My sources seem to make it clear that this is unknown. On page 37 of Davison Reynolds: "Apparently the DeBecks had divorced; they remarried in 1921, but the second marriage also did not last." —Curly Turkey (gobble) 23:35, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

1. "while working on a strip called Finn an' Haddie for the Adams Newspaper Service on the side. " - he moved there and at the same time draw the comic? I recommend you to start a new sentence and begin with eg "Around this time...".

I seem to remember reading somewhere that it was done out of spite for DeBeck's widow, whom they found too controlling in the award selections. None of the sources I've listed back this up, however.
