98ROCK. hired Bubba after it's dj's made fun of him.

[edit]

I used to listen to 98ROCK. all the time before they hired "Tubba the Butt Sponge" as they used to frequently refer to him on the air. There was a whole session of one of the dj's making fun of Bubba trying to get a job at 98ROCK. We were assured time and time again that they would never hire him. Next thing I know their morning show hosts get moved around to different time slots and Bubba is the new morning dj. Worst thing that could've happened to them. I stopped listening at that time and didn't start listening again until he was gone. Not that the guy they have doing the morning show now is much better. He's like a slightly toned-down Bubba clone. And it's ironic to me that Bubba had to go to Howard Stern for a job after telling everyone on his morning show that he could take Stern down if he wanted to. I expect this comment will be deleted, but I have not made any of this information up and anyone who lives in the Tampa Bay area and used to listen to 98ROCK. will know that I am telling the truth. ~Spiralnyne, September 27, 2007

We won't delete your commment. Its fair discussion. WP is not bias and censorship of the discussion page is a lot more lax than censoring the main article. WP is made up of open-minded hard working volunteers and we assume good faith. ~Neurodiversity9, Feb 24, 2008

This man is telling the truth when it comes to the old DJ's of 98 Rock ragging on him on-air. I would not know about the Howard Stern idea though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.76.102.42 (talk) 14:19, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Z100 days in NYC

[edit]

Why haven't the Stern crew ever made fun of Bubba for his days on Z100 in NYC? I had a tape of the Z Morning Zoo's greatest hits in 1989-1990 that featured some awful crap with their correspondent "Bubba the Love Sponge from Massapequa" (Go bubba, go bubba, go bubba, go! - that was the theme song). Its highly doubtful that was the same Bubba. There were appearently Dozens of Bubba The Love Sponges across the nation before he trademarked it and made it his name. There are Bubbas and Howards all across the country attempting to catch the same lightning in a bottle sucess that these two iconic figures have.71.126.119.160 19:28, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    • Pay closer5 attention, Howard and Crew have had their fun with Bubba's earlier work, predominantly the great single "rap" career Buba had with "40's & Blunts".The New York Crew often sing praise of the "thrillbilly crew in Tampa"

Howard has repetedly supported Buba and his show, and durring the inital renewal of the shows contract, it was Howard Stern that stepped in at the 11th hour to make it possible to keep Bubba on Sirius (turned Sirius-XM). Bubba has consistantly carried strong numbers in the Sirius/XM family, second ONLY to Howard Stern himself(that is good company to be in) With any luck, in 13 months Sirius/XM will aante up and give Bubba abd his crew their fair share, have him take over a Satellite exclusive morning show while Hoiward takes "semi-retirment" by doing 3 mid or afternoon drive shows. Howard repetedly states he is gone in 13 months, then backs up and states that he is willing to talk, and see where, what and how he can contribute, point, Howard Stern is Iconic , it would be a travesty NOT having him on the radio. Having Bubba the Lovesponge in his place could not be a better choice should Howard decide to truely step away from his famous megaphone and leave mamalookaboboo behind. Bubba is a VITAL part of the future of The Empire Howard has built on Sirius with his channels Howard 100 & 101. Bubba, should Howard step down, will be the centerpiece of "reality, in your face tell it as it is talk radio". Suggested replacement to fill the empty space should Bubba move andHoward step down, Kevin Matthews, formerly of Chicago's midday show on 101 the loop(beforether station format went ESPN)Kevin is cut from the same fabric as the characters on Howards team, creative, fun, intrestingand incredible interviewer. Bubba has acknowledged his "radio wars" and the things he said toward Howard, they worked past that to become the strongest combinationon radio. Stay tuned to Sirius/XM in the next 12-18 months to see this all traspire. <assigned bt T. Etch>

Other controversies

[edit]

There was a big controversy with adult performers Brooke Skye and Melissa Midwest when they were on his show, where Brooke Skye claimed she had been coerced into inserting a phallic device and I think is now suing. Shouldn't this be added? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bugg1979 (talkcontribs)

She appeared on the show with Ms. Midwest. While on the show, Ms.Skye's appearance was volentary and Ms. Skye in entertaining and providing show content, did only what SHE felt comfortable doing at the time, NEVER forced or restrained against her will.Face it, nobody in the room forced anything into her, she did what she decided to do.

Please change the spelling of Matt Loyd's name

[edit]

It is incorrectly listed as Matt Lloyd.

Oddly nicknamed "Spice-Boy", joined the show as soon as his terrestrial contract was up. He has been a long time member of the BTLS family. Until his recent engagement, Spice was the shows Manwhore. Whereas Bubba and the boys lived through his life and stories. 75 second delay

[edit]

The ill informed information people spew out is incredible these days. Do your Research. Pat Seward

Isn't it possible....just MAYBE, that there is a longer delay between live radio and what you hear on the radio comes from the factthat the signal is traveling into space to a SATELLITE and back? quit with the stopwatch and find a hoby. perhapse there is a stray Chimp to service you! Idiot

Bubbathelovesponge.net

[edit]

I noticed that there is a lot of back and forth on the inclusion of this external link - I looked into it after seeing a false notice of account suspension while patrolling recent changes with Huggle. It appears that this is a site that requires paid registration to view forum content (although there is some free content as well), so on the face of it should not be included under WP:EL#6 and WP:EL#11. Looking at the archives for this page it appears that this has been a contentious issue for a number of years. Instead of the constant reverting, I would like to hear the reasons for or against the inclusion of the link, in order so we can reach a permanent consensus. SeaphotoTalk 20:32, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In the archived discussion page, in the discussion under fan site edit warring, you can see the previous discussion about removing btls.net from the external links. Bubba was looking to sue them for a period of time, and had also removed them from his monthly discussion with fans (It was called State Of The Bubba, and they were replaced by fans from SternFanNetwork). The BTLS.net people could never point to any reason they were the official site, other then references on btls.net. BTLS.com makes no mention whatsoever of an "Official Fan Site". A search of BTLS.com via google shows the only mention of btls.net coming on the old forum, and the cached results mostly mention that Bubba wants it to go away, here's one such example http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:f0TXCmE6OoYJ:www.btls.com/forum/viewtopic.php%3Fp%3D119509%26sid%3D07c9b9ba138af55e89f81b07a5caef15+btls.net+OR+bubbathelovesponge.net+site:btls.com&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us I'm not sure what more proof would be needed. When this originally came up it was decided that BTLS.net was not an official site and only in the last few months have the same exact IPs started adding it to the page again.68.38.213.18 (talk) 19:27, 5 June 2010 (UTC) That thread shows nothing at all only a fan stating hearsay. You can hear Bubba & Brent say it when you go to the home page of .net - Case Closed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.252.197.148 (talk) 16:38, 15 June 2010 (UTC) And why dont you google Bubba the Love Sponge ? Why are you googling btls.com ? Doesnt make any sense. Again this is a sternfannetwork member who vandalizes wikipedia by removing the link and who has been doing this all along.[reply]

Nope, sorry I am not a member of any related network and have no interest in this subject other than to make sure that the articles meet WP guidelines, especially when it comes to external links. I came to this article while monitoring recent changes, and saw a warning placed on a talk page saying that a user would be banned for removing this link. That caught my attention, and I looked into it. So far, I see nothing that justifies the inclusion of this link - the only reasons given to leave it in are not within the guidelines set by WP:EL. Simply stating it is vandalism doesn't make it so, particularly if you are not willing or able to discuss that matter further. SeaphotoTalk 17:10, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is vandalism when people remove valid links. Fan sites are allowed on Wikipedia. Just check Howard Stern on Wikipedia. A fan site is allowed on Howard Stern. In conclusion a fan site should be allowed for Bubba also.

First off, I googled BTLS.Com because if btls.net was an official fan site, then why wouldn't it be mentioned anywhere on btls.com? I'm also not a sternfannetwork member. Also I listened to the audio on bubbathelovesponge.net, neither Bubba or Brent say "The official fan site" all they say is that btls.net is the fan forum and fan site. Also, that ignores that Bubba removed btls.net from the state of the bubba and has almost never mentioned them in the last two years. There's no outside sources saying btls.net is the "official fan site" 68.38.213.18 (talk) 01:13, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is no more State of the Bubba so your reply is meaningless. There are no outside sources saying btls.net is not the official fan site. You are a Stern Fan Network member. All of your posts indicate that.

When there was a State Of The Bubba, btls.net had been removed from it. Actually the audio at btls.net of Bubba and Brent speaking just says that btls.net is a fan form and fan site. It says nothing about them being an "official site". There are also no fan sites on Howard Stern or The Howard Stern Show. Only Mark's Friggin which has a daily rundown of the show and has been mentioned on the show multiple times. Also, you still have no proof that btls.net is an "Official Fan Site" other then audio on your own page, you need outside sources to prove it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.38.213.18 (talk) 14:12, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There needs to be positive proof of an official connection, not the absence of a negative; that is weak logic. I took a look at the site in question, and it requires registration and payment to view the majority of the content. That in itself is a reason to avoid posting the link, as per W:ELREG - Wikipedia is not here to generate revenue for a website. SeaphotoTalk 14:39, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The majority of the content on bubbathelovesponge.net is free and does not require any form of payment. 95% of the site is free, if you looked at the site you would know that. Why are you posting false information ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.213.251.31 (talk) 15:18, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I did look at the site prior to commenting. The majority of the free content is either news feed supplied by other sources, videos that have not been updated in years, photos from 2006, links to other sites, a map that details the location of members, ads and that sort of thing. The first link on the tabs is to the paid portion of the site. I haven't explored that - since I don't want to pay any money - put unless that forum is very small it is hard to see how 95% of the site is free. Are you affiliated with the site? Perhaps you can give a more detailed breakdown. I know it seems like there are a lot of hoops to jump through, but WP:EL is very specific about what we can and cannot include here. For example, even my own website about a hobby of mine doesn't pass the test. It can be frustrating, I know, but we are trying to build an encyclopedia here and the rules and guidelines are there to make - and keep - Wikipedia a credible resource. I hope you understand and accept that. SeaphotoTalk 17:14, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sternfannetwork Vandalism

[edit]

So the vandalism on this subject continues. They continue to vandalize wikipedia and get away with it. No one cared when Bubba had his own forum but now that it is gone, the vandalism has started up again. There is no warring issues. Stern Fan Network is just that a Howard Stern Fan Site. Bubbathelovesponge.net is the fan forum for Bubba the Love Sponge.

Neutrality must be second to accuracy

[edit]

The previous version by "LouPickney" was a little too "Pro-Bubba" and did not conform to Wikipedia's neutrality guidelines. The current version attempts to be more neutral and also introduce elements of "Bubba's" life that were glossed over in prior versions, including Clem's arrest on charges of animal cruelty and his failed nightclub "Planet Bubba."

The animal cruelty charges against Bubba were pretty much trumped up. If you eat meat, you have to face the fact that animals die so that the meat can be harvested. Those pretty steaks and chops at the grocery don't just appear. They represent dead animals.

Personally, I'm willing to kill my own chicken. But some people want the process to be hidden away - to be as behind closed doors as sex is supposed to be. They don't want to be reminded that pork==dead pig. The reality is that Bubba was not arrested for animal cruelty, he was arreated for making the process public.

Of course, that was explained to the jury. A jury member later interviewed said that the only reason that they took 52 minutyes to find everyone innocent is because they got a free lunch by delaying that long. Had they simply voted immediately and returned, they would have been dismissed without a meal.

One of the most aggregous behaviors that a public official can indulge in is to prosecute an unpopular public personage simply as a means of curbing their legal behavior. That is exactly what happened here. The prosecutor was offended. With no real evidence, they brought the accused to trial - and tried to get them to plead to a lesser offense.

Luckily, the hunters and officials were able to pay for a vigorous defense and did not cop a plea.

IMHO, not mentioning this is violates neutrality. I would edit the article myself, but I keep on coming up with prejudicial terms, like "trumped up". Questionable charges at best? Someone care to help with a rewording? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.0.51.23 (talk) 17:20, 29 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bubba the Love Sponge Sued Over Sex Segment

[edit]

An internet porn model, Hope Miller (her porn star name is Brooke Skye) is suing Bubba the Love Sponge for $150,000 over a sex segment performed on his SIRIUS Satellite Radio show back in June.

The suit alleges that Miller was forced to perform a sex act with another porn star using a sex toy - one that she claims was too big. The suit also claims that Miller wasn't informed about the stunt ahead of time, and despite her objections, Bubba berated her into continuing.

According to Brooke Skye that happened in 2006 (unless it's happened again, but that would seem unlikely). Still could go in the article as there are several refs in that article also. --jjron (talk) 16:25, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nedley Mandingo III

[edit]

I am seeing a lot of back and forth on this section. While I don't seem the harm in having a section for a major character in the show, as it stands it is entirely original research, and speculative at that. Some verifiable sources need to be found to document the assertions, or the section should be removed until such time as references can be found. SeaphotoTalk 01:02, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request from 216.237.21.179, 5 January 2011

[edit]

{{edit semi-protected}} The current opening paragraph uses the past tense, implying he is either dead or no longer a syndicated radio host. He however is alive and still has his syndicated talk host. I propose changing the word "was" to "is".

216.237.21.179 (talk) 16:32, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, I have changed that. If he lost all his outlets, the line should read Bubba the Love Sponge is a former radio host. Was implies that he is no longer living. SeaphotoTalk 18:23, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done I added all of those except the link to Milwaukee, since most of the other cities in the article are not linked (and I think they shouldn't be), though if someone else disagrees, go ahead. I'm a bit uncomfortable with the Grand Rapids Press citations, since I have not seen and verified them, and, in general, a cite to a newspaper should, at a minimum, have the title of the article. If anyone else wants to remove them along with all of the info about his firing that this presumably backs up, I have no problem with that. Qwyrxian (talk) 01:03, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Does this article know what it's about?

[edit]

The taxobox in this article is about his radio show, while the article is about the man. Further certain sections of the article are about parts of the radio show peripheral at best to this individual (for example Bubba_the_Love_Sponge#Nedley_Mandingo_III). Yet most of the article is clearly about the person/presenter Todd/Bubba himself. I note that Bubba the Love Sponge Show also redirects here, helping to enhance this jumble. This is all confusing.

Someone with an interest and knowledge about this should convert this article to be about the person, and either kill the non-relevant stuff about other parts of his radio show, or spin it off into the the radio show article already existing as the redirect. --jjron (talk) 16:05, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Propose merge of Bubba the Love Sponge Show into Bubba the Love Sponge. Most of the content overlaps already. John Nagle (talk) 20:09, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

John Nagle, I agree. There's not much here--some chit-chat and a really not so notable incident. I mean, that stupid sex tape, that's not enough reason for notability. If he's notable at all it's because of the radio show. Neutralhomer, I'm pinging you too because I'm interested in your opinion and this discussion has been a monologue, so far. Drmies (talk) 22:35, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Drmies, yeah, the sex tape isn't enough for notability alone. It's definitely a section for the page, because of the court case surrounding it, but it's not enough for notability. His career as a shock-jock in Florida, however, is. Love him or hate him, he has a following and his generated a TON of press for his various stunts and for on-and-off-the-air wars with other DJs and station personnel.
That said, I believe the two articles are seperate. There is BLTS the person and there is BLTS the show. There are parts that are related to one subject that would be out of place on the other subject's article. So, I think a merge isn't necessary. If Wikipedia can have both a Howard Stern and The Howard Stern Show articles, then we can have both here. - NeutralhomerTalk22:50, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't see much press in the article. It seems to me that any notability, real notability by our standards, comes from his show, and thus a merge is appropriate. After all, he's clearly no Howard Stern. Drmies (talk) 01:19, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

FCC fines

[edit]

@LowSelfEstidle: Your [edit] added this sentence: In October 1998, Citicasters, the owner of WXTB, was fined $23,000 for various broadcasts, including one from May 1997 that included talk about one of the crew describing their enema experience, and another for a song parody about the Hillary Clinton and Monica Lewinsky scandal, and cited two sources. One of them (Floridian) is paywalled, so I can't read it. The second one (WaPo) lists 5 fines between 1997 and 2004; none of the descriptions mention the song parody. I've removed that part of the sentence as unsourced and probably a BLP violation. (Would have been more believable if it had said "Bill.")
