Tomorrow's Launch[edit]

Hi, I was thinking of proposing tomorrow's test launch on ITN (if successful). So the update based on the test launch will have to be included. Just wanted to get a feeler if the update can be included as a new section. I'm also tweaking the "preparation for testing" section a bit. Chocolate Horlicks (talk) 11:34, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I've made some changes, but dont know for real if the test is tomorrow for sure. Some sources still say between 18 to 20. Chocolate Horlicks (talk) 11:45, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oribital ranges picture[edit]

Why does the range picture have a "dent" in the top-right corner of the range? Why isn't it a near-perfect circle? Lugnuts (talk) 07:16, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The missile can be launched from anywhere in Indian which goes further in the North-West then the North-East. 86.168.155.251 (talk) 14:47, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reactions[edit]

The US does not "refute" Chinese as a reaction, even the word "commend" is from the Indian news source, not the actual US spokeman. This rather sounds like a Indian PoV. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 15.219.153.77 (talk) 04:21, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reference[edit]

I have found this absolutely arrogant and hilarious statement made by China as a response to India's missile launch. Here it is. I'll start adding info in a new section now. ~*~AnkitBhatt~*~ 08:13, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • the article above is amusing of course but i dont think we need to elaborate china's reaction to such a large extent. -- ÐℬigXЯaɣ 10:02, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well I guess I got carried away by the sheer comic relief I got by seeing the Chinese state reactions; however, even generally, it has to be noted that China made veiled threats and a lot of stupid claims, so we should elaborate a bit. My 2 cents. ~*~AnkitBhatt~*~ 10:25, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh wow ... did China hire some PR folks from North Korea? Nice job on the reactions. I wouldn't go too much further in the article - you've got the reference added and readers can go there for the full reaction. Ravensfire (talk) 16:01, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think it is important for one to understand that Global Times is NOT an official mouth piece of the Chinese government, and its editorial views are just editorial views of a news paper, which is one of the most hawkish news papers in the country.

Could there be another sub-section called "International and domestic Reactions"?[edit]

I think it is pertinent to the article at this stage.

The Global Times (a Chinese daily apparently suffused with a glaring jingoism) article further said that while India's path for boosting its military strength has not met too many obstacles, the country is still poor (as if China is not) and lags behind in infrastructure construction (of course it does).

In Delhi, diplomatic sources in the Chinese embassy said,

As a side note, India needs to take more consideration of external threats. And it seems naive to think that India can continue to develop as a global economic power without also bringing its defence capabilities up to the standards of other nations in the region. From our POV it seems poverty should be their priority, but the UK, US etc all have poverty and still spend billions on effective defence measures.

Flooded[edit]

What kind of line is this ? "Pakistani websites and news agencies were reportedly "flooded" with the news of the successful launch; however, no official statement has been released yet" a wikipedia editor trying to add some of his own research,WP:NOR mind you this is on Mainpage. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 182.185.195.37 (talk) 11:33, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's sourced (see the reference at the end of the sentence) and therefore not OR in my understanding. Khazar2 (talk) 11:54, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's sourced, but it differs from the source a bit. "Flooded" is not shown in quotes, giving it an implication not reflected in the text. Also, the source doesn't say anything about an official statement. I have edited the text slightly to reflect the source. 204.65.34.168 (talk) 13:56, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indic scripts in lead[edit]

As per a discussion on the Noticeboard for Wikiproject India, we agreed NOT to have indic scripts in the lead of articles.I've removed it here. PLease DO NOT add it again. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 10:31, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Range of Agni V[edit]

Why were my rightly sourced changes reverted without explanation?
Agni V's range is more than 5,000 km. (source1, source2 and source3 & I could give more)

Kanwal Sibal was India's foreign secretary for almost 2 years and his comment adds a new dimension to the domestic reactions.(source4)

I thought the threshold for inclusion was verifiability as opposed to the truth. Hence, I'm wondering what is going on?

Oh, I also corrected some repeated links. "Mrt3366" (Talk?) 12:38, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is indeed verifiability. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 11:12, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The less the weight of the warhead, the further a missile can travel - that's why we specify a "range" for the missiles. While I concur that the range of Agni-V could be more than 5000+ km, no source gives an accurate figure that can be corroborated with other sources on the actual range of Agni-V. As such, I think we should just state the "official" figure of 5000 km (or 5000+ km).

"... whether you make a 5,000 kilometre class missile or a longer range missile, 99 per cent of the technology and building blocks of the two are common."[1]- DRDO Chief V K Saraswat

Mindtubes (talk) 08:54, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Accuracy or CEP[edit]

The "less than 10 m" or "pinpoint" accuracy as quoted by reliable sources like The Hindu are ridiculous. These figures need better/neutral sources, as most comparable, modern missiles have 100 m CEP. A few years back, the DRDO chief himself said that they were trying for a 100 m CEP for Agni V, but all sources after the two test are saying that the missile has single-digit accuracy. An image of the missile will be a good addition.[edit]

Someone try to get an image of the missile from any open sources. standardengineer (talk) 17:22, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Info box- "Place of origin"[edit]

I believe it's more appropriate to use "country of origin" or simply "country" in place of "place of origin" given in the info box. RAFiFan (talk) 03:35, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Template:Infobox weapon provides for the use of "place of origin" as it's a general template for weapons in general, and not just for missiles. –Aditya(talk) 06:54, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox image[edit]

I strongly feel that the infobox should have a canister-launch image of Agni-5, instead of the current “first flight” image. Reason: Agni-5 is, in fact, a canisterised missile in the truest sense. The current “first flight” image does not do justice to that. The infobox image should truly represent the current form of the missile.— Vaibhavafro💬 14:39, 21 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: Since nobody has opposed, I have went ahead and swapped two images. Still, if anyone objects, feel free to discuss!— Vaibhavafro💬 11:14, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
