Sacco and Vinzetti

Sacco and Vinzetti were framed! We ought to take that statement out of this encyclopedia, that they murdered guards.

We should defer to the Sacco and Vanzetti article on this. Upton Sinclair had some rather interesting things to say about this case that may cause you to change your mind. Rklawton 19:16, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

The guilt or innocence of Sacco and Vanzetti is not the point, certainly not on a "what-happened-on" reference page. The point is that the case (and by extension the original crime) are notable. I have written it in a form that I see as NPV; it was then removed, for some reason, and I put it back. My version reads: "*1920 – Two security guards are murdered during a robbery in South Braintree, Massachusetts. Anarchists Sacco and Vanzetti would be convicted of and executed for the crime, amid much controversy." Doprendek (talk) 19:39, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

Tax return deadline

Are there jurisdictions outside the USA/states/territories that use April 15 as a tax return deadline? - knoodelhed 21:50, 12 Mar 2004 (UTC)

If only one country uses this date for this purpose then it is not internationally notable and hence should not be included on this article. Jim Michael (talk) 23:01, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Mosul Massacre

Should this really be here? The term massacre is rather inflammatory and unlike cases like the Boston Massacre or My Lai Massacre, I can't find any historical precendent for referring to this event as such beyond some non-mainstream publications.

Discussion regarding POV for the name of the event should really take place in the event's article. However, this event has no article. As a result, it should not be included in this date article. The person who added this event here, should first create an article for the event, hash out the significance and POV issues there, and in due time, reference the article here. Do not include individual Titanic deaths

I suggest that individuals from the Titanic not be listed on the date page. There is a seperate article on the RMS_Titanic. If you agree I will remove the 3 names already added. Thanks, Hu Gadarn 23:35, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

I don't think it's necessary. The sinking is listed in the event and I believe everyone knows that a lot of people lost their lives. Dying on the Titanic doesn't make you notable per se unless you already were notable. I don't even see the need for the generic "Victims of the RMS Titanic" to be perfectly honest. In keeping with other date articles, the "Victims of..." notation is standard. And yes, only those who already have articles rate mention in this section. Whether or not someone rates an article is a matter for WP:BIO, and I doubt this event would be sufficient alone to gain someone appropriate notability. Rklawton 00:54, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Robert Sibbald birth date listed twice

The same Robert Sibbald article is listed twice in the Births section for this day, April 15, under both 1641 and 1651. It appears that 1641 is correct, but I don't have time to check into it now, so I won't alter anything. I'll look again soon, but if someone else has a chance to fix it now, thank you in advance. Bombing of Mortsel

I removed

*1943 – An Allied bomber attack misses the Minerva automobile factory and hits the Belgian town of Mortsel instead, killing 936 civilians.

This happened on April 5th 1943. the memorial anniversary was extensively covered in the news in Belgium. Calonectris (talk) 13:44, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

I think the argument will be made that the fact that this 'minor' terrorist event occurred at an event that has worldwide notoriety, it should be included. A counter argument could be made that the fact that it is included shows systemic bias. Take your pick. Notice, I'm not making either argument. My experience is that it is pointless to argue the topic so close to the occurrence. Let the masses have their event (as long as the edits aren't disruptive) and address the merits at a later time when the emotion of the event has subsided. -- Mufka ^{(u) (t) (c)} 23:12, 16 April 2013 (UTC)

Removal of entries

In accordance with the guidelines, I've started weeding the Births and Deaths sections by removing entries for celebrities with 0-4 articles in other languages. Where possible, these will be transferred to the relevant Year in Topic articles. As well as making the lists more manageable, this will help with the globalization effort.Deb (talk) 15:28, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

Wilhelm Busch not born on April 15th

According to the Wilhelm Busch page Wilhelm Busch#cite ref-Birth date 3-0 Busch was born on April 14th

Busch's birth date was long thought to be 15 April 1832, and this is the date given in many biographies. The error was first noted by historian Carol Gateway in 2000, by checking the original birth certificate.

Ida Freund

Ida Freund is listed in the Births section (1863), but the main article gives her date of birth as 5 April, not the 15th. The citation on this list page is unavailable due to a broken link and the one on the main article's page is paywalled, so I can't check which date is correct. @JezGrove: I'm not sure which one to go with. I've checked the ODNB ref on the main article and that says it's the 15th and when the exact dob was first added to the lead section it was the 15th but with a different source [1] so it's been changed to the 5th at a later date. The ref it was added with is broken and I couldn't find a working version on web archive which mentions her date of birth. I did find this book which says it's the 15th but this link to a different page of the book says it's the 5th, not sure if it's the same edition. There's a working link to the ref used in this article here and that has the 5th as does [2]. Suonii180 (talk) 13:19, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
