Nelson got his start in Bill McClathey's. Rosser, from Roseland Matched his son Bill, a comer in the glove game, against Bat. The young Rosser had 8 or 10 members of his family, or as many as could squeeze into his corner in the ring. "Four to $40 on a knockout," they were yelling.

Bat gave 'em the k.o. two punches, a right and a left, and the fight was over, quickest in the history of the "athletic exhibitions" at the McLatchey pavilion and still a world's record. (Tribune Golden Anniversary Edition - 1940)
