GA nomination

[edit]

I am failing this GA nominations for the following reasons:

1a) This page needs a thorough copyedit; there are many grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, etc. Also, please turn your list into prose in the "Design" section.
Only found one typo and two spellings so far. Converted list. Copyedit will be ongoing. TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio) 20:03, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
1b) It needs to comply a bit more with the WP:MOS on layout (e.g. headings, infobox, integrating of trivia into other sections). I would also suggest instead of having a photo gallery that you move the most interesting photos to relevant sections of the article.
Moved photos. Not sure what infobox to use. TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio) 20:03, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
3a) The article needs to discuss the holdings the library in more depth and what services it offers its patrons. How many books does it have? What kinds of programs do they offer? What are there computer facilities like? Much is missing here. The article focuses on the building to the near exclusion of its function as a library. Awadewit 00:34, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done However, no public information is available on branch holdings at this time. TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio) 19:35, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just a quick note - trivia sections are big no no in encyclopedic articles, so I guess this will have to go before the article is promoted (the other criteria notwithstanding, I didn't review it, just noticed that when passing by). My suggestion would be to move the content on other buildings named after Blackstone to his article, as it is more relevant to him than to the library, and the other similarly named libraries to "see also" or a disambig hatnote. OTOH, "Blackstone" in "see also" seems a bit out of place, it is a disambig page containing links to many totally irrelevant articles. PrinceGloria 05:29, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA on hold

[edit]

I have reviewed this article according to the GA criteria and have decided to put this article on hold until the following issues are addressed.

  1. As mentioned above, an infobox would help improve the article. I also couldn't find a library infobox, but perhaps you can use one of the infoboxes found at other passed GAs such as St. La Salle Hall or Borobudur. If you use the infobox, then the image of the front of the building would probably be best for the main image.  Done TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 00:39, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. "The T. B. Blackstone Memorial Library is a Concord Granite building named after Timothy Blackstone that is a part of the Chicago Public Library System. Its two year construction started in 1902 and it was dedicated on January 8, 1904." Rewrite to "T. B. Blackstone Memorial Library is a building that is part of the Chicago Public Library System and is named after Timothy Blackstone. The Concord Granite building's two-year construction started in 1902 and it was dedicated on January 8, 1904." or something to that effect. If you don't want to change both sentences then just modify the first one because "that is a part" doesn't flow very well with the prior information.  Done TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 16:53, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. "It marks the beginning of the Chicago Branch Library System as the first dedicated branch in the system." What is It? Also remove some of the other cases of It used as the beginning of the next few sentences, as this begins to sound repetitive.  Done TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 17:04, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  4. "It is also the only branch of the 79 branch Chicago Public Library branch system that was privately funded." Add hyphen between 79 and branch.  Done TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 16:53, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  5. "The building is located at 4904 South Lake Park Avenue in Chicago's Kenwood community area. The building serves the Hyde Park, Kenwood, and Oakland community areas." Combine these two sentences.  Done TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 16:56, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  6. "The branch celebrated its 100th Anniversary of service in 2004.[3]" I don't think that Anniversary needs to be capitalized.  Done TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 16:56, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  7. "The library was dedicated to the memory of Timothy Beach Blackstone" Add a wikilink for Timothy Blackstone, as some people may skip over the intro.  Done TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 23:45, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  8. "It is now known as the Chicago Public Library - Blackstone Branch and commonly referred to as Blackstone Library, or Blackstone Branch." Make this the second sentence.  Done TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 23:45, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  9. "It is the first branch library in the Chicago Public Library System." Add inline citation for this.  Done
  10. "At least three renovations have occurred." Elaborate on this, as it is the intro sentence to the paragraph. "From a major restorative renovation occurred." This sounds just like the intro sentence, which should also be reworded.  Done
  11. "There was also a 2004 renovation for the centennial." What kind of renovation?
    1. Unable to find further detail. TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 01:11, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  12. Move the first paragraph in the "Design" section before the "It is 13,794 square feet." sentence and break up the new paragraph into two. Also, the square feet sentence should be elaborated on or combined with another sentence (probably the one right after it).
    1. Not sure what you mean, but I tried to follow your instructions. TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 00:00, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  13. Rename the trivia section.  Done TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 23:48, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  14. If possible is there an estimate of the amount of books available in the library? The library's home page may have it.
    Resolved
     – This is a branch and no such stats are available for any of the 79 branches of the CPL. TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 23:48, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  15. Also address the points raised by PrinceGloria above.  Done TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 23:50, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please address the above issues within seven days and I'll pass the article. If you have any questions or when you are done, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Nehrams2020 06:57, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
