or Luxure (i believe its the same user). Apparently it is ok in WP to express the insulting opinion that Greek Macedonians are settlers in their own land (of historic Slav Macedonian Alexander the Great) and the terrorising opinion that Republic of Macedonia should annex Greek Macedonia because it comes from a small sympathetic (by the G Bush administration due to their symbolic support in Afghanistan and Iraq) ultra-nationalistic state but it is not OK to bring valuable sources about the indisputable Hellenic character of Ancient Macedonia, something unrelated to modern politics and does not insult or threaten any nation. Stevepeterson (talk) 03:09, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well I don't know what to say. FYROM did send troops to Iraq, 100 troops or something.. it makes sense the USA would immediately recognise the name Macedonia afterwards, which they did as part of the deal. Shame that appears to have spread to editors. Revisionism on here I think is here to stay, there is no point fighting it or getting passionate as the pro-Fyrom editors will play the victim and try to get you blocked. Taivo is far too strong. Best just to take it on the chin and not argue with academic sources, as that annoys them. Just let them change everything. When there is a civil war again in Fyrom, we can change everything back in accordance with academic reality. The US may love FYROM, but it loves Albanians more. Reaper7 (talk) 12:04, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I agree and I dont bring any more references. Taivo is strong. Luxure/Macedonianrulez is also getting stronger, despite his balkan manners. I have nothing against FYROM, dont take me wrong, I actually wish the Slav Macedonians resolve their problems with the Albanian Macedonians, then the country will elect someone less old-fashioned Balkan nationalist as a leader and a solution may be found so that none of Greece, Bulgaria and fyROM have to waste so much diplomatic energy on a nonsense Balkan vendetta. Stevepeterson (talk) 13:11, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sad to say, I think it will get far worse before it gets better. The sheer dedication of the users insistent on the dehellenization of these pages is mind blowing. They are organised and have unlimited hours. Also with the US & UK backing the Slavo Macedonians, there is little hope I am afraid. Only a war in the republic of macedonia will weaken the propaganda machine that is currently very healthy. Reaper7 (talk) 13:53, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Adding categories[edit]

Hello. When you create a new category, it's really important that you categorise it to put it within the category hierarchy so that humans and maintenance bots can find it. Browsing the existing hierarchy or using WP:HOTCAT are both good ways to find suitable parent categories. In doing so you may find categories that duplicate the new one - for instance I'd suggest that Category:Christian cities in Lebanon was unnecessary when we already have Category:Christian communities in Lebanon. Cheers Le Deluge (talk) 18:56, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the interest. Unfortunately I feel communities and cities have different meanings. Community by its essence is a poor way to describe the majority populace of a city or town. A community is a good way to describe a minority or a even a small populace - it does in no way describe a majority in its natural definition. Majorities are usually described as a majority. For example there are shia, sunni and christian communities in nearly all towns in Lebanon - almost unique in the Middle East - however - many neutrals are interested in the majority population in each town/city and this new category enlightens the reader. However this is only my opinion. I am sure someone somewhere would be interested to know through a category where each small or large christian community lives even if there is almost everywhere in Lebanon to various degrees. This new category is about majority religions in towns and cities. Reaper7 (talk)

Caution about licensing images[edit]

It's too late now, but I hope it became clear to you that any image you license for use in Wikimedia projects is also irrevocably licensed for reproduction, modification, etc., including commercial exploitation and re-use. That's the only kind of license we accept. --Orange Mike | Talk 23:58, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that was the only licence I could use for a 140 year old pencil sketch I own and want to show on wiki, correct? Reaper7 (talk) 02:49, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Vice Media sexual harassment scandal[edit]

Hello Reaper7,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Vice Media sexual harassment scandal for deletion, because it appears to duplicate an existing Wikipedia article, Vice Media.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Arthistorian1977 (talk) 12:07, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Arthistorian1977,
I think the article has a right to exist and will grow both in size and relevance if given a chance. The VICE Media article already has plenty of articles created around it to carry the ever growing weight of information. I think this is important story. The article already has plenty of references, more information, references and detail than the sub section that spawned it and it also has categories and a link from the original VICE Media page. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact me. Reaper7 (talk) 14:49, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Empire of the Greeks[edit]

You shouldn't be surprised that your contributions were reverted. They had no sources and they made very broad claims, not only that the empire was called the Imperium Graecorum, but that "it was considered Greek" (whatever that means). Then on Talk, your first few comments also had no sources.

Your most recent comment seems to have some good sources for your point about the name Empire of the Greeks (though you could probably improve on them), so write them up properly in the Nomenclature section with proper footnotes (which you didn't do before). Don't make claims that aren't supported by the sources (e.g., about ethnic identity), and give the proper context (why did the westerners use that term?). Keep it concise.

Once that section goes through some collaborative editing, then use that fact to add the name "Empire of the Greeks" (with only minimal detail to contextualize it) to the lead.

Editing collaboratively and productively on Wikipedia is about both content and process. --Macrakis (talk) 21:59, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your "testing of the waters" was disingenuous. Of course any major new claim is going to be reverted if (a) it gives no sources; and (b) it puts content in the lead that isn't supported in the body. And then you re-inserted the same material, which is an aggressive move. Don't break the rules and then cry "bias!".

As for the "bias" you perceive, I think what you are seeing is the result of years and years of highly tendentious edits pushing nationalist perspectives (the Greeks are of course not the only ones who do this) rather than the scholarly consensus. Editors want to avoid any national biases, whether they are pro-Greek or pro-Albanian or pro-Turkish or pro-imperialist. New material that appears to be pro-X is immediately suspect if it is not well documented. Your contribution might have been in good faith, but you have just admitted that it was not.

Re: "I have no interest in perusing the matter however as I can see how the page is controlled." First, you are being too cynical here. It is not "controlled". Secondly, if you have no interest in pursuing the matter, why are you wasting our time? We are here to build an encyclopedia, not to fight. Sometimes it take a lot of discussion to get to a consensus -- admittedly, sometimes too much.

Re: "the battle is still going on as there is plenty of modern political aspects that have major backing". I think what you mean is that politics spills over into Wikipedia. Of course it does. Our job as editors is to resist that as much as possible. In many cases, we have succeeded. But it takes work and good faith.

Re: "even though we were on opposite sides" I am on the side of scholarly accuracy. I hope you are on the same side. I am not "on the Greek side" or "on the anti-Greek side" because that isn't what Wikipedia is about.

I encourage you to contribute to WP in good faith. If I have some spare time, I may try my hand at adding well-balanced material about the "Imperium Graecorum" now that you've brought up the topic. But it would be better if you would make an honest effort yourself. --Macrakis (talk) 18:02, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Though I try to assume good faith, your last comment explicitly admitted to making an edit to make a point. It seems to me that you have enough experience on WP that this is fairly characterized as disingenous: "not candid or sincere, typically by pretending that one knows less about something than one really does." If you disagree, read the rest of my comment and reply to it rationally. --Macrakis (talk) 18:38, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I keep away from articles where I don't think I can make a useful difference, including most Macedonia-related articles where the temperature is much too high. --Macrakis (talk) 18:55, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect edit summary[edit]

Can you explain this edit? Your edit summary says "correcting text to reflect link". Yet, the source clearly says that some Christian families volunteered their sons for service. And the source does not appear to say that it was Albanian and Bosnian families that volunteered their sons. The sources at the end of a sentence are books, but can be viewed at Google Books here and here. On the face of it your edit summary appears false (even deceptive?). But I'm willing to assume good faith and wait for you to provide a reasonable explanation.VR talk 03:35, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You proposed a version, but before I could respond to it, you went ahead and restored some of the edits anyway. That does make it cooperation harder. Anyway, I will respond to your specific edits on the article's talk page. See you there.VR talk 19:12, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As you have likely seen I have reverted all of your edits that added articles to this category. In my view all of the entries failed WP:CATV and hence were arguable violations of the Wikipedia policy on writing about living people. Wham2001 (talk) 09:18, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 2021 Greece wildfires, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Evia. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
