Dates

[edit]

There seems to be uncertainty about DeBeck's birth and death date. different sources have him born on April 15 or 16, and dying on November 11 or 23. Nov. 23 is from an online contemporary Time Magazine but most other sources favour the 11th. Eclecticology 04:42, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
  1. a (prose): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
  1. Link Irish, Welsh

  1. "he gave it up after landed a cartooning job with the weekly paper Show World in 1910. " - after landing
Done. —Curly Turkey (gobble) 11:26, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  1. "They would later divorce, remarry in 1921, and eventually divorce again.[4]" - do you know why?
The sources I have don't make it clear. —Curly Turkey (gobble) 11:26, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
My sources seem to make it clear that this is unknown. On page 37 of Davison Reynolds: "Apparently the DeBecks had divorced; they remarried in 1921, but the second marriage also did not last." —Curly Turkey (gobble) 23:35, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  1. "while working on a strip called Finn an' Haddie for the Adams Newspaper Service on the side. " - he moved there and at the same time draw the comic? I recommend you to start a new sentence and begin with eg "Around this time...".
Done. —Curly Turkey (gobble) 11:26, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  1. "He had been as tall as his wife early on, but became quite short by the early 1920s.[1]" - not sure what this means. Looks to me like a metaphor
Done. I think it's clearer now. —Curly Turkey (gobble) 11:26, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Link bridge
Done. —Curly Turkey (gobble) 11:26, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  1. "DeBeck spent time on golf courses" - remove golf. Also did he play with P. Hal Sims bridge or golf?
Done. The sources I have only talk about them playing golf together, though it would seem unlikely they didn't play bridge together. —Curly Turkey (gobble) 23:31, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  1. "the DeBeck Award was renamed the Reuben Award" - do you know why?
I seem to remember reading somewhere that it was done out of spite for DeBeck's widow, whom they found too controlling in the award selections. None of the sources I've listed back this up, however. It could've been an unfounded rumour on some blog or something. Anyways, the sources I have don't explain it. —Curly Turkey (gobble) 23:31, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  1. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
  1. a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
  1. Ref 13, 14, 18, 19 do not point to any citation
Done. —Curly Turkey (gobble) 11:19, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  1. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
  2. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  3. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  4. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  5. Overall: Looks quite good.--Kürbis () 08:41, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
