GA review (see here for criteria)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
    Just some assorted prose notes:
  • I know WP:MLB reached a consensus on this, but I can't remember. Did we agree not to list intermediate trade teams in the infobox of a player if he never appeared for them (like the Angels here)? Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Consensus was not to have them in the box, so we're good here. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 17:43, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Over his career in the majors, " in the lead, do you need that first comma? Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Stein played numerous fielding positions" Link baseball positions? Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Given that he set a pinch hit record and was called one of the best pinch hitters in the league by AP I would mention his time as a pinch hitter after discussing his fielding positions. Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • "As a player, Stein was listed at 5 feet 10 inches (178 cm), and weighed 170 pounds (77 kg)." Uncited and doesn't appear in the article body as far as I see (so odd for the lead) Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Done through here. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 17:45, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • For the whole first and third paragraphs of the Cardinals section could you repeat-cite his minor league B-Ref page a couple times to cover the stat sentences? Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • "He made his season debut on April 6, going hitless in one at-bat" Maybe note that he entered as a pinch hitter since you just mentioned that that was his role (according to one paper). Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ref 10 has a spelling error (Cardinas) and is a dead link! Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Stein would also play back-up for second baseman" Just say "Stein also played"? Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Stein would play his final season with the Chicago White Sox" Again, just "Stein played"? Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • "In August, it was noted by the United Press International" Passive voice, just "UPI noted" Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • "In June, Stein commented on how he liked playing everyday at the same position, which he was doing with the Mariners at third base." Awkward sentence, why not just "In June, Stein commented on how he liked starting everyday at third base for the Mariners"? Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Stein had another two-home run performance, making it his second of the season." Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • "In May, Stein set an American League record after he recorded seven consecutive pinch hits." Reads oddly, maybe "In May, Stein set an American League record by recording seven consecutive pinch hits."? Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • "After the season, Stein spoke out against a transaction that the Rangers made, which traded Jim Sundberg to the Milwaukee Brewers, calling him a "mainstay of the organization"." Change that to "trading"? Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Possibly include Stein's salary data from his B-Ref page? It's limited, but at least I think it'd be worth noting he made $250k in that last injury-broken year. Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • "fired Butch Hobson, who was the manager of the" Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • One DAB link to Grand slam. Staxringold talkcontribs 15:55, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  1. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
  2. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
  3. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  4. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  5. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
I'm not in love with the source information for the lead image. I have a hard time believing the newspaper doesn't claim copyright over it's images, but as it's offline I have to AGF. Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  6. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
Very good, just some prose clean-up really necessary. Staxringold talkcontribs 15:49, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done except for the salary note (going to double check that those figures are correct. They probably are but since that's a new development for B-R I want to make sure) and the minor league referencing. Those seem to fall under the two general references in that section. If you disagree and still think they should be added I'll go ahead and do that. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 17:35, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • I would definitely use the Minor League source at least once in that paragraph. The salary data is a random side bit (since data isn't comprehensive that far back) so I leave that to you. Staxringold talkcontribs 17:38, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Went and added in the minors refs and the salary for '85. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 22:50, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deceased?[edit]

This site says he has passed away (names him as Randy Stein); can anyone else source this claim? http://www.thedeadballera.com/passings.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.186.176.7 (talk) 00:37, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
