Cleanup / neutral point of view[edit]

Hello, I'm the artists manager and as there is a conflict in interest I would appreciate it very much, if someone (you?) can cleanup the article to comply with Wikipedia's content policies, particularly neutral point of view. Thank you! --JanMatthiesMM (talk) 22:52, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Could you be more specific? I really don't see anything that is in poor taste (not NPOV)? If you give me more information I'll see what I can do to help. Though, the article could use more inline refs in the first part. -- Crazysane (T/C\D) 13:50, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ah. I misunderstood you, I was thinking you were complaining about bad information. You are looking for a rewrite for a more neutral article - that you wrote. I gotcha. I'm not wonderful at copy editing subjects I have no knowledge for, so I'm going to leave this to someone else. Good Luck! -- Crazysane (T/C\D) 13:54, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jan M, it would help if you could suggest what sort of improvements you would like to see. As an expert reviewer, your comments and suggestions would be welcome. (talk) 16:20, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Crazysane and Fæ and Smartse: Thank you for taking care of the article. I think the article is fine as is but it has the COI flag on it. Please read the discussion about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard#Ayako_Shirasaki_-_cleanup_and_neutral_point_of_view_needed_to_get_rid_of_COI_warning --JanMatthiesMM (talk) 22:25, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have two questions about the latest changes (hopefully that is ok to ask here and complies with the rules): The article about Bill Gates starts with: "William Henry "Bill" Gates III, KBE[2] (born October 28, 1955)[3] is an American business magnate, philanthropist, author and chairman[4] of Microsoft, the software company he founded with Paul Allen." What is the difference in "and founded her own music school for Brooklyn and Manhattan in 2010, the Sakura Music School." This doesn't mean that I think this needs to be in the article or not. I would only like to understand. The second question is that I understand that a festival which I organize does not have a lot of credibility for my own artist, but for a different artist it would have? How could this be more neutral: "After her parental leave she continued her career with a performance at the 1st International Jazz Solo Piano Festival 2009 in Germany"? In addition the Festival was not done all by myself, it was in cooperation with Germanys largest jazz concert booking company, the Karsten Jahnke Konzert Direktion, Germany largest media sales house "Dussman" and last but not least Steinway & Sons Sales houses in Hamburg, Berlin and Munich. Problem they deleted the info on their websites as it is outdated news. http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/news.php?id=31875 To me the festival was mentioned in an unbiased point of view, and it is a notable performance in Ayako's career. Thanks for sharing some light on this, and if I'm not allowed to talk about it here as I have COI, please let me know and I delete this message. BTW we are currently releasing a new CD on Sept. 7 but out of fear it is an advert I only put it in the discography list instead of writing a sentence about it --JanMatthiesMM (talk) 22:25, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your comments. I can assure you that it is within the COI guidance for you to comment here and make suggestions for changes, so long as your comments are intended to improve the article. Your comments will be replied to in a day or two (depending on free time from interested editors). (talk) 22:34, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for not replying sooner, I hadn't added the page to my watchlist. As I've said at the conflict of interest noticeboard the life and career section needs to be sourced, per our policy on the biographies on living people. Obviously, as her publicist you know that this is correct, but there is no way for me to able to check this and it is important that all information on here (particularly about living people) is verifiable so that readers can check. If it's not been written about in independent sources then it shouldn't be included. I removed the reference to the festival that you organised because it's not suitable to include it in the awards section if you are the one awarding it. Generally speaking, it's best only to include awards that have been mentioned independently of the awarding organisation (like the BBC reporting on the Oscars) rather than using first party sources. Looking at this page at allaboutjazz (and noting that the article you linked is written by All About Jazz Publicity, I'm guessing that this is a regurgitated press release and is therefore not a reliable source. Likewise I don't think her biography at allaboutjazz is reliable since at the bottom it states "All material copyright © All About Jazz and/or contributing writer/visual artist" and so I can't be sure it has been written by someone independent of her. Regarding the music school, as it was unsourced, regardless of whether it is neutral or not, it can be removed. Clearly there is a difference between this and Bill Gate's article. I'll post at a couple of wikiprojects related to her to see if anyone else can give another opinion on this. Personally, I'm still not satisfied that she is sufficiently notable (or at least there aren't any sources to demonstrate this). Smartse (talk) 10:59, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again Smartse and your response time is perfectly time. I'm happy that you are handling this. Of course the article of Bill Gate's was just a reference to compare neutrality. Now I have the reference issue as there is no link available that gives proof of the existence of the music school. I'll post it here if one comes available in the future. Thanks for letting me know how proper reference is done, that way I know what to look for. The awards section is called "Awards and highlights" maybe that needs to be changed as the festival was clearly a highlight, it is most pianists dream to perform at an event in friendly cooperation with Steinway & Sons. Would this here work for a neutral 3rd Party reference? http://www.ejazznews.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=11079&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0 or this one: http://jazzsolopianofestival.com/de/?cat=6 it is the last article from the German Jazz Magazine Jazzthetik, go all the way down. The writer was present at the festival and he mentions all 3 Steinway, Karsten Jahnke Konzert Direktion and Dussman in his article. I believe I will need to do a translation, correct? Or does someone else need to translate it in case I translate in a biased way? BTW the performance at the festival was a major turning point of her career as it marked the return to the concert stages after having 2 babies. So it belongs to her life if it can't be mentioned as a highlight, it can be mentioned in Life and career? About her notability (taken from the COI commnet board: F. Finally she meets this criteria of requirements for inclusion for musicians: Has been the subject of a half-hour or longer broadcast across a national radio or TV network. She has been featured in Marian McPartlands 1 hour long Radio show "Piano Jazz" which is NPR and syndicated to a whole bunch of other stations http://www.npr.org/programs/pianojazz/previousguests/fall2006/shirasaki.html Here are links that show she was on: http://www.wsvh.org/feat06_11.htm / http://articles.sfgate.com/2006-11-29/entertainment/17320125_1_kpfa-piano-jazz-american-indians / In addition C. Next criteria she meets is Has won or placed in a major music competition. Finalist in the Mary Lou Williams Women In Jazz Piano Competition 2005 and 2006; Washington, D.C., USA [4] - Finalist in the Great American Jazz Piano Competition 2004, 2005 and 2006; Jacksonville, Fl., USA [5] references are from her article on Wikipedia with links to reliable websites. So she at least meets 2 criterias of the requirements for inclusions for musicians. --JanMatthiesMM (talk) 17:23, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Here is a better reference for her appearance at the Jazz Journalists Association Awards Gala 2010: http://rjonjazz.blogspot.com/2010/06/jazz-journalists-association-presents.html --JanMatthiesMM (talk) 17:23, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

┌─────────────────────────────────┘
For what it's worth, I think an appearance on McPartland's "Piano Jazz" indicates notability. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 19:32, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for having a look Gyrofrog. Jan - it's probably easiest if you dive in and edit the page regardless of your COI. The links you've given above appear to be independent and reliable so use those to rewrite the article and then I can clean it up as necessary and hopefully be able to remove the COI tag. (That is unless Gyrofrog would like to do it instead). Smartse (talk) 19:36, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh sorry, all the links except the last one - blogs can't be used as references. Smartse (talk) 19:37, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Gyrofrog, thanks for jumping in. - Smartse, I deleted everything where I think I don't have a reliable source and as websites that simply show information seem not to be allowed there is not as much info as before. Thanks for letting me dive in and edit. Hopefully I was not too bold. --JanMatthiesMM (talk) 00:07, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed the COI template as it now seems to be outdated (the issue is in the process of getting handled?). If the removal is incorrect, please place it again with specific requests. Shearonink (talk) 15:38, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
